‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 2nd February 2011

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 2nd February 2011

Right, I’m sure you’ve already had quite enough of me blathering on this week, so it’s a mercifully short one from me today.

I promised you a great February and by golly are we going to deliver. Highlights this week include the kick off of the Mega minis Sale where you can grab 20 top-shelf minis for 99p/€1.19 each; X-Men Arcade (finally!), which allows up to 6 players to kick some backside in a retro, side-scrolling beat-down as the classic X-men; and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, the robot arm action platformer with attitude.

We’ve also got trials for both Beat Sketcher and Tetris if you’ve been waiting to try before you buy. There’s also a small selection of additional Special Offers for those in search of the odd bargain.

PSP has BlazBlue Calamity Trigger, fan favourite 2D fighting action, and Lord of Arcana, the much anticipated and highly acclaimed action RPG.

But the star of the show this week has to be the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Beta opening up to all Store users – previously Plus only, now everyone has a chance to get stuck in and blow each other’s brains out in an orgy of blood and violen… sorry, I got a bit sidetracked there. Long story short, it’s awesome, grab it when it becomes available (here’s the bad news) at 11am GMT tomorrow morning.

Also with regard to The UnderGarden, despite the charming blog entry yesterday the game isn’t quite ready to hit the EU digital shelves yet, rest assured it won’t be a long wait and you’re not going to be short of things to do in the meantime.

That’s it – away with you, I say! I will be responding to comments today if I can, if I’m suspiciously absent this afternoon be safe in the knowledge that I’m out doing things to make your lives better and I will get back to the comments tomorrow morning.

Crash 2! Horrrayyyyy!

homerjnick 2 February, 2011 @ 1:02 pm   2

Very poor update for me tbh…can’t believe The Undergarden is delayed…

BlueTemplar74 2 February, 2011 @ 1:02 pm   3

Any word on when we will get Under Siege?

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:10 pm

Last I heard it has now cleared QA, shouldn’t be much longer afaik. I will keep you posted.

Bionic Commando is a wee bit pricey, but still I gotta have it.

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:11 pm

I know it’s at the premium end of the PSN game prices but it’s got enough in it to warrant the price, I would say. If you liked the first one this is a must have indeed.

Shadow-Jaxter 2 February, 2011 @ 1:05 pm   5

When is Rayman (PSone) coming back to the Dutch Playstation Store?

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:17 pm

I will ask Ubisoft to double check where they want to game to be available and if I can I will have it brought back to the Dutch store.

Cool update to go with my Plus as well.

Shame about undergarden – it looks really interesting. I hope the delay is not an Auditorium length one.

Can you confirm the price on the LBP costumes – £4 for a single costume is waaaaay to expensive.

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:15 pm

They’re both free, sorry I overlooked that while I was copy/pasting earlier. Someone nice will amend the post for me. :)

@ #3 “Any word on when we will get Under Siege?”

None! :( Even the Devs don’t know. Sony QA have had this game since the beginning of Dec. I gotta be honest, my interest is starting to wain a little, thanks primarily to the delay.

Hey Ross, could you yell at Tomb Raiders publishers about the games being $6 on the US store and £8 on ours.

Releasing those PS1 classics at that price in UK is quite insulting. £8 = $13, we are being charged over double.

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:16 pm

I’ll be talking to them about it, yes, although ultimately as you know it’s up to them. This is a hot button topic though so I will definitely bring it up when next I chat to them.

Only good thing is Killzone 3 open beta.

This is frustrating as hell, where are the new avatars? Another week and nothing new…

ADPolicenaut 2 February, 2011 @ 1:06 pm   12

Just a quick question pertaining to the topic of PSone titles and JP imports – Will there be any possibility of Parasite Eve coming to the EU PSN, despite being unreleased over here?

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:18 pm

It’s being looked at. A lot of things around PSone are being looked at. Can’t elaborate at the moment.

Oh by the way people Bionic Commando 2 has extra DRM, you can only play it if you are signed into PSN.

FallingStickman 2 February, 2011 @ 1:08 pm   14

:( Why isn’t Crash Bandicoot 2 available in Poland?

Skookie30 2 February, 2011 @ 1:09 pm   15

Zzzzzzz……. wake me up when we get cloud saves only 3 things that is ALL 3 weeks Now we got poor update Why bother.

february is off to a poor start yes woot CB-2 back but it not new it was Pulled remember now wait till next week drizzle.

4/10
:(

Shou_Kobayashi 2 February, 2011 @ 1:09 pm   16

Hi Ross,

Bad news. I might be not present in every update beginning next week for the coming 4 months :(. Work.

However I will still read the blog. In addition I’m awaiting EXPLODEMON, curve studios said 9.99 € and release next week. http://ow.ly/3OI0N !

I noticed this http://ow.ly/3OGc3 for the first time. So I tried my Legend of Dragoon disc and it worked. Next time I’ll read the (…) manual. My FF I, II, IV – IX are also working perfectly… well I have a scratch on the 3rd disc of VII, so I bought that from the store. I will still buy them again (espc. LoD) for support and my PSP .. well maybe not FF VIII ….

Still awaiting Soul Edge (my brother took it) and Jade Cocoon (never had it).

Also, I might get Grandia with EXPLODEMON, because I gifted myself a 20 € PSN card for just being awesome :)!

In addition, you didn’t mention DEAD NATION for Germany on the last store update and the folder description for FEARY: Legend of Avalon is still not german ;).

guessing no Undergarden as there seemed to be an issue with a missing demo on US store according to the blog…

any news on when Euffloria or From Dust is coming?

unitedkronos 2 February, 2011 @ 1:09 pm   18

It’s great to see Crash Bandicoot 2 finally appear, any news on the missing Tekkens and Wipeouts? :)

Carnivius_Prime 2 February, 2011 @ 1:11 pm   19

Bionic Commando 1 was a terrible game so no thanks to a second. X-Men I nabbed off the US store a couple months ago so I could play my american friends who I used to play the original arcade machine with anyways.

I might buy the two GTA’s while they’re on sale though Rockstar disappointed me so much with the hugely overrated horse-riding sim Red Dead Redemption I’m too afraid I’d be wasting my money.

Why are those LBP costumes £3.99 each? I have them already and I’m sure they used to be free. I wouldn’t have paid for those ones otherwise.

I think what’s most interesting lately is that making a PSP Mini has gotten a lot easier. GreenTechPlus+ on the store last week was made with the PC program Game Maker.

why tomorrow morning? why don’t you put the killzone beta in this evening update? and it’s 11am too… put it in the evening so we all start fare and square, for example i’m at school ’til 6pm and when i’ll get in the beta everybody will have almost everything unlocked…

Good update, thanks for the trial of Tetris and for bringing back Crash Bandicoot 2.

I’ll buy Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 sooner or later, I love the first one.

One question, why don’t we have Disney’s Hercules on the spanish store? I’d like to buy it, specialy with that offer…

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:20 pm

I think there are issues with licensing although I might be wrong. I am seeing Disney Interactive tomorrow so I will discuss it with them then.

MissSouthampton 2 February, 2011 @ 1:12 pm   22

Wow. The price has shot up on these

LittleBigPlanet
Chinese New Year Costume (£3.99/€4.99)
Groundhog Day Costume (£3.99/€4.99)

I think I may have got them free like in LBP1 era ha ha

nicolajNN 2 February, 2011 @ 1:13 pm   23

I have a bit of a problem and it will probably sound very stupid, but is there any way I can get help?

I got a PSN Card at christmas, and today I wanted to use it, I have never used one before and kind of ruined some of the code, I can see all except two. I also have an 11 digit code from the bottom of the card.Am I just screwed or is there something I can do?

Sorry for going of topic

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:22 pm

You’ll have to hit Customer Services up I’m afraid. They may be able to help.

Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:13 pm   24

Oh wow, that was a copy and paste error on my part there!
The LBP costumes are both free! £0 and €0 – I will have someone amend that.

Death_Seaker3000 2 February, 2011 @ 1:14 pm   25

Meh Killzone 3 for me then… :)

Not a lot for me this week, might get some Rock Band 3 DLC(The Clash FTW).
One thing I gotta know, even if you cannot reveal it yet, do you have a date set for the PSN release of Back To The Future: The Game?

AMERICAN_-_SCUM 2 February, 2011 @ 1:17 pm   27

ROSS ALL WE ASK FOR IS A COUPLE OF DECENT AVATARS, YET FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS WE HAVENT HAD A SINGLE ONE,& THE 2 WEEKS B4 THAT LAME EYEPET ONES.THE US HAS HUNDREDS AVAILABLE AN WE GET SCREWED OVER YET AGAIN. NO DOUBT U WILL SAY ‘ THERE ON THE WAY’ BUT U BIN SAYING THAT FOR MOTHS. AND I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME WE GOT SOME FREE ONES AS WAY OF AN APOLOGY

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:23 pm

I can’t magic them out of thin air. They’re all coming, they’ll get here when they get here.

Where is TR3?:(

Am i the only one that like the update? Only disappointed about not Under Siege is released yet :(. I have my funds ready on psn but they will soon go too something else.

@ nebdius

saw both those LBP costumes were free last night on US store – incentive to import games I guess especially as the UK doesn’t celebrate Groundhog Day

and no it has nothing to do with Bill Murray – its about a small animal seeing its shadow or not and predicting how many weeks are left in winter

AMERICAN_-_SCUM 2 February, 2011 @ 1:18 pm   31

@28 MONTHS NOT MOTHS LOL

Skookie30 2 February, 2011 @ 1:18 pm   32

@Ross a simple question why do you lot have to wait for the next fix window to release content take tomorrow & others release of titles Not on wednesday i would like More of them.

M$ Does it every time quite alot in fact you like to tease us that the problem with you lot take Plus you tease us with content but dont deliver.

You lot hype things & cyptic clues take the cloud theme for PLUS members. :|

TOMBI’S COMING WOOP WOOP

Nice to see Crash 2 on the Store.. again. At a sweet price too, best Crash of em all imo. Tetris Trial is much needed too considering all them Tetris games out there and defo cant wait to try X Men Arcade (shame there’s no Trial) & about time for more GH6 Songs, even though they are poop.

Only criticism is the price (yeah i know. Mm) of DLC for LBP Costumes and im sure they were previously free?

Is Crash 2 any different from the one that was released back in 2007?

Dante_Zero 2 February, 2011 @ 1:21 pm   35

so no new avatars, no auditorium, no undergarden (released on US store yesturday), no dragons lair etc etc. Poor plus update too.

WOuld it help it SCEE just took a break of 4 weeks were you put nothing on all the stores and spent the 4 weeks fixing the issues with content lengthy q&a and lack of content. I’d be cool with no store update for 4 weeks if it meant streamlining, efficency and aligning content and q&a process with the other PSN stores.

Chaosprower 2 February, 2011 @ 1:21 pm   36

* LittleBigPlanet
o Chinese New Year Costume (£3.99/€4.99)
o Groundhog Day Costume (£3.99/€4.99)

Are the prices right? These same costumes were free last year.

@Myself.. As i posted & it refreshed, the LBP DLC is free.

DJ91rocks 2 February, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   38

For the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta will those that were in the Closed beta have to re-download it from the Store? Thanks

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:26 pm

Try logging in before you download a new client, I think it might be the same one.

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 2:04 pm

No I stand corrected, the Open Beta client is definitely a NEW CLIENT so you will need to download the new one when it becomes available.

AllytheBruce 2 February, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   39

those mini’s seem more tempting now at £1 each, it at least puts them in line with mobile phone games but I’ll check out reviews first before I buy

Danieljay1 2 February, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   40

it should be time to start adding ps2 games and ps3 games on demand to keep up with the 360

smashrash 2 February, 2011 @ 1:24 pm   41

finally, the update i’ve been waiting for.
By the way Ross, is there any word on the Spyro releases?
Crash 2 just came out and all i need are the PS1 Spyro games.
You will have one happy customer :)

Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 1:27 pm   42

Right – leave your comments, I’ll be back later on. Thanks all.

Ross said: ”I think there are issues with licensing although I might be wrong. I am seeing Disney Interactive tomorrow so I will discuss it with them then.”

That would be great, thanks a lot!

Danieljay1 2 February, 2011 @ 1:28 pm   44

the US got gta iv and assasins creed brotherhood avartars next week how comes we dont get them

Sometimes i wish the store was one big store and everything goes on their

Shadowdragoon 2 February, 2011 @ 1:28 pm   45

Any Chance we get Tales Of Graces f?
Stumbled upon a video of that game, and it looks interesting.
(Its a PS3 Game)

Cheers Ross and lzorpo for the responses.

lol, cant believe people get upset because theres no avatars on the store for them……. :~)

anyways, Ross, is the killzone open beta any different from the closed beta..?, do i need to delete and re-download or is the older version i already have on my hd good enough..?
cheers.

and get them bloody avatars sorted…LOL

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 2:07 pm

It’s a bit frustrating for me sometimes because I can see that all the records for those avatars are in the system and I can’t give them to you!

Seriously, all the Capcom ones and the Rockstar ones, and the Assassin’s Creed and the Tron ones and all of them are definitely going to be here soon.
The NIS ones I’m not sure about but I will chase them down if I can.

And yes, I double checked and it looks like you will need to get the new Killzone client when it goes up tomorrow.

So this is your idea of a Fabulous February is it? A sale on minis? So the 6 or 7 PSOne titles we were promised would blow us away in January never happened. The big update on Monday was a story basically saying “Oh have pitty on us as it’s really really hard work getting PSOne games licensed etc. etc.” I assumed that these 6 or 7 titles would be arriving today, at least that’s what the article led me to believe, along with Wild Arms?

Lord of Arcana may have been a purchase for me if not for a.) it’s cheaper to buy UMD version and b.) UMD version comes with loads of extras such as art book, Soundtrack CD etc.

I think the only reason people complain about these poor updates is because you big them up so much. There’s all this “Hey look at this, it’s great and next week’s going to be even greater” when in reality it’s not. You can polish poop, put a bow on it and do a song and dance number about it but at the end of the day, it’s still poop.

    Ross McGrath 2 February, 2011 @ 2:14 pm

The story on Monday was described to be exactly what it was and nothing else. I have clearly stated on several occasions that the six titles I was referring to, including Wild Arms have been legally cleared and not that they were ready to be released imminently.
In no way was the article meant to garner pity, I just thought that perhaps the community would like an explanation a bit of transparency around the process, and it was largely received well.

February as a whole month is going to be a very strong month for PSN content, including four new PS3 titles next week, among which are Stacking and Explodemon. This is week one of four and I consider this week’s publish to be a very good one with new titles for both PS3 and PSP, new minis and the delivery of a highly requested PSone title.

I do sincerely apologise if you don’t agree but as the old adage goes, you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

SURPRISE SURPRISE THEYRE ON THE WAY . .WHERE FROM ? THE MOON

curious why people think the dynamic cloud theme for plus users is some cryptic thing about cloud service – if plus were being given a theme called buds in bloom would plus users think they were being given recreational plant matter?
