‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 23rd February 2011

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 23rd February 2011

And so, the sun sets on February and we round off with another strong week of content with fun stuff to be had for PS3 and PSP.

The UnderGarden floats onto PSN this week, spreading joy, pollen and brightly coloured cuteness in its wake, the perfect counter-point to Alien Breed: Descent, the third chapter of Team 17′s twin-stick, extra-terrestrial bug hunt. TNT Racers is also now available for all across Europe.

For all your freebie lovers, we’ve got demos of Dragon Age 2, LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars and platform exclusive, Yakuza 4.

Awesome DLC this week in the shape of the highly anticipated Dead Money for Fallout: New Vegas and the Retro Map Pack for KillZone 3. We’ve also got the first of three new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit packs this week – Armed and Dangerous which brings new content for you Autolog junkies.

More fan favourites on PSP with Ys I & II Chronicles and Tactics Ogre, and some low cost titles to be revisited with Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Disney/Pixar’s movie tie-in, Cars.

To get you in the mood for David Jaffe’s Twisted Metal reboot, we bring you the roots of the franchise this week with Twisted Metal on PSone.

I’m here this week so will be commenting on and off in the afternoon – I have a meeting between 3.00pm and 5.00pm so if I haven’t responded please be patient.

A quick reminder that I can’t tell you release dates for games when a date hasn’t been announced by the publisher, so please, please don’t ask me – however I can tell you that Hoard, Under Siege, BTTF and Strong Bad: CGFAP all have preliminary internal release dates with us now – so the wait for these titles will (fingers crossed) not be a long one.

Catch you later.

Hi Ross,

Is there any chance that will get Xenogears in the future?? Did Square-Enix at least mentioned they want to give it to us??

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:38 pm

The problem with Xenogears is that there is no PAL disc, it was never released here. This poses a series of problems for us, but I’m trying to get those problems resolved although I can’t say if they will be or how long it will take, (I’m not being cute, I just really don’t know if they can be resolved).

I, personally, would love nothing more than to bring you Xenogears.

Dragon Age 2 demo!

My day has been made :)

GaiaScythe 23 February, 2011 @ 1:32 pm   3

No Dissidia 012 prologus … [DELETED]-.-

hi, can i ask where Back to the Future is pleaaaaase?

divine1000 23 February, 2011 @ 1:33 pm   5

When can we expect to see Back to the Future?

You may not be able to help Ross, but I can’t get the DC Universe subscription discount. It is blank for me on the store and via the game.

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:42 pm

I’ve spoken to Elliott about this and it’s being resolved – you won’t miss the window for purchase anyway, there’s a lot of people on both sides of the Atlantic getting exactly this issue sorted.

ROBERTWARNES 23 February, 2011 @ 1:35 pm   7

@pawelgr5

Xenogears was never released in PAL

Bearskopff 23 February, 2011 @ 1:35 pm   8

Yakuza avatars? Sweet! Wasn’t thrilled by the demo though. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still pick the game up, I just preferred the more open-ended demo Yakuza 3 had.

Hope your meeting is packed with free cake and milkshake.

Primal_Link 23 February, 2011 @ 1:37 pm   9

still no prologus guess SE had the date around or after the full games release in Japan on the 3rd march, that would make sense i guess after all.

Only problem is that prologus may now clash with my playthrough of pkmn black/white next week, oh boo….

ROBERTWARNES 23 February, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   10

Hey Ross. Tactics Ogre’s retail release date in Australia was pushed back to the 3rd of March. Will this effect the date of the PSN version?

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:45 pm

Ah, short answer is, it might.
Nothing has been flagegd to me yet but I might yet see some emails flying around this afternoon asking for it to be delayed.

So at the moment, no, but don’t be surprised if it’s not there for the publish until retail release.

GahLakTus 23 February, 2011 @ 1:39 pm   11

still no back to the future? pretty weak.

twisted metal is sweet, but i wuda prefered resident evil or summit simelar lol

any news on the price of the new ghostbusters game when it is gonna hit the store?

and any news on ghostbusters avatars? or how about Marvel VS Capcom3 avatars? ( mainly a galactus one to go with my username lol)

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:50 pm

If you want to know when Back to the Future is out here you really need to be asking the publisher to announce a date. :)

Twisted Metal is sweet indeed – actually I was watching the product manager for the new Twisted Metal game make a real pig’s ear out of the second level of this PSone version yesterday.

I think I can get away with telling you that Ghostbusters: SOS isn’t too far out and I SPECIFICALLY requested that they look into making some Ghostbusters avatars (I knew you lot would want them), so cross your fingers and we may get some!

    Josh Walker 23 February, 2011 @ 3:02 pm

Poor old Phil ‘Pigs Ear’ Lynch…

    Phil Lynch 23 February, 2011 @ 3:10 pm

    Hi Ross, Hi Josh,

I’ve been thinking about my performance on Twisted Metal PSOne and I’d really like to know if you have any pointers or if you think I could improve in some way……..

    …..then I realised

IT DOESN’T MATTER what you think!

Wooo Undergarden and some DLC for me!

When will the update happen? Nice to see some Putty squad avatars also that game i think is out in March(thanks System 3) ;-) Amiga FTW

Hehe nice Twisted Metal PSone classic ^^ is Twisted Metal 2 also coming to the store? :) America has Twisted Metal 2 on there store.

Foolsgold6970 23 February, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   14

Twisted Metal… Sweet.

I Think I might explode.

CurryShaman 23 February, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   15

Hey Ross.

Just wondering if there’s any word on the UK release of Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People? Love Telltale and love Strong Bad, so really looking forward to that one :D

I played the lego star wars demo a week ago. I subscribe to opm and it was on the cover disc. I knew it wasn’t available yet. I liked it. Enough to even make me consider buying the game.

I downloaded the Dragon Age 2 demo from the US store this morning and I am now recovering from sheer boredom.

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:54 pm

I can’t comment on Dragon Age 2, I haven’t played it yet, but we saw LEGO Star Wars running a few months back when they brought it in to show us and I was actually incredibly impressed with the new fetures and how nice it looked. Definitely one to consider.

Hey Ross, cheers for the update.

Any sign of the other PSOne Classics article, it’s been a couple of weeks now? :-(

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:56 pm

Yeah, I might have to publish your request list without the extra news but I will put something up in tandem with James so we can pick through and prioritise what we should be trying to get!

Hey Ross,

MLB the show 11 demo is up on the US store.. Did you have any luck in getting it for the EU..

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 1:56 pm

I’ll get a status update when the man I need to speak to is back at his desk.

HiddenAway 23 February, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   19

@ CurryShaman

See the original blog post – Ross says there is a date but can’t be confirmed until TellTale games says so.

xchris2008x 23 February, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   20

crap update again (no Back To The Future) i thought feb was going to be the best month lol

Tryed Dragon Age 2 on the US store yesterday and didnt like that either (didnt like the 1st)

Total Games bought this year so far = 2 (lbp2 and tv show king)

Are we going to get anything decent next month (apart from the sega classics)

BLEACH-Fan 23 February, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   21

Will we get Killzone 3 avatars?

will be getting Twisted Metal was my first PS1 game :)

xchris2008x 23 February, 2011 @ 1:44 pm   22

Just seen Twisted Metal (ps1) only good game out today but it looks crap on a hd tv so cant get it

Turbine_inc 23 February, 2011 @ 1:44 pm   23

i know sony only reply to positive comments, so i dont expect a response, but anyway

i sent an email to the dev of plants vs zombies to ask why the price on psn is almost double the price of the steam version on pc which includes more content

ordinarily i wouldnt bother, but i constantly see sony blaming the devs for the prices of content on the store

anyway, they replied and said that sony set the price inline with other similar content on the store and that they had little control over pricing

so sony, why is it almost double the cost of the pc version, and why always blame the devs for the poor pricing structure that is so often apparent on the psn?

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:05 pm

I don’t only respond to positive comments at all – I have in fact already answered this a couple of weeks ago.

What I tell you about the publisher setting the price is absolutely true, and the developers are also correct in asserting that they have little control over the pricing – what you’ve missed here is that the ‘Sony’ that the developers are referring to is Sony Online Entertainment, not Sony Computer Entertainment – they are treated as a third-party publisher in SCEE because they are based in the US, and they were the group who determined the price.
In fact you’ll see that the publisher listed in the publisher field on the Store (under the title) is ‘Sony Online Entertainment’, rather than SCEE (that’s first-party, those are the games on which we internally set the price).

I suspect they simply chose a Euro price point which was directly comparable to the dollar price point, which I personally don’t think is a good call and I will take it up with them when I speak to them next, but as you can see from the large variation of price on the Store, there are plenty of options to choose from.

loonytoon1982 23 February, 2011 @ 1:45 pm   24

Hi Ross,

I was wondering if you have any information with regards to the availability of the Test Drive Unlimited 2 DLC. It’s my understanding that it briefly appeared in the EU store a week or so ago but with no price.

Can you shed some light on this please as I would really like to obtain it.

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:07 pm

I only know that the publisher has had some issue with patching and content – they’ve spoken to me about it and they’re working towards a resolution. The content WILL be coming back when their issues are resolved and I’m waiting for them to contact us to give us the all clear.

Round_Dice 23 February, 2011 @ 1:45 pm   25

Any news on when Croatia will get an update with older releases?

Still missing a good number of games and dlc that is available in other pal stores.

Also great lineup this week, Tactics Ogre and Undergarden for me.

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:08 pm

There’s a roll out where publishers are invited to update their chosen release stores and for a lot of content they do this immediately – however if particular content isn’t that popular they may choose not to extend the release areas.

We recently launched some more Stores so you may see another influx of content to Croatia soon.

Do people actually read what Ross types? People asking about BTTF when he’s already told you in the update.

snolliebollie 23 February, 2011 @ 1:47 pm   27

still no “tales from space: about a blob” on the belgium pss???

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:09 pm

I spoke to the guys at DrinkBox – they WILL be bringing it to more Stores – no timeline yet. :)

DaveyBear- 23 February, 2011 @ 1:47 pm   28

Glad to see we’ll eventually get Back To The Future, thought for a while it would never arrive

GahLakTus 23 February, 2011 @ 1:47 pm   29

also forgot to add, i thought you were gonna get round to replying to last weeks questions*

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:10 pm

Ah, well, the sad truth is that sometimes there’s too much going on for me to get back to the comments. The team will be expanding a bit soon, I should have more time to give over to you fine people (or at least delegate!)

Hi Ross, nice update.

Any word on the “Legacy of Kain” games? VAE VICTUS!

Sorry went off track there….

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:11 pm

Oooh, what, you mean like Soul Reaver, for example?
    I’ve no idea, I’m sure… :D

I was hoping for a PSOne Classic but didn’t see this one coming. Twisted Metal rules.

Also the last PSP Ys game and ~Tactics Ogre~? Don’t mind me if I do.

PS. Wild Arms and Tombi are pretty much my two favorite Playstation games so when those become available I’m gonna snatch them ASAP.

Keep On Truckin’.

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:15 pm

Trying for as many PSone titles as I can, I’ve been shouting about them so much around here that everyone is sick of me.

Skookie30 23 February, 2011 @ 1:48 pm   32

I make this short this week i only getting 1 thing from this pathetic Update No imports no resident evil No nothing the same old promises Pointless I‘m outta here.

3/10

DNAtlantic 23 February, 2011 @ 1:48 pm   33

I defiantly want the Hot Pursuit map pack!

Hi Ross,

Thanks for getting some more Trinity Universe content for Australia last week.

Just to get in Early, do you know if Hoard, Under Siege, BTTF and Strong Bad: CGFAP will be available on the Australian PSN? (BTTF seems to be rated by the OFLC, and Strong Bad has an older OFLC rating)

Thanks

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:19 pm

Unless they change their submitted info, SBCGFAP and BTTF will both be available in all locales!
Hoard and Under Siege, I’m afraid I can’t see the info yet. :)

“…however I can tell you that Hoard, Under Siege,…”

You forgot to mention Williams Pinball, Ross

The System 3 website says that its out in March (Pigs to Runway One) :-D

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:17 pm

No really, Williams Pinball is seriously, nearly ready to launch! I reckon March MIGHT actually be accurate.

I’m gonna make it the blog post image for the week it launches.

Nice update!

I’ll try Dragon Age, TNT Racers and Undergarden this week.

Yakuza 4 Demo and I would take Dragon Lair’s but I’m waiting the price of Castlevania DLC.

slayerking69 23 February, 2011 @ 1:50 pm   38

I thought there was going to be 6 highly requested ps1 games being released this month?

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:23 pm

Six, popular first party Psone titles passed legal clearance. One of them is Wild Arms. That’s all I’ve ever said on that particular matter, I certainly never said they’d be out in March.

Although Twisted Metal was one of them. :)

HiddenAway 23 February, 2011 @ 1:50 pm   39

I take it Tactics Ogre is being released on Friday rather than today to tie up with the retail release?

    Ross McGrath 23 February, 2011 @ 2:25 pm

That’s not on any of my information – is it out in Europe at retail today? We often go in line with that.

Toy_brain 23 February, 2011 @ 1:51 pm   40

915mb for Ys 1 and 2?!
Yeesh, looks like something is going to have to be deleted from my PSP memory stick!

Hiya Ross!

Could you please comment on snolliebollie’s question above (#27) and include the Netherlands in your answer while you’re at it? :-)

wS_IRapture 23 February, 2011 @ 1:54 pm   42

kinda sucks that the US gets resi 2 and we dont

Gavin_Rozee 23 February, 2011 @ 1:55 pm   43

Please could you forward a request to make Twisted Metal a free Plus PSone game?

TheGordito 23 February, 2011 @ 1:55 pm   44

Greetings

Probably the wrong place, but I still don’t have the Shatter issue fixed. Just downloaded it again, probably by the 10th time now, installed and it remains a trial instead of the full game.

Opt1mus76 23 February, 2011 @ 1:55 pm   45

Hi Ross. Will the NFS DLC be available as a bundle when last pack released? Seems bit expensive for what’s included if each pack is over £5.

Chaosprower 23 February, 2011 @ 1:55 pm   46

I was expecting Space Channel 5 Part 2…It comes out for Xbox 360 and PC this week.

I have a REALLY SIMPLE SOLUTION.

US psn have a Japan import store.

The EU PSN can open up an US IMPORT STORE, and release all the PSP games and psOne games there.

Problem solved. Everyone is happy, and SONY is getting our money.
No more [DELETED].

No more PEGI Rating, and multiple language problem etc etc. just make other license terms for the import store games.

What say you Ross or SCEE?

Ross/James

Quick question:

When my PS+ subscription renewal comes due, will it automatically debit my credit card if there isn’t enough money in my Store wallet?
