‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 2nd March 2011

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 2nd March 2011

A new month, a new pool of content, new special offers and new price reductions, so grab a bargain.

PixelJunk Shooter 2 is finally with us – you’re tasked with escaping, [SPOILAAR ALURT!!!1!] the belly of the beast that swallowed you up at the end of the first game, while saving all the survivors you can.

The criminally under-rated Prince of Persia (2008) is published too, starring Nolan North – the hardest working voice over artist in video games – but sadly you’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, I think we’re publishing some sort of ‘First Strike’ map pack for some kind of military first-person shooter named Call of Duty: Black Ops. Apparently it’s quite popular…

PSone – Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver joins us on the EU Store, proving that you don’t need a bottom jaw when you’ve got a snazzy pashmina type thing to keep the flies off. Oh, I seem to remember there’s a tale of revenge and vampire killing in there somewhere as well.

New DLC for Dead Space 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and more – loads of avatars for Ferrari fans and a smattering of dynamic themes.

More next week – what’s being published on the 9th? GREAT SCOTT! I can’t possibly tell you that.

Hi Ross.

I think a little while back, Dylan Cuthbert, or someone else from the PixelJunk team, said that there would be a reward for people who had bought both PixelJunk Shooter 1 and 2.

Just wondering if you guys have any idea what this is exactly?
e.g. is it in the game, or is it a free theme from the store or something that you’re aware of?

The reason I ask is because, we bought PJS(1) on my girlfriends account, and we’ll probably buy PJS2 on my account, so, just wondering whether this would mean that we wouldn’t get said reward, e.g. if it looked at the psn account to see who bought it etc.

Thanks.

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 1:45 pm

I, personally, am not aware and haven’t been made aware of what this is – the person I’d want to ask is not here today so to play it safe I would suggest you try and purchase from the same account if possible.

DJbruce92 2 March, 2011 @ 1:33 pm   6

What time (GMT) does the PSN store usually update?

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 1:44 pm

Usually updates at 3pm GMT but generally it’s determined by whether we have late submissions from publishers or finalising merchandising – so you can expect it any time between 3pm and 5pm GMT most weeks.

We do always try to aim for 3pm.

AcidCrashX 2 March, 2011 @ 1:34 pm   7

wow thats a bucketload of content ^_^

GahLakTus 2 March, 2011 @ 1:34 pm   8

why did we get soul reaver BEFORE blood omen? i want my blood omen lol

and why is it soo dam expensive? you can buy it in allot of game shops for like 50p?

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 1:47 pm

I did recently have a quiet word with Square-Enix about their PSone pricing on the community’s behalf, but I can’t directly influence them in this.

As far as Blood Omen, it might still come but since everyone has been requesting Soul Reaver for some time now we did our best to get it to you asap.

SlapnutzUK 2 March, 2011 @ 1:34 pm   12

What’s Smackdown Vs Raw 2011 Discount Pack 2? Is it the DLC we have been waiting for i.e. wCw arena, etc…

Also I thought the below was going to be free due to the abortion of game that TDU2 is and still is?

Add-ons for DA2 before the game is even out? :\

Squidmonk3J 2 March, 2011 @ 1:34 pm   14

Nice update today Ross :)
Will be getting that Dead Space 2 DLC.

I’m sure alot of people have asked before , but has there ever been a possibility that Final Fantasy X will be made as a HD Classic or something for the PSN Store?

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:00 pm

There’s always a possibility for sure, it was a massively successful and popular title. Do I know of any PLANS for this? Sadly no. :)

valkyrio 2 March, 2011 @ 1:35 pm   15

Where are the Killzone 3 avatars you promised us last week Ross ? :(

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 1:50 pm

They are still being approved by Guerrilla so they’ve been pushed back a week – this is why I shouldn’t ever tell you dates! Now you’re all disappointed. :/

xchris2008x 2 March, 2011 @ 1:36 pm   16

lol cod maps £11.99 lmao

next year 13.99+

vicheous 2 March, 2011 @ 1:36 pm   17

I guess the TDU2 download means the patch to make the game work online is approved? i cant even get my cars to show up, i bought all the DLC 1st day!

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 1:51 pm

Actually I don’t know about the patch – I know they’ve been working on it. If you’re worried, hold off on purchasing until you hear from the publisher on this.

sheelby 2 March, 2011 @ 1:37 pm   18

hey ross you say, but last week that it is the KillZone 3 avatars appear this week are where the …… -.-

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:01 pm

They’re being approved by the KilZone team, it’s a minor delay, they won;t be held up long.

Hell-Raiser-85 2 March, 2011 @ 1:37 pm   19

Hi Ross great update this week. Do you no what time First Strike Map Pack will go live tomorrow? Thanks

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:18 pm

I believe it’ll be between 9am and 10am GMT – Prince of Persia will go live at the same time.

slayerking69 2 March, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   20

SO a real classic comes to the store and not available to this locale, Great!!

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:20 pm

I’m pretty sure the situation here is that Square-Enix submitted the game to PEGI and not to OFLCA and USK, hence no Aus/NZ and no Germany.

This might change after they make some sales and cover the costs of the rating submission – I will certainly be suggesting that they should look at doing exactly this in the near future.

identity25 2 March, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   21

I’m addicted to mini’s and gonna have to et another psn card despite being a tight budget! I Love the fact theres a good lot on today, but at the same time for once I wanted a quiet week ;-)
You just can’t win :-)

Taken from the PS3 Forums for User ‘benjirimm’..

“Why has the EU PSN store suddenly moved from updating from Tuesday to Wednesday? More specifically why as of Wednesday at 1:55am is the dead space 2 severed DLC not available when its release was set for Tuesday, I realise this is a very petty complaint but the same DLC was available on my Xbox from 4pm Tuesday. This makes me reconsider buying a multi-platform title on the ps3 if the content is available earlier on the 360. While some may call me impatient this DLC is something I have been very much looking forward to and am very frustrated by the EU PSN for not sticking to release dates.”

HUNTER297 2 March, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   23

Hi Ross
Question:Can we expect Sonic Adventure 2 in PSN?
I am asking because SA is there already and Sega is bringing STH 1 and 2

sephiroth180 2 March, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   24

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver? Sweet nitger if YES. I dunno if I missed some answers, but is it possible to have Xenogears & Threads of Fate (and Chrono Cross) coming to the European PSN, at some point or another?

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:23 pm

At the moment, no, because there was never a PAL version of these games – I am trying to find a way around this.

xchris2008x 2 March, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   25

nothing for me this week again, just sonic 1 and ps+ content

BLEACH-Fan 2 March, 2011 @ 1:39 pm   26

Hey where are the Killzone 3 avatars :(

Carnivius_Prime 2 March, 2011 @ 1:39 pm   27

pretty poor. I was hoping that Playstation Move Heroes demo’s absence from Plus was cos it might be available to all but nope. Shame too as it’s a game I very much want to sample.

Soul Reaver’s the only interesting thing on this list but that seems very overpriced for a PS1 game that didn’t even really have a proper ending.

i had to laugh at ‘under rated’ being used to describe that prince of persia game. if anything it’s the total opposite. waste of money.

and the demo is for call of duty black ops, which anyone who wanted that tiresome fps has likely already bought it.

I have to completely disagree of your assessment of Prince of Persia, it had a progressive replayability mechanic, a beautiful art style, snappy dialogue and exploration gameplay I found engaging. The combat was cinematic although not teribly involved – that would be my criticism of the game if I had one.
I think too many people were so focused on what it wasn’t, (a Sands of Time title) to appreciate what it was, and is.

>_> I better not see half of my friends list filled with Ferrari avatars now >:I

DamnYouSam 2 March, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   29

Strange about the DA2 DLC already, makes me think it should be on the disc…

Also, shame about the CoD map price going up again, still intend on getting it but considering Treyarch’s obvious preference of the 360 (and it still being the same price on XBL) it’s definitely a reason to put more consideration into whether I actually will.

Gautier82 2 March, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   30

Hi Ross,
Still a hope for Xenogears, PE and others ? Thx for this update !

Bassmonkey_Mike 2 March, 2011 @ 1:40 pm   31

Soul Reaver…fond memories. Pixel Junk Shooter 2 for me! :o)

X_Weapon 2 March, 2011 @ 1:41 pm   32

Ross, do you have any news on Castlevania DLC ‘Reverie’?
Mercurysteam will be here to talk about the DLC in the coming weeks?

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:25 pm

It won’t be a long wait – I can’t tell you any more than that I’m afraid. :)

£11.49 for Call Of Duty Map Packs….absolute disgrace ( these were only 1200points on the xbox)
are psn+ members likely to get a discount??

lomo_14 2 March, 2011 @ 1:41 pm   34

Why is the first strike map pack 50p more expensive than the mw2 ones? First strike on the xbox is 1200msp, same as both the stimulus and resurgence packs for mw2. Is this a typo?

Someone should URGENTLY explain to game developers/publishers that releasing paid-for dlc BEFORE the actual game (I’m looking at you, Dragon Age II) hits the stores is a huge turn-off… After all, nobody wants to feel like a mere cash-cow, now do they!?

Primal_Link 2 March, 2011 @ 1:41 pm   36

Well done on the update, I love the way on this update post you have the headlining feature as Pixel Junk Shooter (as it rightly should be!) instead of COD Black ops.

Well done to you guys for that!

Death_Seaker3000 2 March, 2011 @ 1:42 pm   40

SyLaR__GrEy 2 March, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   45

Any word on a release of ‘Beyond Good And Evil HD’ ?
XBLA got it today.

On one hand, good price for a great game, can’t wait for PixelJunk Shooter 2, thanks!

On the other hand, disgusting DLC releases for MvsC3 and Dragon Age II, that content should have been included in the Blu-Ray, you BioWare and Capcom scammers.

umbrellabio 2 March, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   47

resident evil? resident evil? resident evil? resident evil? resident evil?

thanks for soul reaver!!!!!

Lucreto 2 March, 2011 @ 1:43 pm   48

I will be getting Soul Reaver. I never played it it back on the PS1 era.

Also I can’t wait for Back To The Future next week.

Anyway Ross where is this PS1 list going to be released. The legal department must have found a problem.

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:36 pm

Yeah, unfortunately they did, but it’s ongoing.
I’ll still post the list in a short while though, so you can see the interest and what titles we’ll be seeking.

NinjaMidgetRyan 2 March, 2011 @ 1:44 pm   49

@23 also that is the most petty complaint I’ve ever heard!

Shame on you for calling yourself a gamer!!!

LAClennell 2 March, 2011 @ 1:44 pm   50

Let me guess:

oh the bethemoth guys haven’t given us the pink knight yet?

even though they have said that they have over on there forums :/

    Ross McGrath 2 March, 2011 @ 2:40 pm

Last week when I checked, we’d had no submission for the content. I have just called upstairs again to the Third Party relations department to ask what the status is.

Since this began two weeks ago, our account manager here at SCEE who looks after The Behemoth’s account has sent two emails to them asking for the necessary submission and an update on what’s going on – so far we have received no replies.
