In response to overwhelming demand from the PS3 community, we are pleased to announce that Online Storage for Game Saves will be available to PlayStation Plus members from tomorrow, 10 March, allowing you to store your game saves for peace of mind and easy access from any PlayStation 3 system in the world.
After downloading PS3 System Software Update 3.60, Plus members will have access to 150MB of space and will be able to store up to 1000 PS3 game saves.
To do so, simply highlight the game save you want to store in the [Saved Data Utility (PS3)], press the triangle button to bring up the options, select “copy” and then select “Online Storage” as the destination. In turn, you can access your Online Storage list via [Saved Data Utility (PS3)] when signed into PlayStation Network on a friend’s PS3 and download your stored game saves to carry on your game from where you left off.
If the developer has chosen to implement copy protection on their game saves, you can still copy those files to Online Storage but there will be a 24 hour period, after each save, before you can then download them on any PS3.
Hopefully that tells you everything you need to know about this new, much requested service. If you do need any more information, the official PlayStation forums have posted a guide, and ask us in the comments as always.

Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:34 pm by teflon6678
Hell yeah!
Damned awesome update, first thing I’ll be doing is going through and backing up all the saves to those games I’ve just finished.
Only thing that could improve this would be to tie this in with the Auto-Download feature, so that it’ll go through and auto-backup any changed save files for you.
Keep up the good work guys.
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:43 pm by James Thorpe
Thanks, I will pass this suggestion on as we are hopeful they will be able to update this feature. Can’t promise though

Quick question, will this change how we login to PSN? Will I be able to go to a friends house, log in, load up my save and play or will I have to make an account on his PS3 etc.?
I am on PS3 three so running out of activations!
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:46 pm by James Thorpe
Hi, as long as you are just logging in to PSN on your friends PS3 then it won’t effect your activations. This will only happen if you then startdownloading things on your account on his machine.
Cheers

Absolutely brilliant, plus does really get better as it goes on.
Bit late for the ones I lost due to previous ylod’s but ah well.
Does this include ps2 and ps1 memory card data?
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:49 pm by James Thorpe
Hi sorry its was a little late for you! It only covers PS3 game saves, not PS1 and 2

nice, i got a cheap second ps3 recently and i use that in the bedroom, transferring saves when i want to play a game in bed, don’t pretend like you wouldn’t like to do that, has always been a bit of an annoyance.
now i can play in the bedroom finish, upload the save then download in the living room and continue playing, certainly getting great value for my plus sub now.
it would be nice if everybody could use this but i can understand why it’s restricted to plus subscribers.

Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:41 pm by shaolinsword
I guess I better renew my sub then
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:53 pm by James Thorpe
haha, that’s what i like to hear!

Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:42 pm by Andrefpvs
YES! I will never have to worry about YLOD again! You should have done this years ago, but alas, it’s still good news!
Please consider extending the 150mb limit, because some games force audio files into the save file, bumping their size by quite a lot.

So in otherwords, renew or lose your ****, well planned sony, your bound to get a few renewals because of it, but it certainly isnt what most people want!! Cross game chat is likely still top of the list, well after this, the new (forced, non deletable) icons on the xmb and the facebook intergration seen in earlier updates.
24
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:43 pm by Zoibie
Awesome. Might consider getting PS+ now, only thing keeping me back is that free games expire if you don’t renew immediately for EU + users.

Oh my God!!! Thank you guys
An AMAZING feature
Can’t wait
:)
26
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:45 pm by mixindave
not that i want it, but i think the demand for cross chat was higher. why dont sony just let people know they cant implement it.
27
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:45 pm by Xenostar
If you could combine save syncing and trophy syncing as an automatic process which happened when you told your ps3 to turn off via the pad that would be fantastic, a slight delay in it turning off for peace of mind against losing stuff to YLOD like i have twice would be amazing.
28
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:46 pm by Andrefpvs
Hey James, is there also a possibility for you to set us up an auto-backup feature?
For example, when the PS3 turns itself on for Auto Downloading patches and demos from Plus, it could also upload our last 10 save files or something like that.
It would be VERY convenient.
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:55 pm by James Thorpe
Something we will def be looking into for the next update of the feature

Brilliant stuff guys.
So awkward copying backwards and forwards with 2 PS3s
Anything else in 3.60?
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:58 pm by James Thorpe
Glad it will help. this is the main feature of 3.6
30
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:47 pm by Ti_dus
But do we have to press triangle on each single save and copy it? Won’t there by any “copy all” option?
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:58 pm by James Thorpe
something we will look into for the next update

Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:48 pm by Silent_Gig
Will it take data like Demons Souls?
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:59 pm by James Thorpe
any PS3 game save data up to the limit of 150M
33
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:49 pm by Skookie30
Ahh Yes it does have 3.60 update kotaku was right after all Kudos James.T my FF13 save before it was corupted was kb not MB so i take it the 150mb limit is a few different saves i can live with that.

According to a Tweet my MusterBuster, some PS3 saves can’t be backed up using this feature – “it depends on the devs”.
http://twitter.com/#!/MusterBuster/status/45540291482107904
In which case, while this is a nice feature, it still doesn’t solve the issue of how to back up individual locked saves.
Also, it would be nice if this feature was made available separately at a reduced rate, for those of us who don’t want the rest of the Plus features.
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 6:02 pm by James Thorpe
There are currently no PS3 games (unless a save is over 150MB) that can’t be stored on here. If the dev has chosen the copy protected then there is just the 24hr period before you can access the save.

nothing we can do about that i’m afraid
43
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:59 pm by lowrider007
So how does this work?
Games will save automatically to the cloud or to the HDD first and then be backed up to the cloud or both?
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 6:05 pm by James Thorpe
Please see the guide you can link to in the post, or there will be a Q&A on PS.com from tomorrow
44
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 5:59 pm by somethingatt
It better work with protected saves. C’mon it’s tied to our PSN account.
Pretty pointless if it doesn’t work with Protected Saves (as those are the main reasons you can’t upgrade HDD without having to backup the whole PS3).
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 6:06 pm by James Thorpe
you can, there is just a 24hr period b4 you can access the save
45

Thanks, really good feature that i have been waiting for since the first rumors of PS+ was on kotaku,
(totally unrelated) anyone know where in europe you can get the Hero Edition of inFamous 2, seems like no one anywhere in Europe have seen any info, but yes this was very unrelated but if anyone reads it and got any information just reply with my name or something.

Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 6:00 pm by ShadowDoGGG
Btw for PS Store.
PLEASE IMPLEMENT THIS.
Using the triangle button to do ‘Add to cart.’ It is annoying have to do multiple screens when that makes more sense
49
Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 6:00 pm by Paranoimia
I personally have no interest in it, but it would have been nicely ironic if cross-game chat had arrived with the firmware numbered 3.60 would it not?

Posted on 9 March, 2011 at 6:02 pm by ShadowDoGGG
@Paranoimia Well your not a ps+ member so I can you have no choice?
