Hi Everyone,
We had a great response to our Resistance 3 Get in the Game competition. Thank you so much for all of your entries. The standard was fantastic, and it was great to see you all giving it a go! There were also a few questionable entries of which we won’t go into; suffice to say, we’ve seen our fair share of nipples for one week.
So, here are the finalists, we did intend to have 10, but we just couldn’t narrow it down any further, so here are the top 13 entries, in no particular order:
Victor van Wetten, Germany
Caitlin Fisher, Australia
Dale Raddington, UK
James Peacock, Australia
Merlin Hess, Germany
Alexander Davies, UK[>
Martyna Porozynska, Poland
Andreas Garske, Germany
Darren Campbell, UK
Konstantinos Vouloutidis, Greece
Max Ivantschitz, Austria
Hal Dimond, UK
Aurelien Lejeune, France
We look forward to announcing the two winners within the next week; I can’t wait for you to join me in San Diego to be head scanned ready to appear in Resistance 3!

I vote for Victor.
Who put Dale Raddington, UK, in that list. He by far is the worst of a bad bunch.

PS- Darren Campbell’s would have be excellent but for the daft pose which isn’t in keeping with the scene.

Hi Victor, well done on getting this far! Why don’t you tell everyone how you created such a cool image? You’ve had some great comments about it

Haha, why not. I took the photo at a location called “Innerer Nordbahnhof” in Stuttgart, it’s a very rough and dirty place, perfectly fitting in the whole Resistance-atmosphere. We took over 50 photos, choosing the best afterwards.
Then it was all digital postproduction. I spent hours finding screenshots of the game, looking for Chimera in the perfect position and yeah, after 4 hours of editing it was finished.

First i wanna say congratulations to all the finalists, there are some fantastic pictures. My favorites are Victor van Wetten because the color scheme fits perfect with the resistance games, the other picture i like is Aurelien Lejeune because it hasn’t been edited with a photo program and the spoons are a genius touch

I know we don’t get a say in it but if Martyna Porozynska doesn’t win I’d be very disappointed.

There are some great photos here such as Martyna & Hal, but at the same time letting something as lazy and terrible as Konstantinos entry get through is an insult to people who really tried and made an effort. Bad judgment.

Victor’s and Hal’s are the best, Martyna’s is interesting too. But I think I like Hal’s the best as it shows the oncoming dread and personal nature of the fight in Resistance 3.

Victor, Mainly because of the background that looks awesome. Also Hal’s looks pretty decent to. Can’t wait to find out who wins!

Davies’ or Porozynska’s have my vote. I like Porozunska’s better, but that’s because it looks like an old picture, and I’m a sucker for that.

Why haven’t you included the 1000 character explanation all participants had to write as to why they should be in the game? If we saw those it might explain why you let some pretty bad photos through to the final.

Posted on 12 March, 2011 at 3:12 pm by xxSamuraiGirlxx
ia with 36…idgi…you couldn’t narrow it down to 10, but you kept in dale and that guy with the spoons?! LMAO
anyways my vote would be for Victor van Wetten.
i like Alexander Davies’ pic too.

Wow, fantastic finalists.
I vote Darren Campbell.
I think he’s really captured the essence of the game. I’m really drawn into the detail of the image. Excellent.

Im disappointed in the quality of some of the chosen finalists. Victor, alexander& Martyna’s are great. I wasn’t aware you were allowed to photoshop. I thought all the work i put into my real scene would have paid off: http://www.seanmurphy.ie/comp.jpg

I was very disappointed at the quality of some submissions. The winner (Victor van Wetten) deserved it though.
Here are two of the photos I was considering submitting. The one the link takes you to directly is the one I gave and the other is just another photo I took.

You’re totally right Primsurf. The competition was about using accessories, not only cut his head on a game’s screenshot.
That’s what i thought too. i even made an “accessories budget” so it can looks the best.

Its good to see that I am not the only one as there seems to a few confused/disheartened individuals due to the quality of the shortlisted european entries, many of which do not even meet the selection criteria.
I wasn’t aware the competition allowed entrants to heavily modify photos using photoshop as it asked for “use of props”..”scenery/set”. If I had known that I could have created digital masterpiece with a lot less travel time, borrowing props from friends & heavy lifting (: as I am pritty good with photoshop.
I tried to play by the rules and I thought you could see all the work & detail I put into my scene. Every item in my survivor scene is authentic and most come from 1950′s – 60′s and 70′s.
Anyway, Hope the winner has a great time!!!

So, one week ago, Sony contacted me that we won.
But unfortunately, me and my teammate, Adonis who would have been my guest on this travel, we put the wrong name in the box when we sent the picture.
We did not know it was a mistake, we had no doubts about that. We made this picture in teamwork, but my teammate is seen in the photo and so we should have entered his name.
So today, after everything was settled, the flight planned, money changed etc., we got a message that we are diqualified, just because of this little mistake.
Sony seems to have no mercy in this point, we tried to convince them, but we didn’t receive an email back.
That’s how it is, we won’t fly to San Diego, although we made one of the best pictures and Insomniac picked us, just because of this stupid mistake.
So I learned that I should read the terms more carefully in future and think about them, even if I am so happy that I can send in my work after days of editing and it’s hard to think at all.
I also learned that Sony has no mercy with such little mistakes and plays strictly by the rules.
I congratulate the other winner, Hal Dimond, and hope he will have fun on this great travel.
Thank you Sony for having no mercy.
