I’m sure at the moment you are knee-deep in the Yakuza 4 story, so I’ll keep this fairly brief; I’m just here to post the winning entries for our recent ‘Like A Dragon’ competition then I’ll be on my way.
Firstly, I want to thank everyone who made the effort to take part, it certainly was fun looking through all the entries…though I was personally upset there were no dried macaroni pictures. Never mind, maybe next time.
We have three winners altogether, two runners-up and a grand prize winner, and those entries and the prizes they have won are listed below:
RUNNERS-UP
(Each win a limited Kuro Edition steelbook along with the Ichiban box, normally only available in Australia, which contains a variety of other goodies such as a Yakuza bowl and chopsticks set)
Chris Wray
Chris’s entry was designed with simplicity in mind, and the fire effect really stands out against the black background, this has since been dubbed ‘firepants’ in the office, and we think Chris produced a really nice design.
Gurpreet Bathoa
Gurpreet designed both a poster and wallpaper, and whilst I’m sure you will appreciate how the iconic PlayStation face buttons were used in the poster design, we also loved that Kazuma’s tattoo made its way into the design too.
WINNER
(Who receives a Yakuza licensed Japanese zip up sweatshirt, as well as the Kuro Edition steelbook and Ichiban box)
MP Ritvola
Whilst we saw some really strong designs, we were very impressed with this entry… taking cues from the brawling nature of the Yakuza series, we see here an arcade stick given a new lease of life courtesy of that tattoo design again. We loved how two iconic images have collided to create such a great piece of design; especially a design which allows you to dish out some damage too (in the game world only… obviously)!
Again, congratulations to the winners, and for those of you who have yet to experience Yakuza 4 for yourself, don’t forget the game is out now.

“brawling nature” … come on.. talk about cutting the legs off a game..
Posted on 23 March, 2011 at 8:24 am by Mike Kebby
Well obviously the series offers SO much more of course…but the link between the arcade stick and the fighting parts of the game were too good to ignore

Thanks Phil_E, I created the wallpaper on Adobe Illustrator. Took a while tracing the Dragon of Dojima. I also like the arcade stick design and Kiryu poster. Well done to everyone. I was thinking of a skateboard, snowboard design along with a PS3 theme but tracing the dragon took time.

Would be great to see some low-grade remakes of Rock n Roll racing, Road Rash and Desert Strike.. keeping it real y’know. Or are these already available for PS3?

Hah, wow, I didn’t know it was going to be posted on here too. I should really check the PS Blog more.
I’m still honestly surprised I even got a runner up prize. But, my philosophy is simple now, if all else fails – Firepants!
