‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update 6th April 2011

060411

Hello all, welcome to another ‘Heads-Up’date – I am speaking to you from beyond the Internet today as I’m out hobnobbing with bigwigs (but not the small wigs…) but I will not forget you and I will come back and do some comments before the week is out.

Rather than talk about the content too much this week, I need to mentally prepare you for the new Store sections we have coming in. Here’s a quick run-down on what you’ll find when you hit the Store this afternoon.

  • Demos are now a top level category, where you’ll find the latest BD demos and trials for PSN titles, as well as an organised A-Z list
  • We’ve added a Franchises section – in here we’ll be building up a library of games, DLC, themes and all the rest which can be browsed by a whole franchise – so now there’s one place to visit to get all the KillZone, Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed content you’re looking for
  • We’ve added a Charts section, with the top 10 most downloaded games, demos, minis and more, so you can find the most popular content more easily
  • We’ve pulled Themes and Avatars out to the top level so you can more easily find what you need to customise your PS3 experience
  • A more organised PlayStation Plus area, with sub-categories and new informative banners
  • A number of cosmetic configuration changes (ooh exciting!)

So yeah – let us know what you think of all the planning and hard work! Give it a chance and we think it’ll really help you find what you’re looking for on the Store.

So a quick rundown of the content – Red Faction Battlegrounds and Dungeon Hunter Alliance both hit the Store this week (Red Faction is 100% discounted for Plus users, with a healthy 25% off DH:A as well).

The KillZone 3 Steel Rain pack comes to you as well bringing new maps for you to run around shooting at each other. Quite the bargain for €4.99 – unless you’re a Plus subscriber in which case you get it for €0.00 – that’s a better deal in my opinion.

No Plus? No problem… the SOCOM Special Forces Multiplayer Beta hits the main Store this week and will be around until next week. If you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on this tactical squad shooter yet – you’ll get to experience two multiplayer levels, has full stereoscropic 3D and Move with Sharpshooter support. Not bad! If you find yourself having a good time, 20th April will see SOCOM: SF released across mainland Europe.

Lots more besides, so check out the full list below. No comments today but I’ll definitely check back on Thurs…WHAT THE HECK?! CAPCOM AVATARS?! Has the world gone MAD?!

Bye all!

Hello, any news about Castlevania DLC?

Coody-Baroody 6 April, 2011 @ 1:15 pm   5

Death in pants you really do need to get a life mate. you must wait for this update every week just so you can be FIRST! so sad mate.

sephiroth180 6 April, 2011 @ 1:15 pm   6

Is the PSN down can’t sign in?

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:15 pm   9

Castlevania? The next game in the series will be out before that DLC hits.

ArsenalMark 6 April, 2011 @ 1:15 pm   10

Sigh, another week, no Ridge Racer Type 4.

@4:

Neither can I

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:17 pm   14

Need to do something when I’m not playing with my Nintendo 3DS!

Opt1mus76 6 April, 2011 @ 1:17 pm   15

@2 – D’oh! Lol!
Not bad update, Ross. Better for those that have Plus. KZ3 maps and Red Faction Battlegrounds would cost as much as 3 months subs. Not too much else for me this week but KZ3 maps will keep me busy anyway ;)

StevenHibs 6 April, 2011 @ 1:17 pm   16

Is episode 2 of Back to the Future out next week yes!?

Saber_IV 6 April, 2011 @ 1:18 pm   17

Bodachi 6 April, 2011 @ 1:19 pm   21

Hey Ross, looks like a lot to play this week. Can you look into getting Crisis Core on the Playstation Store. Would really like to start playing it again.

almighty-slayer 6 April, 2011 @ 1:19 pm   22

Redesigned so we have to click through extra icons to get to what we want, wonderful.

Nothing for me to buy today, just Plus stuff.

Carnivius_Prime 6 April, 2011 @ 1:20 pm   23

When’s Rush ‘N Attack due for the Eu store. The demo on the US store is very entertaining.

I’ll take the Stacking DLC cos I bloody loved that game. I’ll grab a Darkstalkers avatar too.

and yeah PSN is down for me too. Any official reason?

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:20 pm   24

And you were commenting on pointless posts?

fifeldor 6 April, 2011 @ 1:20 pm   25

Hey Ross, a couple of questions:

1) I can not see Crash Bandicoot 2 on PSN. A few weeks ago a user from Croatia mentioned this as well, but it’s still not available here.

2) Is there ever a chance that PS3 will ever be able to play PS2 games? I do not know whether it’s a simple software (a release of some patch) or a hardware (the disc reader on PS3) issue, but is it ever possible or should we expect PS4, to use our PS2 games again?

3) Syphon Filter 2? How come 1 and 3 are available and not this one?

OK, that’s all Take care man, and keep it up.

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:21 pm   26

Dievice, dievice. I have a small dievice.

Spider-jam 6 April, 2011 @ 1:21 pm   27

No Casltevania still? Whhhhhy :(

I can’t seem to sign in to? It says – error code ’80710092′
Hmm, i hope it is not those idiot hackers messing about because if they do spoil my gaming there will be a real WAR coming for them :-/

Anyway cool update;)

AaronSOLDIER 6 April, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   29

@21 I second that, I think everyone will.

Coody-Baroody 6 April, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   30

i never mentioned pointless posts mate. i said your here every single week with FIRST! just find it a bit……..well you know……’Like a Virgin!’

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   31

Like a virgin dievice?

fifeldor 6 April, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   32

And how come the Killzone 3 add-on isn’t available here? Now that’s a new… :-D

PuRpLeDuCk 6 April, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   33

Dungeon Hunter and KZ3 pack, sweet!

And there is still a pricing error in the Scandinavian stores. NFS Triplepack is priced alot higher than it should. A fix would be nice. Ty :)

Coody-Baroody 6 April, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   34

lol. well said mate, well said. i noticed that typo too. nice one. LMFAO

i can’t sign in as well what the hell of all days????

MrChrisNo1 6 April, 2011 @ 1:25 pm   36

What about the Pink Castle Crasher? Is there any news? :)

Otherwise another brilliant update. I’m so happy I’m going to go have a sandwich.

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:25 pm   37

At least you know it was light hearted.

Serious post. Castlevania DLC? Any update? I fear the PS4 will be out before this is read.

Death-In-Pants 6 April, 2011 @ 1:25 pm   38

MrLopes 6 April, 2011 @ 1:27 pm   39

I think anonymous is @ work..!! they threatened to bring down the store and sites and it seems that certain areas of the site are down.

Just got the message store.playstation.com takes to long to answer.
so no replies from the store address..

Thank you for the update. It is great news about the $1.3m so far for the Japanese Aid Fund I can only hope that that it gets a lot higher.

Paul_John-- 6 April, 2011 @ 1:27 pm   41

whats with the MAG as last time a checked you could buy it for 12 uk pounds and now its 25 uk pounds thats a rip of but at least i can play socom till i get it pre owned soon

Carmanen 6 April, 2011 @ 1:27 pm   42

Nice, Gods Eater Burst for me! But hey Ross, where’s Tomb Raider II? I remember you said that the middle ones are also on their way when TR Chronicles was released on EU PSN. Is there some problems with TR2 emulation or is it on its way already? I know, i know… …i should ask Square Enix about this but can you at least tell us if it’s coming or not?

Coody-Baroody 6 April, 2011 @ 1:28 pm   44

Anyone wondering about the Castlevania dlc? We have our friends over at Shoebox Live to thank for the delay.

http://www.gamingunion.net/news/castlevania-dlc-delayed-because-of-xbox-live-issue–4519.html

AlexPSN89 6 April, 2011 @ 1:29 pm   45

@ Ross:

Hiya there Ross! How’s it going? Let’s skip the formalities… I have a few rapid-fire questions for you!

1) You said that re-releasing any Spyro title in Europe would be a nightmare. Has any progress been made or the situation is still the same?

2) There aren’t any DLC for Dissidia Duodecim yet. Of course, the game’s been out for only, like, two weeks, but when will the first DLC be available in Europe, if you can say something?

3) Still about Dissidia DLC, I’d like to know if the current announcement of a Kingdom Hearts costume for Sephiroth means that Europe will be, at last, included with both that and Cloud’s KH attire. Do you know anything about this too? And if you don’t, can you ask Square?

Please remember that everything I’ve mentioned is something I’m more-than-willing to pay for, and, as far as I know, that’s as much as the PSP Store allows me to donate for the “Japan Tsunami Appeal”. Yes, putting it this way is a bit of a “do-ut-des” (Latin for “I give if you give” for those curious) approach, but I hope this hasn’t come off as either insensitive or anything.

Hope you can answer these questions! Keep doing your best! :)

xchris2008x 6 April, 2011 @ 1:29 pm   46

wow they listened to me about the blue toad avatars :D

blue toad avis, bttf 2,sonic 2 and Dungeon Hunter: Alliance for me this week, theres just 1 big problem i cant get on psn at all

Querdenker 6 April, 2011 @ 1:32 pm   47

Are there really no demos of the three new full games (PS3)? So you expect us to stuff money into things which we weren’t able to try before? And I guess I won’t get any money back in case I didn’t like a game.

Death_Seaker3000 6 April, 2011 @ 1:34 pm   48

@29
