Digital Comics Store Update (20th April 2011)

Blog Post 2011-04-18

Hello hello! Hope you are all fine and ready for this week’s comics update.

Let’s start with a quality addition to our Batman range, in the form of the first two issues of 1989 series Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight. In part 1 and 2 of the 5-part “Shaman” storyline, Bruce Wayne meets a tribal shaman who influences his life forever while mountain climbing in his days before becoming Batman. Returning to Gotham City, Bruce takes up the cowl and meets Leslie Thompkins before experiencing a major tragedy.

Rumour is our next character could destroy Iron Man’s armour with his bare hands, and that he commands superhuman martial arts abilities… Meet chilling superbaddie Mandarin in Invincible Iron Man Annual (2010). The Mandarin is a collection of lies, stories, myths, and legends – is he really a violent street crook born in a brothel? The scion of an aristocratic dynasty? Was his father a petty criminal or an ambassador? Was his mother a British noblewoman, or maybe a dragon-chasing wastrel lost in the underbelly of the world? Find out here.

While Transformers 3: Movie Prequel continues with Rising Storm #3, brand new series Transformers: Heart of Darkness also starts this week. Galvatron is on the move! With the mystery surrounding Gorlam Prime still unsolved, Cyclonus and Scourge are tasked with helping raise an army… But for what purpose?

Xenostar 20 April, 2011 @ 3:44 pm   2

I love digital comics but haven’t bought many yet, because i would like to be able to access them on more devices, are there plans to ever bring them to PS3, NGP, Android, IPhone, most importantly PC? I want to know i will be able to view these comics in a player for ever!

    Pauline Martyn 20 April, 2011 @ 3:50 pm

Very, very valid point you’re making here. I have no concrete info/confirmation for now, unfortunately, but we’re trying to see what can be done so hopefully we’ll have news soon.

    Pauline Martyn 20 April, 2011 @ 3:52 pm

No news on this… But we hear you, and I certainly hope that we can indeed make it happen! The comics also have a nice resolution so they’d look great through the PS3.

The information on the homepage and Q&A in forum is still not changed.
I see that as lying when information that is wrong isnt changed even after you have been informed about it.

    Pauline Martyn 20 April, 2011 @ 4:44 pm

The Q&A should stay as it is because it’s information as we had it at the time (maybe an addendum can be slotted in though, let’s see). As for the website, the message is accurate (No Store Yet – not to say we will never ever launch in other territories, but it is not possible in the near future).

Still not avavible due to poor leadership in the Upper management.

The good old questions:
Release in Scandinavia/rest of EU?
Comics reader for PS3 (ofcourse this should only come AFTER rest of EU gets acces to the store).
And Crossregion gifting?

Rising Storm is good but Heart of Darkness has some of the worst ‘art’ I’ve ever seen in a Transformers comic… or any comic really. Dude cannot draw.

Hm, no new Doctor Who this week. New series only a few days away though and as excited as I am about that I’m still upset about the passing of Lis Sladen.

yay, comics.

bet you didn’t know i was gonna say that. ^_^

nice update, and the stand, not read the books and i never got round to seeing the tv miniseries they made of it, so it’s nice to see a comic adaptation.
there is one question i do have about the series, and that is how many issues it will be in total.

on a related note i understand marvel produced a series of dark tower comics, i’d love to see those on the store.

    Pauline Martyn 20 April, 2011 @ 4:49 pm

    Hehe. ^_^

Thanks very much! We have 15 The Stand comics planned, which will be released gradually through this year.
Noted for Dark Tower, I’m going to investigate. ;-)

Ok so that is how you see it. Then i know but i dont agree with it.

Normally you update the info in a Q&A then it has changed. Or atleast mark it somehow that the information is no longer correct.

And it also feels like you have changed stance. Didnt the information say that you wouldnt open any more stores? And now you say that you may open more stores but nothing is decided.

Should we take that as you want to be spammed by all thoose that dont have store again. So you know that we still want it?

Or is it just a try to hide it and tell it in a softer way that you will never open in more countries?

    Pauline Martyn 21 April, 2011 @ 3:09 pm

I’ve asked if we could add something to the Q&A so hopefully this can be changed soon. The website was changed too so it’s not misleading for anybody (try the link you sent, it should be different now).
The stance is the same – I meant we don’t know what will happen in time (who knows if in the future we’ll be in a different position?), but this is misleading and only my wishful thinking, so to clarify the situation remains the same and there will be no more SCEE stores as per statement.

Toy_brain 20 April, 2011 @ 9:24 pm   9

Hi Pauline
Another decent update I see, and thanks for the reply last week about the ‘missing’ Hack / Slash comics. I guess it’s to be expected that a comic about serial killers, from a publisher called Devil’s Due, is going to be grazing the edges of acceptability here and there.

Though it does make me curious as to exactly what guideline/boundry it crossed. Violence doesn’t seem to be a problem (plenty of that in every 200AD prog), swearing? Well Kick Ass had plenty of cussin’ on offer, Boobies? I’ve seen a few of those in my comics too.

Are you allowed to say? Or will it forever be a mystery?

    Pauline Martyn 21 April, 2011 @ 12:31 pm

    Hi Toy_brain – you’re very welcome!
As for Hack/Slash, it slightly crossed the line on explicit content (it’s more explicit than the other comics we have on the service). I’m not sure I can go into toooo much detail after that. ;-)

@Pauline Martyn

let’s be honest for once and just say it’s never getting released for other region cause just look at all the other service’s no new one’s added for other countries and last year U.K got 3 extra service’s

    Pauline Martyn 21 April, 2011 @ 3:10 pm

The statement said that there will be no more SCEE stores, so that’s where we are now.
