Duke Nukem Forever: PS3 Details And Duke’s PlayStation Roots

Duke Nukem Forever for PS3

Not so long ago, the whole of gaming faced a terrible evil – a threat so grave that few knew of its true scope, a threat so intense that even fewer were capable fighting back. The greatest video game hero – Duke Nukem, our King- was on the verge of being lost forever.

A world without Duke Nukem wasn’t something I even wanted to consider. I know that because of my history with Duke that I’m not objective about it, but I also know I’m not the only one. In the interests of full disclosure, long before Gearbox was founded, long before we developed our games for Half-Life, long before we created new brands including Brothers in Arms and Borderlands, it was working with Duke Nukem at 3D Realms (with Gearbox co-founder Brian Martel) that launched my professional career as a game maker.

That’s why, when bad things started to happen and the future of Duke Nukem Forever was hanging in the balance, Gearbox got involved. How could we let Duke die? The world needs Duke Nukem. Duke Nukem is the Ultimate Alien Ass Kicker. Duke Nukem is the World’s Greatest Hero. Duke Nukem is legendary and unimaginably fascinating. We believe in this. This is a game people have been waiting over a decade for and it’s a game we all deserve to play for ourselves.

Mortal Kombat: How To Dominate With Kratos

Countries: , , , ,

If you watched our recent video Q&A with Ed Boon and Stig Asmussen, then you know that NetherRealm Studios and Sony Santa Monica Studios collaborated closely to ensure that God of War’s ultra-violent antihero was faithfully recreated for his highly anticipated (and PS3-exclusive) Mortal Kombat debut. Now that the shrink wrap is off the game, my hands-on play sessions have yielded some powerful tactics. First, a few observations:

PlayStation Home is proud to announce a brand new client update to the platform this week. Version 1.50 is available to download now and it gives our developers a suite of exciting new technology that enables them to create more sophisticated and realistic multiplayer gaming experiences for you. The technology updates include:

  • Real-time Multiplayer: Improved networking allows fast-action online multiplayer games to be created, such as first-person shooters and online racing games.
  • Physics: Developers now have improved access to the core elements of the Havok physics engine, resulting in more sophisticated and realistic gameplay.
  • Animation & Graphics: More control over animation and graphic settings means developers can create better looking games than ever before.

For your first taste of what 1.50 offers, head to the Audi Hub for a free apartment where you can play a new multiplayer game: the Audi S1 Sledge Multiplayer Game.

Moving on to this week’s content update, which is also available now, Lockwood has sent over the following to get us started:

Eufloria Takes Root On PSN

EnglishSelect a Language:

Countries: , , , ,

Hello friends, this is Rudolf Kremers from team Eufloria, and director of micro indie studio Omni Systems Limited. (Purveyors of exotic indie media from various locales and alchemically tailored to the needs of the discerning game player). Eufloria is our wondrous space exploration and conquest game, arriving on PSN very soon. The game is a real labour of love, and we worked hard to make it something special.

The Team
Our core team is actually just two people: Alex May (Programming) and myself (Design), with music and audio by Brian Grainger, aka Milieu, and with additional help from some lovely people: Mike Ttoouli, Alex Ashby and Dugan Jackson, who are helping us to put the finishing touches on the game.

It is an indie effort through and through, and we don’t even have a central office. Nonetheless we are perfectionists and are really trying to get some serious quality into the game.

Dyson to Eufloria
Eufloria has a very interesting history. For one thing it used to be called Dyson, which led to many jokes and enquiries about vacuum cleaners, but the name actually comes from one of the game’s inspirations, which is the work of Freeman Dyson, a theoretical physicist. (More on that later, before you get bored)…

Anyway, Eufloria first saw life as a freeware entry into the TIGSource Procedural Game Competition, after which an expanded version became an IGF 2009 finalist, competing among other things for the festival’s grand prize and the Direct2Drive innovation award. Since then, the game has undergone extensive development which led to a new incarnation as “Eufloria”, which saw a successful commercial release on various PC platforms, including Valve’s Steam network.

Digital Comics Store Update (20th April 2011)

Countries: , , , ,

Blog Post 2011-04-18

Hello hello! Hope you are all fine and ready for this week’s comics update.

Let’s start with a quality addition to our Batman range, in the form of the first two issues of 1989 series Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight. In part 1 and 2 of the 5-part “Shaman” storyline, Bruce Wayne meets a tribal shaman who influences his life forever while mountain climbing in his days before becoming Batman. Returning to Gotham City, Bruce takes up the cowl and meets Leslie Thompkins before experiencing a major tragedy.

Rumour is our next character could destroy Iron Man’s armour with his bare hands, and that he commands superhuman martial arts abilities… Meet chilling superbaddie Mandarin in Invincible Iron Man Annual (2010). The Mandarin is a collection of lies, stories, myths, and legends – is he really a violent street crook born in a brothel? The scion of an aristocratic dynasty? Was his father a petty criminal or an ambassador? Was his mother a British noblewoman, or maybe a dragon-chasing wastrel lost in the underbelly of the world? Find out here.

While Transformers 3: Movie Prequel continues with Rising Storm #3, brand new series Transformers: Heart of Darkness also starts this week. Galvatron is on the move! With the mystery surrounding Gorlam Prime still unsolved, Cyclonus and Scourge are tasked with helping raise an army… But for what purpose?
