Nice job, Kaz.
Not many execs would do this.

Lots has been said about giving people time for subs wasted on DC universe and PSN+, but what about firstplay? Some of us have 90 day rolling subs and basically had a large chunk of that wasted, but nothing has been said about it? I mean we recently lost a week when the store was down one wednesday and thus not updated, and now we’ve lost a lot more than that.

Sony deserves all this trouble because they still don’t want to make the PSN officially available for Morocco !
it’s all bad karma or perhaps the hackers were from Morocco and angry because Sony ignores their country.

Nice to see PSN back up and running. So is the SOE service back up and running too?

I almost thought Kaz was going to say “Welcome to Pearl Station”…
…but I don’t buy it Kaz. Nice try, but you’ve lost a customer. PS3 will be the first console I’ll ditch during its active life cycle since 1982.

Hello Kazuo Hirai,
Thank you for working hard to restore PSN services.
I have the latest software update but I cannot sign in because my username is 31 characters long and the PS3 is stopping me from entering any more after 30.
Any help would be greatly apprecicated.

Thank you Sony. Its great that your getting back up and running.
Dont understand why people seem so angry, Sony was attacked, and I know you can pay for some services, but its not a rip off live xbox live.
Looking forward to full service to be up and running.

I was forced to update my PS3 to 3.61 as soon as it was done i shut it down as i was leaving for a while. I come back with a movie and put it in now it will not boot disk stuck inside. Green light then 3 beeps and red flashing. Disk will not come out. Thanks SONY. Called support they say send it in for repair $120 please or $99 for a refurbished slim. What? Sounds like they want all Fat PS3 back and are doing anything to do so. Including bricking random systems after updates. I just rented the movie and I have to send my system back in to them to get the disk out, but no guarantee that i get the disk back. WHO THE HE** IS GOING TO PAY MY LATE FEE? SONY YOU NEED TO FIX THIS. Or as the SONY rep said, “Hey on the down low, just Google a tear down and get the disk out your self and do the YLOD fix” Ya nice one SONY.
I can’t believe Sony is going to get away with this. Well Back to PC games then. Sony sucks as bad as Microsoft’s XBOX now.
Comments all over the web starting today about Bricked systems after Updating. DON’T FAT PS3′s UPDATE ITS A SCAM. How can they force you to update and then Brick your system? I AM SO REPORTING YOU SONY
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 8:48 am by patate12
I just wanted to say I liked the video message.
almulder, I also have the fat PS3 (CECHA00) and the firmware update did nicely.
But I agree it’s terribly upsetting when crashing something while upgrading. :/

i updated my 40gb ps3 fat system with none of the problems you have noted, maybe it’s either just your system or indeed your system may have been faulty before you updated it.
now i have a few questions id like somone to help me with.
i plan to in the near future upgrade my ps3 to a slim but i registered my account on my fat 40gb console, is it possible for me to reregister on the new console or do/can i use the PC to change my password for use on the new console if i was to forget what my password was.
another question is about people who dont have ps plus subscriptions, do they also get 30 days free use of ps plus and any games recieved during those 30 days will they still be fully playable or would you need to continue subscribing to ps plus in order to continue playing them.
my last question is about the goodies, what are they and when will they be made available also when will the playstation store become available.

Thank you Sony for starting the PSN again, all PSN users are very happy for the PSN are back!!!

Thanks Mr Hirai for personally taking the time and effort to announce PSN’s return. You also have my condolences for the Japan Quake/Tsunami, it must have been hard working with that on your mind.
I hope that PSN won’t get attacked like this again.
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 10:43 am by Adiman423
Thanks Mr Hirai for that nice annoucement. However, I have a question. If I have not registered my PS3, but I have been on the PSN since October 2010, then will I still be eligible for the welcome back package?
Please reply soon,

@Grimex Anon did not hack PSN. Anon actually managed to Hack the PSN hacker, he is not from morroco. He is from the UK.
Anon got all of his details including his real name.

Thank you Kazuo Hirai, I was shock to see you giving us this news, But also Welcomed, Welcomed because I think you knew, you needed to make a appearance, I’d like to see more of you, because as a customer, It makes me feel more connected with the company,
Thanks for the update, and I hope to see more appearances from Kazuo Hirai, as it really shows the world that Playstation is not just a games console , but a network of people,

Thank you for the update. As far as I’m concerned this could of happened to any online service. It’s true that maybe there is more that could of been done to encrypt passwords and such but I still praise the Sony staff for the handling of this situation. The right choices (such as shutting down the servers) were made to prevent any further damage.
I’ll still continue to use the PlayStation network services for the foreseeable future.

Thank you for the news and thank all the persons involved who worked a lot and hard so we could enjoy this service again. I continue to think the Playstation Blog is a great way to communicate with the Playstation Network team.
Hope I get to nag James and Ross soon with those pesky questions and suggestions
They know this one too well “When will Xgame come to Europe, because US has it for months now” A true classic of the blog.

Dear Kazuo Hirai,
In addition to my previous comment I have discovered this.
Since this new update if you use the PS3 controller only, it will only allow you to type in 30 CHARACTERS into the signin ID box.
If you plug in a USB keyboard you can type in more.
Can you please rush out another update to fix this error?
That would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reporting this. I’ve requested it be looked into right away.

It is good to see Sony getting back to normal after all that hacker business. I have missed being able to use the services but I wouldn’t trade the few weeks down-time for xbox live anyday. Having been an owner of two unreliable xbox 360s (both of which exploded) I can say that I would rather put my faith in Sony than Microsoft were consoles are conserned.

Thank you for bring back the playstation network online and thank you for all your hard work, you have restore my life thank you for that.

For some reason that reminded me of some OCP thing from Robocop.
Cant you take out a PS + discounted protection plan for $44.99? Would be cheaper than the costs you posted.

I would rather be given £40 worth of psn credit then have psn+ to be fully honest along with a couple of free games and dlc content that you would normally pay for
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 4:15 pm by blazikenowen
actually to be honest I would rather have more credit on psn and free games and dlc for all the annoyance that I had from psn being killed off by psn I swear I even considered getting a failbox 360
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 4:22 pm by blazikenowen
sorry for a 3rd post but you cant merge these but yea Im not trying to be greedy or anythin or rude or ungrateful but to be honest I hate psn+ and everything about it especially the idea so yea thats why I would rather have what I said but tbh sony owes us alot more then a psn+ thing and maybe some free games if thats gonna be a full welcome back pack like alot of people say and if it is tbh it wouldnt be worth squat or even a very good apology pack or anythin like that one reason I say this especially about the psn+ factor is because in giving us 30 days of psn+ free its basically saying here have psn+ have a taste of it and hopefully enjoy it enough to decide that your going to pay for it and we get your money and be happy

Many Thanks for getting PSN up and running again Sony!!!!! ITS ZOMBIE KILLIN TIME!!!!!

sony owes you nothing, how can you be so greedy and ask for so much when you dont even have ps plus, as for the quite pathetic attempt at trolling and using flamebait on an official page if you did leave the playstation you wouldnt be missed, the only time the xbox 360 fails is in the eyes of sad pathetic fanboys so obsessed with console loyalty you have to lower and stoop to childish levels of inteligence and even then most kids are more mature about being competative with rival consoles.
when have you ever heard sony describe the 360 as “the xbox fail60″ ect lol your pathetic.
now for the rest of your comment like i said sony owes you nothing, you dont have ps plus (thats a fact) and your only arguments is about a question which hasnt been answered yet, as for the other parts of the welcome back pack you should be happy your getting somthing rather than nothing as psn is FREE (all you lost was 31 days of FREE online, so how much has it cost you £0 and you really think you deserve £40 psn credit lol).

hi i was wondering will console owners who do not have psn plus or any subscription service get the welcome back package and will there be compensation for our details being stolen?

i heard that playstation will be giving us the choice of downloading 2 of 5 games, for free of course, in a gesture of gratification of our patience over the past few weeks. is this true or is this just a rumour?
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 9:00 pm by wrn3
glad to see you guys never gave up while restoring the network. thanks for working so hard to give us what we wanted. one question, any idea when the store will be up and running? looking forward to seeing what game(s) we might be getting and getting a taster of psn+. thanks again sony for all your hard work
