Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and will be able to change your password when PSN services are restored in your country. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole region. The process has begun and some countries are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach you.
In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3′s firmware updated and change your password, both of which are required to get online.
Update: the phased restoration of certain PSN services has begun. We’ll let you know as each territory goes online via @PlayStationEU on twitter, at which point you will be able change your PSN password.

Today is phase one of PSN coming back online, which includes features such as online gaming. The store will be part of phase two, which will be a little longer I’m afraid. As soon as we know when we can bring it back online, we will let you know here on the blog.

Five days with no updates and suddenly PSN is up in time to recover (as much as it will) share prices by the end of the week. Surely it is no coincidence that since PSN was shut down it was always “almost up” on Wednesday eventing (after the market had closed), and there was either a “new attack” or “further difficulties” on Sunday night just early enough to make the final deadlines for the market forcasts for the next week. This shows more planning than the non-committal “press releases” posted on the PSN blog and planted in other various “news” sources.

…But enough complaining…. All I can say is there better be a thourough and open audit of what happened and when it did happen. Also Legally speaking, as I hold dual citizenship, ignoring pleas from congress and Parliament has become the norm and as some take issue with this, frankly Sony is big enough to get away with this. What is unacceptable is that Sony, after being compromised allowed users data to be handed over to yet another third party without the option to opt-out (believe me I tried). Although these financial services companies will have the spotlight rightly shown upon them and thus will do a serviceable job in protecting users, once that data is transferred to a new party the exposure grows exponentially. All I can ask at this point is can this not be rescinded and maybe ask for authorization first, and can Sony et. al. be more forthcoming with updates now that their house is somewhat in order? Thank you, and apologies for using a US account as this is all I can use at the moment and is where I am currently located.

Sony – I can’t sign in on my other account because the e-mail I put was a random e-mail. So please Sony is there another way I can sign in on my other account instead of having to use your e-mail onPC…. Plzz reply back!!! I tried making the e-mail I put but it was already in use.. If you call your local customer care centre, they will be able to resolve this for you. They are aware of similar issues, so should be able to help you.

Glad to see PSN back up, all updated now and I’ll hopefully be able to link my Steam account finally to get my PC/Mac version of Portal 2. Good timing too for me as the Gears of War 3 beta is ending, now I can go back to playing my preferred system.
