Now that certain PSN services have been restored and you’re once again enjoying online gaming, it seems a good time to confirm what is being offered as part of the Welcome Back programme.
Once we restore PlayStation Store, which will be just a little while longer, you will have the opportunity to claim your Welcome Back gifts. Please note that the Welcome Back programme is only available for those countries with access to PlayStation Store*.
All existing PlayStation Network members will be able to access the following from PlayStation Store*:
Two PS3 games from the following list:
- LittleBigPlanet
- Infamous*
- Wipeout HD/Fury
- Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
- Dead Nation*
For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:
- LittleBigPlanet PSP
- ModNation PSP
- Pursuit Force
- Killzone Liberation*
- 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*
- Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
- For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
- We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.
I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you.
You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.
- For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. Specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live. All existing PSN registrants have 30 days from when the welcome back programme goes live to redeem their content.
- For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games.
- For the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody’s Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.
- Access to the 30 days free PS Plus subscription is only available for those countries where PS Plus is offered. You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever.

Hi Nick,
1) Can you confirm if April’s Plus content and May’s plus content will be merged for the current plus subscribers so we can get our value from our subscription which should have been available to us. So,
Will we get a chance to download all the APRIL + planned MAY content before June’s content comes along ?
2) Will the 15 months for the price of 12 offer be extended ?
3) I thought all users would get 30 days music unlimited too
Thanks if you answer.

Yes you will be able to get acces to April’s content.

Instead of games that most people already own, could we get a feature like party chat for xbox where you can talk to your friends not depending what game your playing??

stop whining guys psn is a free service ,maybe a wallet credit could be an alternative for people who have all ? i think the games offered , although old are ok . can you at least say whether the store will return this week?

(reposting my last blog comment on here)
I don’t actually own any of the games on the list but I have never shown any interest in them…
But if that is most definitely the final list then I guess I will choose Infamous and Dead Nation (I don’t even like Infamous :/ )
(repost over)
I was wondering what you will do for people who own all 5? I would much rather just having £10 put in my PS wallet than buying any of the games. £10 isn’t too less and it isn’t too greedy to ask for, I think it would be a good alternative for two of those games. (which, hey, lets face it, are all lame and old)

No free games for me then, already had all those. Boo hoo… just PS Plus.

So did you look at all the titles you have available, think these are the ones most people who’ve owned a PS3 for a while are likely to have already purchased, and concluded it’ll cost the least amount of revenue?
If you’d have replaced Dead Nation with Killzone you’d have completely nailed it.

This must sound silly to someone right.. They must have thought thoroughly about this. “How can we make a gesture to our “loyal” (hate that term) customers and still not have to spend a single dime.
Please, Sony, take a look at the Xbox (1) Reward Pack. Which included two free (cased, not downloads ofc) and a second controller..

I am very dissappointed in the games you offer for the welcome back package.
It’s nothing welcoming about it at all, I feel shunned and rejected.
I own all of the five games I can choose from and have finished most of them.
Isn’t there any way you can offer alternatives instead of these old games?
Would love to see ModNation Racer as an for PS3 as well.
Being a loyal PS3 and PSN user is nothing that Sony rewards or welcomes…
Especially since many of these games already have been offered for free or at a discount to early PSN+ adopters.
Now I’ll go and cry myself to sleep…

when will we be able to download them?
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 11:07 pm by Nick Caplin
You’ll be able to download the games as soon as the store re-opens. We will update yo on the timeline for that as soon as we have some more information.

The list is okay, however Plus members got LittleBigPlanet and Wipeout HD when the service first started, leaving 3 games left which are InFamous; which was a highly rated game which alot of people brought, Ratchet & Clank: The Quest for Booty; this was a money filler for Insomniac and wasn’t very good as we might aswell buy either Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction or a Crack in Time.
The last game is the only game worth to download considering it didn’t get the best of sales but got good reviews.
I am grateful for the games, however I wished the PlayStation team made it more diverse as these are very common games that most people have, and for me it only leaves one game I don’t have and that is Dead Nation.
However, this list is good for people who don’t have PlayStation Plus.

This blows. I already have LittleBigPlanet and inFAMOUS, I played WipeOut at a friend’s house and it sucks.
I really don’t like Ratchet & Clank, so thank you. Not.

Awesome, i’m definitely getting inFamous and Dead Nation or Wipeout HD, not sure yet…
Thanks guys over at Sony, it’s clear that you have been working really hard all this time trying to get the network up and running! Here, have a congratulatory piece of cake!
(No, in this case the cake isn’t a lie.
)
Oh, and to all the people complaining, at least they are giving us something. Either take it or leave it! -.-

Most of those games have been offered via PS+ before, come on sony!
Why not LBP2 or MAG to name a couple. More recent and haven’t been offered free in the past.

Hello I saw on Kotaku the games you will be offering on Europe for the welcome back plan, and i dont think Im being compensated like the other costumers since i have owned 4 of the 5 games except for DeadNation, what will sony do about those users like me who own all of those games?
Like many users said it is better to give a certain amount of money to players and let them use it where they want or extend the list of games…it is really unfair if we users have the games already.
Please take care of this problem.Don’t Let us Downn SONY.

What a total waste of time. Those of us who have been loyal PS3 owners from day 1 like myself already own all those games. Sorry Sony nowhere near good enough for me. Where’s our identity theft program for us Europeans? That’s all I wanted, instead I get a load of old games I’ve owned since day one. Not impressed.
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 11:13 pm by Nick Caplin
The identity theft protection is still to come. We wil share info on that very soon.

I already own inFamous. I’ll be getting LBP, haven’t decided the second game yet.
Thanks Sony these are great titles!

@66 The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 10:25 pm by Rainbearer
Gee, thanks…. already own all of those except the fury-addon for wipeout.
To add insult to injury lbp was also a “gift” for subscribing to psn+ for a year.
How about changing that to “any two games in the store” for psn+ subs?

Great! I’ve got Dead Nation already so i’ll take LBP and inFamous
Thanks Sony!

You should just give us storecredits instead…

I share the disappointment of others in that as a loyal customer and early adopter I own all the content on offer already. I’ve easily poured a four figure sum into Sony’s coffers over the years, eager to take up their offerings early to show the company support and ensure that they have the knowledge that their efforts are appreciated.
I understand it’s very difficult to please everyone but I’m not going to simply complain like everyone else, it’s not going to help matters. Instead, I’ll make a suggestion. The freebies never much bothered me, I got time back on both my subscriptions so I certainly don’t feel robbed. However, a token gesture would still be appreciated. How about a small discount on my next purchase from the store? Something of this ilk would surely placate everyone who already owns the content on offer?

probably gonna choose lbp and infamous. are they for free or just heavily discounted

I personally feel this is a major kick in the teeth from Sony. Firstly all network access is killed for a month, leaving a lot of people fearing for their accounts and bank details, me being one of those people. They then dangle a carrot in front of us saying we’d be getting free games and other bits and bobs, only for them to offer us budget games which I’m sure a lot of people would agree that they have either them all or nearly all of them. Frankly the games offered are pitiful. There are a lot of other good games around that price bracket, couldn’t Sony offer us a wider choice of games to choose from? Personally I would have loved to have seen a couple of PS1 games or even some Final Fantasy stuff. This is some of the stuff I’d like, I’m sure others will have their own choices.
So come on Sony, you’re not really doing yourself any favours with this sad peace offering.
I was hoping to buy some games from the store before all this, now I won’t even bother. Even with all the security measures in place, if someone wants to attack Sony, they will. Someone has a grudge and I won’t be surprised if it happens again.

Also the fact u are doing nothing for the people who spend money in ur store in the 1st place. This welcome pack is discouraging me to come back as im getting nothing in return

I know it’s been asked but I think this is a real issue. What happens if you own them all? I own all on PS3 except dead nation which I’ve never even heard of and I own all except pursuit force on PSP, which I never really fancied. I assume these will be downloads meaning it wont be possible to sell on ones we already own, suppose I could get a few quid for the disc copies I have but considering Sony decided to risk the entire contents of all our bank accounts I was expecting more like one free game from current top ten or one of a new exclusive coming this year, pretty rubbish that our private data has been valued as a few quid for some old platinum range games. Thanks Sony, nice to know you care, why not just give a £20-30 PSN voucher code instead?

Shame that those of us who have been plus members since the start end up with a selection of games we have either already had or have had discounted heavily. Hope that we will see some decent goodies being dished out on the plus service to try and keep all the new members this month.

That sucks! I received my PS3 system on April 27th. So I like the rest of you I haven’t been able to use it online for several weeks. Got my PSN account as soon as it went back online, so I got one now. And you are telling me I don’t get any compensation?!

Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 10:26 pm by KylieDog
What a pile of crap, PS3 games that are both old and most of which have been on multiple discounts/completely free offers for PS+ users already so are already owned?
Serious, maybe someone somewhere at Sony didn’t think “You know what, we already gave these away free for PS+ users, plus these other games we already promoted the hell out of in discounts, maybe we should offer something they do not own?”
This is insulting.

Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 10:26 pm by jerryhat
Just when Sony needed to look generous they come out with a selection of offerings which actually cost themselves just about nothing. Old games from exclusive Sony-aligned companies, a month of a service which offers little when only used for a month and some extra days on Sony services like Qriocity.
It’s not enough. I’m disappointed.
