Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Mubi and Vidzone, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Visit eu.playstation.com/ps3psn for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Wednesday publishes were missed and rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar right where we left off, to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?
A: Sucker Punch is evaluating extending the inFAMOUS 2 beta, as well as expanding its scope. Stay tuned for more details here in the coming days.Q: Is anything special planned for the SOCOM: Special Forces multiplayer community?
A: Zipper will announce details on activities to re-engage fans of SOCOM: Special Forces who have patiently waited to play online.Q: How can I redeem the Welcome Back offer that was mentioned by Kazuo Hirai? What’s in it?
A: Hang tight – we’ll be announcing all the details soon.Q: When will the PlayStation.Blog start talking about games again?
A: Tomorrow! Thank you for bearing with us as our role changed over the past few weeks. James will be back tomorrow and will be talking games every day leading up to E3, which is just a few short weeks away.
If you’ve got a PSN-related question that remains to be answered, please ask below, and we’ll do our best to answer.

For the forth time I ask this, when will the Naughtydog forums be back online and working? They haven’t worked since PSN went down and as they are connected to PSN and you have to use your PSN account to log in, it must be connected.
I can’t get on them with my new password and neither can anyone else. Did you know of this and/or do you have any plans to try and fix them? It probably isn’t just the ND forums either.
Also thanks for getting psn back and im looking forward to the welcome back package!

Thanks for the update,
I asked on the last thread but had no response to it which was ignorant to be honest. Apart from not being able to play online the main issue was that everyones details were stolen.
You have said there is no signs of anyones stolen info being used yet, but they would have to be pretty stupid to use the stolen data straight away. You gave the U.S customers identity theft protection for a year and said you’d do the same for Europe. I’m in the U.K and want the same offer, when will you tell us the full details of this offer?
Thanks for getting us back online.

We will be sharing information with you about this very soon. We have just been finalising the scheme, which I’m sure yo can understand is very complicated due to the different countries we look after. I can promise you that we are going to offer an ID protection scheme in the UK that you will be able to sign up to.

Before the PSN went down, there was a spring sale going on; will that sale be extended now so we can take advantage of those discounted prices?

Great to have PSN back up but please consider more than free 30 days for PS+ users. That seemed reasonable 2 weeks ago but not after 2x days.

I only have one question to ask: I had over $20 or so in credit and I’m afraid it may be lost as a result of the attack. I have no way of telling if the credits are still there. What steps must I take should this be true. I also agree with other comments that giving affected members who credit card info and info in general were stolen, a month of free service just isn’t enough. I, myself, had to contact my bank and info them of what happen and was told to pay for their monitoring program for my checking, which is linked to my debit card. I feel 6 months to a year free service is in order.

thanks Nick for the update. Restoration of PSN definitely has relieved PS3 owners. And everyone would be waiting for its full restoration which will be sooner, I believe.
Question:
I want to ask that will the Welcome Back offer covers any specific region or country? Or it is for every PS3 owner worldwide?
Hoping to have your reply sooner.

You keep saying we’ll be hearing about the welcome pack soon and in traditional Sony fashion that soon keeps getting longer and longer :p so any idea on a time? then i can add 34 hours on lol and be happy xD
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 6:14 pm by Nick Caplin
Every time I try and give a time, something changes and we end up missing the deadline. So I’m going to avoid that mistake this time. All I can say is that we’re almost there, so it wont be much longer.

If I’d put my new Credit card number to your system – (I’ve reserved my OLD CC for safety)- now it’s safe for real?
Will Sony cover my costs regarding new credit card?
What about Redeem Codes? It looks like it works via PC browser. Will I receive my content on PS3 when i use Redeem Codes via PC(example for Mortal Kombat)??

I, for one, feel that a thank you is in order here for the updates concerning PSN/Qriociy services downtime and the events.
Sony done a damn lot more than any other company would do and it makes me happy I’m using a PS3 rather than Xbox. Welcome back package or not, I’m just happy to be back on PSN. <3
Hip! Hip!

Dear Nick & James.
I have a hotmail account and havent yet got the email. Out of frustration I have selcted forgotten password a few times and just got an error. 24 hours will be up in 30mins since the message said “an email has been sent to this account”. What happens then? Do I try again? I’m not sure it will work as at the moment all it says is error and gives an error code.
ADVICE please…….even if you say I have to wait a further 24 hours at least I will know.
Kind regards.
S.

That first comment should have also mentioned that I deleted my profile off my PS3 before the PSN went down. That’s why I have to reactivate my downloaded content.

I had my PS3 repaired (YLOD) while the PSN was down. When I got it back I couldn’t play any of the games I had purchased through the PSN Store. I got a message saying that the contend had “timed out” and that I should “Set the time via Internet”, which of course I couldn’t do since the PSN was under maintenance. Will I be able to fix this issue now that the PSN is back on, and since I changed my account password? I have purchased LOTS of games from PSN Store, and wouldn’t even want to think that I will lose them!

I requested an email to change my password over 24 hours ago now and it still hasn’t come. Checked my junk, everything. Had to make a new account just to post… I understand the ISPs are being slow or whatever, but should it really take this long or have I done something wrong?
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 6:16 pm by Nick Caplin
If it’s been longer than 24 ghours, I suggest you try again. Some ISPs are experiencing incredibly heavy traffic

hey hey
You keep talking about “phases” with phase 1 being getting back on line and getting passwords changed. . .
whats phase 2, 3, 4 . . . . etc and do you have a timetable of events ?
will you release this information ?
Posted on 16 May, 2011 at 6:17 pm by Nick Caplin
Phase two is getting the store back up and running. That is the next most important step.

What about people like me, from countries which do not have a store.
Will we be getting something as Welcome Back, or are we gonna be left behind as before?
It would be nice to give us the opportunity to, at least, activate our online codes, which before the outage wasn’t possible because “Playstation Store isn’t available in your country/region”.
Oooh, and I totally forgot: Welcome Back from Romania!

I will never leave PS3! It is the best console in the world! Good luck with restoring the system. I trust you Sony!!

Thank you for your hard work.
Are the servers which offer the game updates/patches (free & mandatory) tied to the PlayStation Store system? I’m still waiting for the update of the game BlazBlue: Continuum Shift.
Thanks again

I’ve one concern, why you don’t ever have a specific date for any planned thing, why you always user “soon”, “very soon”, “few days” and so on. I want to know exactly when will the welcome back details be published, and I want to know exactly when the PSN store be up and running? Please I need a professional reply that reflects Sony’s image.

Were trophies turned off at all during PSN outage?
Because I should have earned 1 for completing Dead Space: Ignition for completing ignition mode in less than 25 minutes (I did it in 12mins, but didn’t earn the trophy….)

To those whose countries don’t have access to the PS Store. If you want to change your password, don’t use the link provided in the e-mail Sony is sending out. It won’t let you change it, because the Store is not available for our region.
Instead, click on “Sign In” in the top right and use the password recovery. That’s how I got my password changed.
Also a question? What happens with the Welcome Back offer for users who live in countries that don’t have access to the Store?
Unfortunately I fear we will be pushed aside and forgotten since the “west” will get their compensation and will be all to happy to ignore those who won’t get compensated.

@Erob89: Since you must activate trough the Playstation Store, this is not possible until the Store will be re-launched. Patience is the key.
