Today we’re proud to reveal the Resistance 3 box art that you can hold in your hands when the game hits store shelves in September. You should recognize right away that this graphic version of the Chimeran Skull with the New York skyline depicted as its teeth, as well as the stylized version of the Resistance franchise logo, isn’t your typical “rendered hero” box art. To create this new look, we partnered with Olly Moss, a talented British artist, to create a bold vision of the Resistance 3 boxart for both the North American and European territories.
The Resistance team worked closely with Olly to share our vision for the Chimera-occupied 1957, and Joesph Capelli’s journey across the destroyed USA to his destination, New York City. You’ll see this in the alternate version of the art below, which shows Capelli walking towards the NYC skyline.
We wanted Olly’s work to reflect that in Resistance 3, YOU are the Resistance. Resistance 3 isn’t a military shooter, as the United States Army and SRPA have been destroyed. Instead, R3 is about the remnants of humanity finding any way possible to survive in a brutal world.
This work coincides with Olly’s first art show in Hollywood at the Gallery 1988 (which runs until May 20th, if you’re in the LA-area). We’re excited about the new look of the box art and expect to see additional Resistance 3 art by Olly throughout the campaign. You can find out more info about Olly, and see more of his fantastic art, by checking out www.ollymoss.com.
You may have also heard that we will be bringing exclusive early access to a nearly half-hour single-player demo straight to your PS3 on June 14th! The demo will be included on specially-marked Blu-ray Disc copies of the Sony Pictures sci-fi action thriller Battle: Los Angeles (which you may recall from the now memorable Resistance 3 billboard spotted on a Sony film set). The demo level is the entire boat ride sequence of the game, as Joseph Capelli and Dr. Malikov discover a flooded town, infested with Chimera. We hope when you play it, you’ll enjoy the small taste of the atmosphere, environmental story-telling and exciting action sequences you’ll see in the final version of Resistance 3 in September.
As we lead up to E3 and the game’s launch, there’s still more news to come, so keep it tuned to eu.playstation.com, our twitter page, Facebook and sign up to Join the Resistance for all the latest updates on Resistance 3.

Looking good!
Now don’t ruin it with a PSN/Move Circle!

@ James Stevenson:
Sorry for the little off-topic question, but I can’t help it – I’m just that worried: is there any possibility you at Insomniac could give Ross McGrath and the SCEE staff a hand in order to bring the Spyro trilogy back to the European PSN? The other two regions got each and every game while Europe is stuck with a fat zero.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for having gone – as mentioned – off-topic.

Brilliant design and cover – just don’t butcher it with logo’s, quotes and blurb.
The complete opposite of the recent Tomb Raider trilogy box art, which was a travesty of bad design, poor Photoshop and horrible layout.

On the US blog there was a post from James (of Insomniac) saying they may make the reverse of the cover clean (sans horrible logo’s and a really ugly Playstation Move sticker randomly slapped onto the art).
This is an awesome idea and one all publishers should think of doing it. Too often box art is ruined by having too much crap randomly slapped all over by some YTS Photoshop monkey.

Couldn’t afford to hire a real artist for the cover?

The Capelli version has a real “I Am Legend” feel to it.

I won this game when I got through to the MotorStorm Apocalypse finals. I am glad I am getting the promo so I don’t have to see this hideous artwork.
I want to play the Demo so I am really hoping the rental version of ‘Battle LA’ will have the Demo on it. The film isn’t bad just not worth the purchase.

Horrible cover. Totally cheap-looking shade of red. If it had been darker it might get away with it. It’s a shame as the “cityscape teeth” is a brilliant idea. I’d like to see a version in a darker red with the circle/triangle/x/square replacing the eyes. That would be cool.
I also agree with those saying the spine is boring. I do like a nice spine on my game boxes, depicting the game’s typeset rather than that generic font Sony have been using for PS3 games.
It needs work. I don’t think you’ll sell more for trying to be arty. I think it would sell more if it was amazing and exciting. That is NOT an exciting cover, I’m afraid. It’s clever. But not exciting.

Nice box. But I also would like to point out that please DON’T put multiplayer trophies in the game! I want to get the platinum by completing all single player trophies like the Uncharted series. That way is much better.

This is actually very nice. Breaking away from the always so darkish cases… Looking forward to the title as well…
