On 12 May 2011 the most famous film festival in the world began in France. Few members of the public actually get to attend each year, as this prestigious event focuses on industry and press rather than paying public. But this year MUBI has something special for you.
2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the beginning of one of the most exciting sections of the Festival de Cannes—Semaine de la Critique, also known as Critics’ Week. While the big-name glitz and glamour seems to happen in the Competition section of the festival, it’s really in this side program where the excitement is because Semaine is where discoveries are made. Auteurs are found at Critics’ Week—it’s often only later, once they are seen as masters, that they are screened in the Competition, and the list of now-famous directors who began in this section is astounding.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Semaine de la Critique, MUBI is partnering with the Festival de Cannes to bring to our VOD platform a large retrospective of films screened over the last 20 years in Critics’ Week. And with the support of Fundación MAPFRE FC4+1 Film Festival we are able to make each film we’re showing in the retrospective available for free for the first 1,000 views through June 30.
In this amazing program, you’ll find many names you already know making films before they were known. And you may just find some names you yourself will discover, names of filmmakers whose future is in your hands, waiting to be recognized and acclaimed.
To see what films from the retrospective are showing in your country, view the Semaine de la Critique du Festival du Cannes page in your PS3.
We’re helping bring Cannes online for all, and we hope you enjoy “attending.”

This may not be the place to post this but since the blog post with over 2500 comments has been ignored by you, is there any news on Sony offering an alternative welcome back package for the gamers that actually make them money and buy games on release for full price or are we getting the shaft?????????

this looks good
Any news on the playstation store Danny?
and i know when you bring the store online its going to be overloaded and crash and go offline again, and it will. so i was wondering is there a time limit on when you can claim the welcome back pack and PS+, and does PS+ start the day PSstore comes online? because im going to leave it be for a couple days so it allows the millions of people to crash it?
i dont really want to lose out because of it crashing

Danny is part of the MUBI team and therefore will not be able to answer questions around PlayStation Store. We don’t know exactly when it will be back online but will post as soon as we do.

@AnthonyDwyer
You can’t please everyone man.
I have all those games too. But if you have all the released games, what can they give you instead? Money in your wallet? That would cost hundreds of millions if they did that. Would you rather Sony’s gaming division went totally under? Or would you rather play games on your superior PS3?
Be happy PSN is back, And if there is nothing there for you, so be it, there will be plenty to have at when the store comes back and you get your PS+ Sub for a month.
On topic, this looks dead cool. thanks guys. I’ll be enjoying it!

@11 to be honest mate the only people they have tried to please are casual gamers, who probably pick up the majority of there collection out the bargain buckets or pre-owned section. I don’t agree with crediting peoples accounts but I do think a selection of 2 out of 10 games would show they where making an effort. If I had all 10 games I would shrug my shoulders and think well they tried, I obviously game to much
.
However I bought every game on that list on release date for full price, its gamers like me that keep Sony afloat, but what thanks do we get in the welcome back package? I paid full price for a PS3 on release £425 and also have a 2nd PS3, plus its gamers like me that don’t run off to the 360 when Sony craps on use due to brand loyalty, however where is loyalty shown for us?

Sony could have easily have put up:
MAG (I got it, but I would like a copy on my 2nd PS3 to play my brothers and friends when they visit)
Resistance 2 (same as above)
Socom confrontation (again same as above)
God of war collection (I never bought PS3 to Play PS2 games but I would have this no problem)
forbidden siren (I got it, but its underrated)
WarHawk (same as above)
The only game I have not got on my list is GOW collection, but I would have been happy with a second copy of some of them because of the multiplayer aspect.
What good is having a second copy of infamous and ratchet and clank? little big planet and dead nation are a bit rubbish in multiplayer because you all have to stay on the same screen anyway and I own more than 1 pad and we could both play it on the same console, so again a second copy is pointless. WipeOutHD is crap and i would not waste the bandwidth downloading it a second time.
If I wanted to have a useless service I could sign up to for a month, id get love film, at least they admit its a trial to entice you to sign up, unlike Sony with PSN+ (trust me, this move benefits Sony more that the gamers and your naive if you think otherwise)

I never said that PS+ didn’t benefit sony.
But, if sony load the PS+ store with the kind of content promised, you’ll be able to get shed loads without having to stay subscribed.
I also bought all those games on release day (except Dead Nation, looks like butt) and am also on my second PS3 having paid full price on release day.
what I’m trying to get across, which you are obviously missing, is that there was absolutely no way that they were going to please everyone. Of the list you added, I only don’t have resistance 2 and I wouldn’t touch it with the barge pole seeing as i thought the first one was pants!
So, 10 games, none I want, what should I get?
worse, by doing this, Sony have effectively killed the trade in/sell on price of any of the disc based games on the list. If i sell on my machine, I’ll get naff all for those games
I understand that you want to get something for being loyal, but looking at what we are getting, it’s pretty generous whether or not you want anything on that list.
hey, when the other console went offline for two weeks, users got one 400point game, that by all accounts was pants.
I would say we’re doing well mate, all things considered

I’m not missing your point mate, I know they can’t please everyone, but this choice does not even try. Even if resistance 2 was pants at least its a choice you have not already got.The choices available are pretty dire for anyone that is a true gamer. I would even settle for Haze and Lair because even though they are turd, I have not got them.
