This time last week I was travelling back from E3 and too airborne to put the recap post together. Therefore, this week it’s a bumper recap covering everything from the past fortnight. Not all of you have the time to be checking the blog regularly and E3 always provides a relentless stream of content, so rub your eyes over this list and you’ll more than likely find something you missed.
Now that the dust has settled, I’d be interested to hear what you thought of the blog coverage this year. We tried new things, and your feedback will be invaluable going into gamescom, which isn’t as far away as you’d think. Here’s your jumbo recap.

The stuff you cover on the blog is mainly ok, but I think your responses to comments is pretty crap.
I don;t care if someone has asked a question before, so long as it is on a different page you should answer it I feel.
More often than not when I come on this blog, i leave stressed out about something.
Posted on 20 June, 2011 at 10:02 am by James Gallagher
Please don’t get stressed – games and reading about them are supposed to be fun! If you readers feel that we need to respond to more comments then I’ll spend more time doing just that. I’m the only person working on this blog full-time so it’s not possible to respond to everyone – we get around 2,500 comments per week – and it’s a case of balancing my time between responding and actually gathering the content itself. I tend to focus on the latter, which is why this is one of the most frequently updated company blogs on the web.

Your stream of the conference was brilliant. Best one i could find. Very clear and loved the multiple cameras too. The mass of interviews afterwards were also awesome too. You had me checking the clock and staying up to watch them
. Really great job everyone involved.

as mentioned above, blog subject matter generally ok but response to comments absolutely woeful. even replies that do get posted are frequently wrong, misinformed or seemingly half hearted attempts with no real info. generally the people who post regularly on here seem more ‘in the loop’ with sony goings on than the blog staff, james if you could maybe cut your lunch break to 4 hours or so, you may find time to answer a few more posts.

Amen to the above.
I should also point out pricing issues on the store, they have been resolved now but still.
Beyond good and Evil is the more “famous” error, but the Dynasty Warriors 7 stuff was also at double price for about 2 weeks. I hope people are being refunded.

Another poor week for the PSN blog as a whole. Could someone from PSN tell us why the response rate to consumer queries has drastically dropped? It’s certainly not filling SONY customers with confidence after all that has happened in the last few months in regards to hacking personal data.
Have you not learned any lessons form this SONY?
I await your response…

Posting here as the “HeadsUp” comments are ignored.
I have a 1 year PS+ subscription from the beginning which is soon coming to an end. I have bought the 12+3 month top-up. Recent PS+ content that I have downloaded since buying the top-up has the correct expiration date on it (500+ days) while the old content is set to expire in a couple of weeks.
As PS+ has been running for nearly a year now I will assume that whoever has planned and developed the it has documented what will happen come the end of the 12 months, should make the answer to this question relatively easy to find.
My question is what will happen to the old content once it expires and what steps if any will I need to perform to continue using for example my near year old copy of “Destruction Derby”?
Is there something automatic in place to update expiration dates on the PS3 system, will I need to re-download a years worth of PS+ content again or is there something else that will happen?
This is not a question of stopping and resubscribing at a later date. This is a rolling subscription from day 1 which now expires in Dec 2012 but has content on the hard disk with varying expiration dates rather than the expected same date of Dec 2012.
Posted on 20 June, 2011 at 10:13 am by James Gallagher
I did read of someone having a similar issue on another thread. Have you tried redownloading Destruction Derby from the Store? If that doesn’t work, then please contact customer services on 0844 736 0595

Electronic Arts, what the hell, been loving shift 2 with my driving force gt wheel til i got to the drifting, what the hell. seriously you need to fix that now, man its horrible with a steering wheel in drifting. If you dont believe me google it, there are that many forums that say just use the controller its a trillion times easier. personally I dont now how it could of got past beta, obviously none of your testers used a wheel including your pro drift drivers, pathetic. horribly dissapointed, jonno.

Why is that half the people on this blog just whine and complain .. Hi James is there any chance you could find out if Insomniac are releasing a ps move trailer for resistance.
30
Posted on 18 June, 2011 at 11:09 pm by kingcrowbaruk
People whine and moan because frankly the behaviour of SCEE recently has been despicable.
Products that are promised are not delivered, see Modnation Racers PS3 promised 20th April 2011, no comment about it from SCEE since.
Features are promised and then pulled because you didn’t read the small print, (which may not even exist).
Click on the “Welcome Back” banner prominently shown at the top of this page “http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/05/16/details-of-the-welcome-back -programme-for-scee-users-2/” (when it’s not an ad for a Nissan) and show me where it states that 30 day free PS+ users will receive a significantly different PS+ from regular PS+ subscribers which Ross has claimed in this comment:
“http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/06/15/heads-up-game-sto re-update-15th-june-2011/comment-page-1/#comment-160624″
At least advertise that “http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/06/02/welcome-back-to-playstation -plus/” is the content you actually mean rather than using the handwavium of “communicated by Mr. Thorpe on the blog” without even a link, because what you are stating in that banner is fraud, deception, pick your synonym.
31
Posted on 18 June, 2011 at 11:09 pm by kingcrowbaruk
I will quote the comment here in the case the link fails:
Posted on 15 June, 2011 at 2:42 pm by Ross McGrath
I can understand your confusion but we have been completely transparent about that from the start.
Welcome Back Plus subscribers in SCEE will receive a specific set of content, which was listed on the portal and communicated by Mr. Thorpe on the blog. This is the content that the Welcome Back Plus users will receive regardless of when the Plus 30-day membership is redeemed, (ie; even if you redeem the 30-day membership on July 1st, you’ll still receive the specific Welcome Back Plus content).
That said, it’s hardly fair to call it Plus-lite – you’ve got yourself a great selection of high quality content with double the normal number of full PSN titles, one of which, the awesome Burnout Paradise, was a full Blu-Ray release as well!
We will in fact be adding to this content with some more goodies that will be available to the Welcome Back Plus subscribers as well as regular Plus subscribers and James Thorpe will be posting on that in his mid-month update.

i think the blog coverage was okay. some great inteviews with developers. While i’m aware it’s a predominantly SCEA show it would have been nice to see more EU blogs posters doing interviews with developers. I feel like i see more of the SCEA staff more than the SCEE staff and i think it would be nice to see a more balanced approach.
ie US memembers dont know who james gallagher is were as in EU/PAL everyone knows who Jeff Rubenstien is.
Did what i say make sense??? lol

Hello James or other PSN users…
Qriocity are offering 180days of FREE service and this really interests me. However, whenever i attempt to take said offer the screen keeps telling me that “connection to the server could not be established”
Is this offer not availible or is it just Qriocity not working!? If its the latter when will the offer end!?

My understanding is that the promotion is coming to Europe soon. I’m trying to confirm exactly when so I can get a post prepared.

E3 coverage was very good this year. Home coverage of the trailers was also very good. Gametrailers format with interview between the conferences might be something to look into.
As for Gamescom the last 2 years have been better for Sony than at E3.
2010 Resistance 3, Ratchet & Clank All 4 One and Mass Effect 3
2009 dynamic themes, PS3 slim, digital comic viewer and Video store for some countries.
I hope Sony’s Gamescom conference will be shown in Home and the Playstation Blog like at E3 this year.
I would like to seen more on Sly 4, The Last Guardian, Uncharted 3 and hopefully a few surprises.
Do you have any information on the conference yet like time, date or length?
