Hello everyone,
I am very pleased to confirm that US and Japanese PSone emulations are being prepared for release on the SCEE PlayStation Stores.
While I cannot yet confirm dates or any of the titles in process at this time, there are a few that are already in process and you will start to see them publishing in the future.
What does this mean for you, the consumers?
Here are the key points:
- Publishers who own the rights to release PSone titles that were previously only available in the US and/or Japan will now be able to apply to have them released on the SCEE PlayStation Stores (providing they are rated by the appropriate ratings boards for each territory).
- All titles will be published ‘as is’, with either English or Japanese language game content where available.
- All titles will run at 60 Hz and you will need a 60 Hz capable display to play them properly.
This also means that if a PAL version of a title has been unable to pass QA in SCEE, but the NTSC version is already available on the PlayStation Store in SCEA or SCEJ, we can look at publishing that version instead. We cannot simply take the US version and publish it immediately, as it has to be reprocessed for SCEE, but at least we know the title should already be relatively bug-free.
Please note: This does not mean we can publish titles that have not legally cleared for release in SCEE territories as a result of expired licenses, etc.
With this news in mind, we’d love to hear from you what titles you’d like to see available in Europe for the first time – make yourself heard in the comments and with the most requested titles we will speak to publishers on your behalf.
Have a great evening everyone.

Ok Ross. This one is for you guys. We’ll be waiting in the dark, ready to troll the forums anytime one of you steps out of line… Forget that. This is actually very good news. It was best if this wouldn’t only apply to psone titles, but to full psn (ps3 either) titles. Having region locked games out of your bussiness was the best choice Sony could have ever made (along with free online play), now having PSN region locked games out seems like the next logical step. We’ll be waiting for that, hopefully in the short future.

I’d love to see the fire pro wrestling series.

@Xenostar
The games are emulated and unaltered from the disc so there is no reason other than wanting you to buy an other copy

What a disappointment, i thought 2days announcement would be something to do with Sonys version of Summer Of Arcade. Instead its old PS1 games that look a mess on a hd tv and afew month old psn games ported from the xbox 360 with a premium price . What about scrapping PS1 and start PS2 Classics section? come on Sony its the middle of 2011 f. f.s not 2002.

As a PAL gamer, I’ve been waiting for years for the chance to play Chrono Cross. Please make this happen! Suikoden 1 and 2 sorely need to be on PSN as well, I just want to play them, not buy them as a collector’s piece.

uhmm…why not just just buy these games from the japanese or US store?
yesterday i’ve bought donpachi and dodonpachi from the JPN store…not perfect arcade ports, but enough for some fun with the PSP (yes, you can TATE! both games)…just a suggestion, considering the lack of shmup for PSP & PS3

A PS1 import section is nice but a PS3 import section would be nicer! More specifically Sony’s own highly rated MLB games that never see release here.

@Skookie30
a smart person would say first see it then believe it. he been saying that we getting them for a year now and we still on the waiting bench.
not 2 forget all those title´s that did have a pal release and still haven´t been released. and if all ps1 games aren´t compatible with vita just like current psp games.

Sorry slightly off topic but have the codes been sent out yet for the first 1000 people to buy Section 8: prejudice yet?
Posted on 1 August, 2011 at 3:49 pm by Ross McGrath
No, they will be a while yet I’m afraid, but if you were among the first 1000 to buy you will definitely receive one.

All this could have been avoided if the PS3 was simply backwards compatible, it’s a real shame that this now comes at the later stages of the PS3′s life…

I would love to see “sheep, dog’n'wolf” (also known as “Sheep raider”) on the Playstation, was my all-time favourite back from the old playstation since it had a really cartoony feeling to it and was a great game based on the adventures of Ralph E. Wolf.
Also, could it be possible to get the japaneses game “Ghost in the shell” from 1997?

Excellent! I’ve been drooling over all the imports appearing on US store, so anything would make me happy at this point. Rockmans would be greatly appreciated though.
Oh, and I’d absolutely love to have that bizarre ‘LSD’ game that appeared on Japan PSN nearly a year ago.. though it probably won’t ever reach our store as it never did for US, either. But hey, I can always dream.
