Yes, it’s the one-stop shop for Store Updates and Plus content information and we’ve got it all this week, folks.
Let’s talk Plus -
The new service update today bringing the firmware to 3.70 improves your Automatic Downloads service, renaming it Automatic Update. Automatic Update will now automatically sync selected save games to your cloud storage and will also automatically sync your trophies with the server each time auto update runs.
And what of new Plus content you say?
We’ve got the small matter of the Resistance 3 Plus Beta which you play until early September; we’ve got day-one discounts and exclusive content for Splinter Cell‘s triumphant HD return to PlayStation; you’ve got 20% off the much anticipated and finally actually here Spelunker HD; you’ve got discounts on the new Worms 2: Armageddon DLC (the full game of which is already 50% off this month in Plus) and as well as 20% off five new The Studio themes and lest we forget friends, the pre-orders for our PLAY titles launch today with 20% off each. And we’re not done for August yet either.
And onto the Store Update! As well as the previously mentioned Splinter Cell titles and Spelunker HD, another Namco classic gets the snazzy reboot treatment with Galaga Legions DX and the digital precursor to THQ’s upcoming Space Marine, (my inner-geek is so excited for that one) Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team blasts its way onto the SCEE Stores.
You can now pre-order our PLAY titles for 2011, the first of which, Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, releasing 24th August (and playable at gamescom if you’re coming). You should be able to find the Downloadable content appears for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Red Faction: Armageddon and more.
Okay guys, over to you. I’ll be back at around 2pm for some immediate answers and then again as soon as possible. Bye for now.

Please answer Ross!
Could you please look into getting Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep a PSN release like Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions had a few weeks ago?
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:41 pm by Ross McGrath
Little bit late – sorry guys!
I’ll ask Square-Enix, I know a lot of poeple want it, but it’ll be their call.

Please extend the coverage of the Store to more countries. I’m baffled that some EU countries are still not supported.
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:42 pm by Ross McGrath
We have a planned roll out for more Store fronts in other countries but rest assured we are working to bring the Store to more countries.

Pretty good week! Will probably preorder some PLAY discounts. Heavily tempted by Splinter Cell too… Hmm… Poor wallet
(Day one plus discounts are getting very good by the way
Thanking you Mr Thorpe, if you ever read this)
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:43 pm by Ross McGrath
Mr Thorpe doesn’t organise the Plus discounts!
You should be thanking Ubisoft for being such great supporters of the Plus programme.

When can we expect this PSP sale? There a couple of games I was thinking of buying, but knowing my luck they’ll appear in the sale.
Is the 20% off 3rd Strike only on the pre-order?
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:44 pm by Ross McGrath
It’ll be kicking in before the end of August.

Decent update. I have a couple of questions, if you could answer them please.
1. What are the file sizes of the Splinter Cell games?
2. It was announced a couple of weeks back that Firstplay was ending and I read that a new free to download show would be launching instead. When is this planned to launch?
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:47 pm by Ross McGrath
The size of the Splinter Cell games is posted in the Splinter Cell announcement post from yesterday, in the comments – but when we have a little bit more resource here (soon) we’ll be endeavouring to get the file sizes back into the update.
I’m afraid I don’t have any info on the new free download service yet.

hay Ross…. Any chance of us getting the dino crisis 2 avatars or the resident evil 4/5 avatars
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:48 pm by Ross McGrath
Capcom avatars have to go through a lengthy approval on their side (via their Japanese office I believe) but as I understand it we will eventually receive all Capcom avatars that are available in the US.

Hi Ross
Have you changed the Crash bandicoot 2 title yet?
I told you last week that it was incorrectly titled and if you can change it to “Crash bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back”.
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:49 pm by Ross McGrath
I did send the request on! I’ll chase it for you – sadly I can’t make the edit myself.

Apparently the US got a discount on all Megaman games. Will Europe be getting anything similar?
Also just before PSN went down the US got a discount on Marvel Vs Capcom 2, any chance of Europe getting a discount on that awesome game at some point?
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:50 pm by Ross McGrath
This is something that the promotions guy from my team is looking into – we rarely sync up directly with the US sales but often we have similar content in upcoming offer periods.

Any guesses on when the Sly Cooper E3 trailer will be out by and possibly those Sly avatars?

It’ll be quite a while for the avatars but I know we’ve got someone working to get the trailer up.

Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why is the webpage for changing passwords STILL OFF LINE?
https://store.playstation.com/login.gvm
This is beyond a joke now, the oxymoron of customer service ask you to wait for hours and then redirect you to the web site to change your password as the PS3 won’t allow you to.
HOW CAN YOU CHANGE THE PASSWORD WHEN THE SITE IT CONSTANTLY UNDER MAINTENANCE????
Answer that Ross or just ignore everyone again. You really do earn your money.
Posted on 10 August, 2011 at 2:58 pm by Ross McGrath
I can’t answer you because it’s not something I can answer.
I believe that there are still security concerns over the web form and so it’s still being looked at, but it’s well outside of my control.
If you are using the same PS3 unit that you created your first account on, you should be able to change your password through account management on the XMB, but I assume you can’t do that?
I’m afraid the only thing you can do at the moment is be patient until SCEI are happy the form is secure.

I’m quite not sure if I understand the play program, I put my pre-orders for the games I want, gets to download a theme for each game. Then what happens on the release day?
Also I’m sorry for whining about this again. But is there no chance at all for you to enforce a pricing rule in Europe. That prices can’t be higher than the value in America+VATS? I’m aware that VATS boosts up the cost for a bit. But it can’t be right to pay 25-33% extra compared to America?

It’s not whining about price at all you’re quite within your rights to make the point – unfortunately no, I’m unable to enforce decisions of this type.
As far as your pre-orders are concerned, if you pre-order a title you get the theme and then on the day of release you’ll be able to return to the pre-order spot and pick up the Unlock key for the trial of the game for free (since you already paid).
You’ll get notifications of availability on the blog and over our Twitter channels and the plan is to send you an email letting you know the game is available too.

Hi Ross
Fist time commenting so I hope you answer
There is a lot of demand for Crash Bash isn’t there, to be honest I recently bought a PS3 and hoped it would be there, as it was very popular back in the day and was surprised it wasn’t there.
I am also very surprised that US haven’t got it as well, do you know if they are getting it any time soon?
Do you think we will get it this year?

Some of those THQ discounts look very tasty! Might have to pick up Red Faction Guerilla whilst it is on sale!

Wait, NO Warhammer 40.000: Kill Team in Germany? I can understand why it’s not TRIAL & UNLOCK, but not as a full game? Come on!? Or was it a mix-up.
Anyway I like the idea of pre-ordering PSN titles for a little benefit (as long as it’s something like a free theme or avatar or skin pack and not content), so I hope this whole pre-ordering will not just be restricted to PLAY.

Are people joking about Crash Bash? It’s a terrible game, so I guess I missed a joke about it. I can think of at least 100 better games that should be on PSN.

On the PlayStation Store there’s a PlayStation Plus “One-year Membership”. The image says that the membership includes “+ 3 Months Extra Free” while the text and title only mention a “One-year membership”. Which is it? If it is indeed only 1 year without the extra 3 months then it’s extremely misleading advertising.

I’m confused about the WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 DLC. Can you download all the superstars seperately now, because they were all in bundles (apart from Bret Hart)

kill team is that price because its so short a game
it would be great with double the levels, come on THQ!

Ross,
Again, apologies for two weeks ago. Now so chilled out that I am sitting in a fridge while commenting from now on.
Good work on the sales, and nice price reductions.
Two main points to ask though:
1) Can we expect Activision to cut their COD DLC when it is their turn to have a sale? World at War avoided a DLC sale last time around which was just ridiculous.
2) More price reductions, please? Just contact these publishers and basically ask them to tick off whatever they want cut in price and by what percentage. Fallout 3 DLC (as always) should be in line for a price cut (60%+?) as £7.99 will deter quite a few people from buying them. The £3.99 (or less) price mark would be very appealing.
And another to be ultra cheeky – any movement on Tombi?

I noticed that there are 2 Metal Slug XX on the PS Store for the same price and by two different publishers.
Quick question, i joined the ps plus just so i could back up my copy protected saves (only way at the time) and if i buy Street Fighter 3 online using the 20% off discount, and if my subscription is expired, does that mean i can’t play SF3OE anymore cos i’m not on PS Plus? Please say it ain’t so. Thanks
