Hi I’m Mike Inglehart, producer at Hothead Games and I am really excited to be able to share some insight on our exciting and meaty game The Baconing coming out August 31st, 2011 as part of the PSN Play promotion, which runs until September 19th!
Best Video Game Title Ever!
I have been lucky enough to work in the industry for over 11 years now but never did I imagine working on a game with an epic title like The Baconing! I mean, everyone loves bacon and now the fan favorite food has made its way into gaming.
The Baconing is an action RPG which stars everyone’s favourite Vanquisher of Evil, DeathSpank. The story revolves around DeathSpank wearing all six Thongs of Virtue which unfortunately summons an evil version of himself in the AntiSpank. Now our hero must seek out the Fires of Bacon and burn five of the Thongs, which will allow him to weaken and defeat the evil giant, bringing peace back to Spanktopia.
The one thing I really enjoyed about working on The Baconing is that the game does not take itself too seriously. We had a ton of laughs creating characters, quests and in the studios during the voice recordings.
Freaks & Oddities
Today I wanted to introduce you all to some of the eye-catching areas and characters in The Baconing. The game features over 100 quests, with seven sci-fi inspired environments and tons of crazy characters to meet along the way. Two of my favorite characters in the game are The Leprechaun Mob Boss and Z.I.M.O.N.
The Mob Boss heads up a group called the McMafia who reside in Rainbow’s End, which is a Leprechaun Las Vegas. If you complete all of the side quests like rigging the odds on the slots, and taking out anti-gambling activists, DeathSpank becomes a made-man and part of the family. The reward is a DeathSpank inspired tribute to the Godfather film, a must-see moment.
Z.I.M.O.N. is an ancient supercomputer that regulates the climate and atmosphere in the Forbidden Zone. Equipped with obsolete technology like a 1200 baud modem and several bytes of memory, Z.I.M.O.N. has sustained barely-livable conditions since the late 70′s when he was created. When you meet Z.I.M.O.N., you will quickly notice a connection to retro portable gaming, and while it’s retro you would be surprised how a game of memory can quickly ramp up.
Whether you are an existing fan or someone brand new to the DeathSpank world, you will have a blast with The Baconing. We have made tons of improvements and maintained the laugh inducing conversations that people come to love from the quest seeking hero. Well since it is an Intellectual Property that we own, DeathSpank could end up anywhere. For now, The Baconing is his next adventure but we never know where the future will take our hero!

At this time all I can really tell you is about Roesha who is part of the promotion. She is a really cool sidekick inspired by the 70′s. She has many really cool attacks that are sure to bring the funk to every battle situation.

Just one question, I do have the game pre-ordered but I never got into sci-fi, will there be jokes that are for the general audience and returning characters from the other Deathspanks like thongolith researcher and spelunker etcetra?

For fans of the previous adventures you will get a chance to see how returning characters have gotten on in the world. The Mayor says hello, as do Ima and Strunken along with others. So we have a ton of new stuff and classic characters who find their ways into the experience.

I’d love for new maps like the ice caves were and even the ability to expand the previous 2 with extra dlc.
with this new adventure taking place after the optional ending for TOV I was kinda stunned. as it was a perfect ending to a perfect game.
what I was expecting was the prequel as it was very very suggestive at the end of thongs.

I whis the ps store was more like the steam store that way it would let me use some space on my 2TB hard drive instead of the odd game thats over price and you can get it off amazon for under £10
I think you should not be trying to tell me there ps3 games and just add mit there Commodore 64 games
will there be real games to pre-order unless its on blue ray disk its not a real game you know like dead island?
play dose not have games i class then as internet games it some thing you don’t want to play but just trying to pass time.
will there be a bigger range of games to pre-order or is that it the 4 and only.

i will be making a formal complaint against you for not once but twice you removed my comments from here in the playstation network blog terms & conditions you can not remove playstation network blog comments from playstation network users who pay good money to playstation network unless there comments is abusive but i haven’t been abusive on any my comments i will be emailing and phoning playstation network to make my complaint formal i wouldn’t expect me to buy your games in the future for this reason alone.

Sony pull your thumb out of your as$ and fix the web browser, it is now impossible to watch anything on the 4od app because the web browser collapses and says “there is not enough memory. the window content was replaced with a blank page.”
I will spam your blog and get others too help if it isnt fixed.1

I love the DeathSpank series. Best games on PS Store in my opinion. I already pre-ordered this and can’t wait to play it. I’m just a little disappointed we only get a static theme, when all the other preorders get a dynamic theme.
