Hi everyone, it’s Store update day and the second title in the PlayStation Network PLAY series is released today – The Baconing – the third instalment in the saga of Deathspank, defender of the downtrodden and thong enthusiast.
You are DeathSpank, a hero and the ultimate Dispenser of Justice. You must defeat the Anti-Spank and his army of Cyborques, before they cast an evil shadow over Spanktopia. Discover exciting new worlds and battle hordes of enemies as you search to unlock the secret within the Fires of Bacon.
Your free gift with this title is an extra character, Roesha, who will be available to download from next week’s publish – you can grab it from the PLAY Offer section on the Store, where you’ll also be able to pick up your pre-orders.
Also new this week, we have Elevator Action Deluxe from Square Enix, a retro-reboot of the classic spy, document collecting arcade game from days of yore. Well, 1983 was not quite the days of yore but it was a long time ago in videogames! The original arcade game is included in this release so you can see what all the fuss was about.
We also have the PSN version of 4 Elements HD, a digital BD version of TV Superstars and as usual, plenty of DLC to expand your titles, including a new Toy Story 3 LittleBigPlanet 2 bundle.
The Resistance 3 Multiplayer Beta also stops being a Plus exclusive today, so you can all try out the multiplayer ahead of the game’s release on the 9th September.
I’ll be around most of the afternoon today, mercifully I am meeting free until 5pm, so I’ll be around for your comments.
I’ll see you from 2pm – bye for now.

I agree But come on we know SCEE can‘t keep up with a superior SCEA & SCEJ new SCEE boss Same lame lack-less content broken promises.
Square enix EU a other lying so & so looking at putting PE1 on EU months back i read it is the same with the imports post Useless.
what about Ps2 games i now downloaded the Ps2 system data for it so pull your f-ing finger out or give to the SCEA store team.
i‘m not fooling for words & Not action 1 really good game doesn’t make a great update.
2/5

Adding in another request for Legend of Dragoon and Wild Arms
By the way, I was wondering if the US and EU departments on the store work together at all?
I’d assume that if the US folks get a game working on the psp, it should be able to work on the EU psp as well.
I’ll fully confess to being uneducated there as I do know that the PS1 games waybackwhen were region-locked. But I hoped that since the PSP can play psp games from both regions the same would be true for the PSone classics.

Ah nuts! I was hoping for Mortal Kombat Kollection!
Speaking of Resistance 3, what happened to the Survival Edition? Or was it Survivor Edition? I find it hard tracking down which retailer gets these specials, and this is one I really wanted but I can’t seem to find out where it is being sold, or if it even is coming to Europe.

Nothing on the PSN release except that Ghostlight want to get the PSN and UMD releases closer together.
They did reveal the collector’s edition last week though.

…and when Sony is going to fix all the firmware bugs. Auto-update doesn’t work, tv-channels missing etc.
Shouldn’t you test the firmware updates before releasing them?

Hi Ross, last week you said you would look into where the TDU2 expansion pack was stuck in the system after someone asked. Did you get any response? I think there is quite a lot of us waiting on that expansion pack/bugfix.

That’s the Baconing for me, this time…
So what’s the Warhammer 40K: Space Marine “Elite Pass” is this some sort of Anti-Used-Copy scheme?
Also will PSN feature more titles for pre-ordering with a little bonus? This is interesting as long as it means you get some Avatar or side character early on.

Posted on 31 August, 2011 at 1:26 pm by Bealinator
Ross,
It has been a while since we have had a PSOne classic in a weekly update, can we expect that to change in the coming weeks?
And please thank your colleague in charge of the Weekend Debate for the free game I got for my comment – greatly appreciated, you folks at SCEE are so generous!
Quick question though: can we expect an extension of publisher-based sales that we were having a few weeks ago? It was a fantastic idea, and I was quite tempted on all weeks to get something.

When are guys going to stop dragging your feet and start adding digital games to PSN that people actually care about?
I realize there are issues with retail for new games, but there really is no excuse for older Sony published games.
Why Sony have not yet added a ‘Platinum’ or ‘Greatest Hits’ section to the store is just plain dumb in financial terms …seriously, do you at sony have any idea how much money you are loosing to used game stores and ebay?
Excellent older games + fair price + Impulse-buy digital delivery = ££££££££

Hi Ross, two questions I’d like you to answer please!
First off, do we have a release date for Harmony of Despair on PSN? Will there be anything added too it from the XBLA release and what price are we looking at?
Secondly, this PSP sale is lovely and all but I still can’t find the games I want to buy. I wanted a digital copy of Tekken 5 but can’t find it, I wanted to get some Yu-Gi-Oh! Games and I can’t find them either but most of all I really wanted Valkyrie Profile which Square and TriAce remade for PSP, will you please see about getting some of these uploaded?
Valkyrie Profile is a classic RPG and should be played by everyone.

About PS Plus:
“We’ve added a few extras throughout the month of September already, you had a very full couple of weeks at the start of the month”
Ehh…no!
We only had the Plus update on 3rd of August.
That’s it.
And the last sentence in that update was “There will be plenty more special little extras for you during the month so keep an eye out for the next update”.
So far, we had nothing but a few 20% discounts on the PLAY thing.

Got another question, and I put this to Andy and he said it was a great idea: Quite simply, do you think there is a chance of yourselves (SCEE) and other publishers copying Disney and creating Bundle packs for PSOne classics? Just shove 1-3 games in it and price it at around the rate of three for the price of two or something like that.
For those new to playstation and who are tempted by the likes of Crash Bandicoot (I own them all,for the record!) what better way to introduce them by giving them a discounted collection?
Oh, can you confirm that the reason why we are not getting Spyro 2 on the store is because the game simply doesn’t work on PS3 properly? I tried the disc version a few weeks ago and cutscene audio is awful – cuts out at times.

Resistance 3 Beta
However last week I asked to put The King of Fighters ’95 (PS3) in the Neo-Geo PS3 folder, well it is there now, but The King of Fighters ’94 has been removed from there and Baseball Stars 2 is not in the folder. Do you think that you can put The King of Fighters ’94 and Baseball Stars 2 back in the Neo Geo (PS3) folder?
Also I wonder if/when SEGA has any plans of bringing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to PSN? Xbox Live has had it for a quite a while now.
Thanks
