Hello Everyone
Have you ever watched a F1 race and dreamt what it would be like to pit your driving skills against a F1 driver, well if you have a copy of Gran Turismo 5, now is your chance.
In a unique race on Monday 5 September, David Coulthard will take the wheel of a real 6.3 litre V8 powered Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. GT5 fans from around the globe will simultaneously be able to pit their driving skills against the world-class professional driver, driving the same car through a specially created in-game seasonal event – the Mercedes-Benz Driving Event.
To make the race that little bit more dramatic, the world famous track located in Europe which will be the race location is to remain a secret until race day to give all competitors a fair chance at victory.
Meanwhile, back at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, England, 24 prize draw winners will be battling to qualify for their place in the big race, and for those lucky few who set the top six qualifying times there will be a chance to compete against Coulthard in real time at the flagship venue where visitors are welcome to come and watch the action for themselves.
For the winning contestant at Mercedes-Benz World an all expenses paid trip to the Brazilian F1 Grand Prix in November awaits.
So here’s what you need to know if you want to get involved.
- The real and virtual races will begin at 15.20 BST. Real-time footage of the action from the secret track location and Brooklands will be streamed through a specially created site www.mercedesliverace.co.uk.
- Live coverage on the day will begin at 15.00 BST and will be presented by F1 commentator Martin Brundle.
- Leaderboard information for virtual racers brave enough to take on David Coulthard via the Mercedes-Benz Driving Event will be available on gran-turismo.com.
The in-game Mercedes-Benz Driving Event will be available until Monday 26 September so there’s plenty of time to keep honing those times. But the question is have you got the skills to take on and beat an F1 driver?

Nice!
Overly hopeful that it’s a track not already seen in GT5.

“the world famous track located in Europe”
Will this track remain available in the game, even after that event and will it be used in possible new in-game challenges ?

@ Grizla75
If a Phat PS3, point a hairdryer into the rear vents for 15mins, allow to cool, switch on & eject.
If a Slim, use the manual eject screw. Details can be found here:http://tinyurl.com/3jps2mg

I think people are misunderstanding what was written. It wont be a new track. It’ll be an existing one, hence why they won’t reveal the location, so you can’t exclusively practise on that track.
It kinda sucks that you need to watch a tv for the real race and your screen for your virtual race. There should be a better way of bringing in a ghost car that represents the real car into the race.

@grizla75 When the ps3 is off and plugged in, hold the eject button for a while and it’ll turn on the ps3 in a sort of safe-mode and eject the disc.

@ Nascent
True, it will be an existing track. Just hope it’s not Green Hell considering the glitches allowing for fast times. Perhaps GP Nürburgring.
Also, your eject method won’t work on a 60GB model only 40/80gb.
I hope the SLS is a DLC car. The GT logo looks awesome on silver.

@ Grizla75
Use Nascents method as it will definately work, as it’s an “emergency eject” that SONY implemented for situations like yours & naturally stuck discs

The only European race tracks in GT5 right now are Monza and Nurburgring. Unless they add DLC which would be GREAT!

^ Did you take the chance to get a USB backup of your GT5 save file? The PS3 should continue to work for some time.

Umm, silly question.
What track is the Red SLS on? I initially thought it was Cape Ring but the camber is all wrong. Then I thought it was coming down the hill at Tokyo R246 but there’s too many trees.
Any ideas?

It’s going to be either Monza or Nurburgring, Monaco is a temporary track, as is Le Mans (partially), so they would require a number of road closures to pull off (Monaco takes weeks to prepare for the F1). Using a combined Nurburgring layout would require closing the Nordschleife to private drivers for probably the whole day, which would be costly, but getting a 10 minute window for Coulthard to drive in clean air on the Nordschleife alone would be fairly easy (as would using the GP circuit). On the other hand Monza is preparing for the F1 in a week’s time, so that would be ready for a race too – they’d just have to disqualify for going off track in game!

The next f1 race is monza sept 11 so I suspect this would be most likely as the destination. Coulthard and Brundle will have work commitments there week beginning 5 sept.

It’ll be one of the Nurburgring variants… Mercedes car + European track already existing in GT5… pretty good odds then.

It’s the Top Gear Track. It’s nearby the place where the GT5 drivers will be competing. After the race Coulthard will pop over and visit them. It’s already official that Coulthard has said on video that he is in the UK for the race.
That’s my view.

Jonathan Legard, who (although it is not mentioned above) is also commentating, has confirmed it is going to be the Top Gear Track on his twitter. I reply to a tweet about the event, Legard says:
“Should be good fun. Link up between Dunsfold and Brooklands. DC’s gaming rivals will be quick!”
Best get practising!

it will be either spa or monza
reason: f1 was just at spa and nxt race is monza both martin brundle and dc have to work for bbc so they r easy track choices

i want saves for 24hr races not some cheap trick to keep us interested for more than 5 mins im not burning out my ps3 by leaving it on for 30+ hrs just to do a race tried for 6 1/2hrs but its not good for the ps3 and this is stopping me getting my platinum so is one of the challenges the european drive in the alfa sypder the first track is impossible without a gt force wheel and i aint spending 200 quid on a wheel just to do this challenge.
so please listen to the community when there asking for a save system for the endurance races because of the lack of this ive stopped playing this game now and its close to be traded in towards resistance 3………
