It’s almost here! With the release of ICO & Shadow of the Colossus HD Classics coming this week, I hope you guys are as excited as I am to be able to help Yorda escape the castle with ICO and, as Wanda, to take down some massive Colossi in full HD (and 3D for those of you lucky enough to have a 3D TV).
ICO & Shadow of the Colossus are two of my favourite games with some of the most innovative gameplay and beautiful art direction seen in gaming to this day. If you missed them first time around or if you don’t know anything about these games, don’t just take my word for how great they are; we’re currently running at a metacritic of 90% (at time of posting), based on 32 reviews. Some of which I’ve added below (please forgive me on the quote translation):
“You’ll be rewarded with an experience that will stay with you for a very long time. For under £30, you’ll be picking up two of the most important games ever made.”
“A must-buy for anyone with a passion for video games.”
“Two works of art for less than the price of one game”
“This HD collection is such a delight.”
“Two masterpieces / clear proof that games can be art”
“Do yourself a favour now, and get this collection”
“Two PS2 legends; one epic PS3 makeover”
“Gaming poetry, now in HD and 3D”
ICO & Shadow of the Colossus are true gaming masterpieces created and developed by the amazing team headed up by gaming luminary Fumito Ueda. Along with the two dynamic themes (one for ICO and one for Shadow of the Colossus), for fans of Ueda-san we’ve also included two videos which are available via an in-pack voucher.
The first video is an original concept video for NICO. NICO was originally planned to be spiritual successor to ICO and was an online game where teams of Colossus hunters would track, battle and take down huge Colossi together. The core gaming experience and ideas ultimately became what we now know as Shadow of the Colossus.
There’s also a 12-minute behind-the-scenes video filmed on location by our US colleagues at the Sony Japan offices in Shinagawa. This video features interviews with key production staff members about the making of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and, of course, The Last Guardian. The video includes the team’s thoughts on the HD Classics, as well as concept art and prototype footage of all three games. Plus you’ll get to see some exclusive never-before-seen footage from The Last Guardian.
Below is a short preview of the videos, to give you an idea of what to expect
Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, you will not be able to download this extra content using the in-pack voucher until Monday 10th October. Please accept our sincerest apologies.
Finally, thanks for reading this post and be sure to pick up your copy when it’s out in stores this week.

Why is the bonus content not included on the EU disc, and why are we only getting two of the videos (two weeks late)? Really disappointing.

Bit of a joke to have to wait for the content and then receive less.

I bought the game after months of waiting and I’m loving it so far. It’s just a shame that the DLC doesn’t work day-one when the US had it all on disc.
It’s no wonder I don’t throw my full attention into the Playstation brand any more. European’s are always given the short-end of the stick when it comes to releases and Playstation Store content.

Would have been nice if your system was sophisticated enough to tell you that when you attempt to input the code rather than just telling you that you’re doing it wrong or your codes have already been activated. Which isn’t very nice to read. Further, if you attempt the code too many times it bans you from entering ANY codes on your PS3 for 24 hours… which it did with me, and now I’m left wondering FOR TEN DAYS if my code has become inactive due to me making too many input attempts. Honestly Sony, it is as if your backward system has been hit with the idiot stick a few times!!! My code better work on the 10th or someone is going to pay!

I’d like to point out a few things to the short sighted types who keep on championing digital download and demanding games on PSN instead of disc.
1: The games on PSN are nearly always more expensive, which makes absolutely no sense as they do not have manufacturing overheads and are basically just selling code. 2: There is no artwork, no physical item to hold, admire… heck, even smell. 3: Try selling your games on and making some money towards your next purchase… impossible. 4: If enough idiots champion this and the next console does not have a physical media drive…i.e. download only… then they will continue to charge WHAT ON EARTH THEY LIKE for the games. £50 per game anyone… £60? What’s that, you don’t think the nice Mr Sony would do that to you? Guess again. He would do it in a heartbeat in a world with no pre-owned games and no competition, where the ONLY place in the world you can buy a PS4/PS5 game is on PSN. Lack of competition as regards where games can be purchased and for how much empowers only Sony, not the consumer. THIS IS BAD!
Now, go and buy it on disc, and keep supporting physical media as this could be the last time you ever actually OWN your games. Digital download is just expensive rental.

@ no.57
I completely agree. I got it on morning of issue and tried code…no cigar. so i rang Sony in Australia::: “our server is down we can check the code later. please call then”, so I called later. Their computer was STILL down, so I was asked to call the following day, NO INVITATION TO LEAVE MY NUMBER AND HAVE SOME ONE GET BACK TO ME ON IT.
So I called the next day and was told the computer they use to check codes is STILL down, call back later. FOURTH call, it was down but the lukily I hit a guy who knew that the codes would not be up until the 10th. ALL that time wasted, cos Sony cant get their sit together. I also asked about the HOME code for Dead Island & the DI arena dlc code which are still duds as well. “Sorry” said the disinterested voice “Compu’er says Naaao” Figures

Hi Just want to ask if anyone knows weather or not you can disable the in game hints on shadow if the colossus, becomes annoying when you are trying different strategies to mount/defeat the colossus and suddenly the game starts throwing hints up on the screen on what to do. I don’t want this, I want to figure it out on my own and if I get completely stuck then get help. Please can anyone tell me if it can be disabled or not , there doesn’t seem to be anything in the options screen so I am not sure if it is even possible.

I’ll try using the code tomorrow, since we don’t know in which time zone are those who have to activate the service…

So first we discover that we are receiving less content than the US, then we’re told it won’t even be on the disc and we’ll need to download it, then we find that we have to wait more than a week for it, and now on the day we are supposed to have access to our content – nothing. Good job guys, but in future if you give us a date, could you stick to it or at least tell us if you’re referring to a specific time zone. Cheers.

Really shame on you Sony. I would like to know the reason why are we getting only 2 of the 5 videos prepared. The whole thing about downloading it instead of being on the disc is quite peculiar as well, but getting substantially less than the other regions is absolutely ridiculous.

Given the numerous blog posts that talked about this content, is it really too much to ask that we actually get it?

Guys, does your code work? It’s 11th of October and mine’s still not working: “The code you entered may not be correct or may no longer be valid”.

FurryFreak: “So first we discover that we are receiving less content than the US…”
What did the US get, that we won’t get?
I’m curious, since the only reason I even bought the game was for the DLC – seeing as I got the game (promo without code) for review purposes.
The games are brilliant, but c’mon Sony, pick up the pace here!

Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 1:26 pm by Gelfling
FurryFreak: Ah, never mind, I found out, that the US version also includes:
-early concept and prototype footage of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, -a 20+ minute round-table discussion between key members of the development team
Shame on you Sony Europe, if this isn’t availabe to us as well! I’ve been looking forward to this footage and – as stated in the post above – invested in the game for this DLC alone, after having given you a lot of good/free publicity with my review. Yeah, I feel kind of upset…

People say that the code NOW works but there are ONLY TWO VIDEOS, not five !!! and dynamic themes are not full-screen..
What the hell !! We have some explanation about this huge fudge Sony !!
76
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 7:02 pm by ShynyTM
Well the dynamic themes seem full-screen to me but I am dissapointed with them, however, there is unfortunately nothing special about them. They both have this old-film grainy look (the same one that is in ICO as a bonus after completion) and the Shadow of the Colossus one doesn’t look connected to the game much. At least I don’t recognize it.
The videos are indeed only two and they are treated as games so no rewinding etc. This whole issue was handled so poorly that it is nothing but sad.

Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:50 pm by Alieen83
The code is working now, at last…
@manuelprod – that’s right, dynamic themes are not fullscreen. To be more specific – background is not fullscreen – it’s a little bit cut at the edges, as games’ original screen size…
@ShynyTM – SotC theme is connected to the game – it shows the Secret Garden placed at the top of the Shrine of Worship.

ARGH!
I don’t mind the themes, but what THE HELL is the deal with the installable videos!? No rewind, no fastforward, why not, why not?
Sony, this is so disappointing.
