Japanese retro fans, get ready! You are about to be immersed in a sea of PS one Japanese gems that never made it to European shores. MonkeyPaw Games is proud to announce the release of the first three titles to the all new PlayStation Network Import section. We will feature direct-from-Japan PS one imports and Classics, including infamous shooter Cho Aniki and the super smooth Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special. These shooters have been imported in their original Japanese form. Help can be found at www.monkeypawgames.com
MonkeyPaw Games is also proud to release the first game in the Arc the Lad series, one of the longest-selling RPGs of the PS one era. This classic is in English only and will be the start of many RPGs to come to the PlayStation Network Classic section. Join us as we bring you a taste of Japanese gaming that you’ve never experienced.
Relive the Origins of Tactical RPGs with Arc the Lad.
Japanese RPGs are on a level by themselves. One that is sure to steal your sleep is Arc the Lad. The game stormed onto the RPG scene with a compelling world that served as a prologue to one of the longest-running tactical RPG series in history. Arc the Lad, Arc the Lad II, Arc Arena: Monster Tournament and Arc the Lad III will all be coming to the PlayStation Network.
To this day, many of your favorite RPG features were first displayed in this epic series. Arc the Lad introduced gameplay fideas like jumping and body blocking that extended the tactical strategy element.
Players follow the young adventurer Arc, set to save a world teetering on the edge of oblivion. Seven different party members will join the quest, each one bursting with dozens of hand-drawn frames of animation that immerse players in a surreal fantasy landscape.
Further enhancing the game’s presentation is an epic soundtrack. Players can also choose to plumb the depths of an optional 50-level dungeon that, if conquered, will influence future events in Arc the Lad II, unlocking a key character and a separate side quest.
Cho Aniki reigns down on the PlayStation Network
Just when you thought you’ve seen it all in a video game, now you get a chance to see how wacky the Japanese import world can be. MonkeyPaw Games proudly presents Cho Aniki.
Cho Aniki has been a favorite of those with knowledge of the Japanese domestic game market. This classic icon of the shooter era created a special place as one of the most outrageous titles in the parody shooter legacy. Deemed too daring for Western markets, in reality, the game is a comic display of homo-erotic, over-the-top graphics and Japanese wackiness on every level.
As you blast your way through multitudes of erotic bodybuilders, spinning corpses and head holes, you’ll find humor and challenge in completing every emphatic level. The game consists of an unending spiral of the weird and wonderful.
Cho Aniki is tough and will challenge your shooting skills. But in return, you’ll get a constant flow of humor and irony that will make you laugh as you blast your way through.
Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special
The Sonic Wings Special brings you to fore of the great era of Japanese shoot’em-ups. This vertical scroller combines features of previous versions (I-III) and delivers a mind-bending, finger-happy splurge through shooter heaven.
Sonic Wings features 2-player same-screen simultaneous play and a choice of multiple jet fighters. Pick from 7 teams and fourteen pilots flying high in twenty-six different jets. Each captain is detailed out in anime graphics so you get a real feel for your co-pilot. There are 17 stages with multiple paths in which to choose while levels can be randomly served.
Who wouldn’t want to play Captain Blaster Keaton while battling the enemy Fat Morgana? This is a quintessential fighter from a great era of gaming history. Take a spin on your P-61 Black Widow and feel the power of Sonic Wings Special.

Nice these are finally arriving but you really need to fix all of the dodgy 50hz PS1 stuff released so far. At least release full speed, full screen 60hz ‘import’ editions of all the Squaresoft stuff…

should add Cho Aniki is….
I picked it up a year ago – basically the name roughly translates to something like bad game
yet there is something incredibly disturbing about collecting pools of white protein to level up your weapon – your first inclination is to think get these two dudes off me until you realise the toga dressed men surrounding you act as a barrier as you gobble up protein to battle bosses that pop out of a long shaft (first boss) and pyramid of guys that are either belching or farting at you (2nd boss) both of which are shown in the video – I can’t get past the 2nd boss – but not sure if thats a lack of skill or a burning desire to not know what comes next

Arc the Lad is in japanese, which is a contradiction with what Ray Almeda says…
Please propose the english version too : I can’t read japanese, and hence can’t play Arc the Lad…

hmm does anyone think its strange that the store updates and yet we get no heads up
is this SCEE’s way of dealing with the increasing number of complaints in regards to both its regular and plus content
or is it more a case of continued SCEE incompetence as opposed to outright avoidance

@hayzink
yes its up but with wrong broken content (re Arc the Lad)
good thing I put money on NA account instead of the UK one where I can play Chrono Trigger or Odin Sphere or both or buy the Arc the Lad bundle (there are at least 3 Arc games on the US store) – the possibilities of purchases to made when there are genuine choices to be had

@izorpo
i have choices i just live in fear of plus discounts later of a game i buy being free soon.
i never bought anygames for a while because of this and fifaly bought plants vs zombies full price as i thought with it being such a popular game it would not be on plus anytime soon but how wrong was i if id waited a few months id have gotten it free.
thats the curse of plus i guess you always take that chance.
@dylanolife
i think they should introduce a rule from now on that if a game is offered to plus users at a discount they should make a rule that it wont end up on plus for free for at least 12 months then people like you wont feel hard done by if the game is later made free

So the BIG 5th oct announcement appears to consist of an advert for Lynx and some 15 year old ps1 games in a language we cannot understand!! can’t wait for next week, I am hoping for a Tena Lady commercial and Pong in Klingon! K’plah!!

@weasel-dave
i thought that was the uncharted thing tbh, i know they told us a few days b4 but it was relating to the 5th.
im not expecting any other big news i would just like to know if there’s a heads up on any more discounts coming during the month for plus.
@catkiller

I agree.
I nearly purchased Plants VS Zombies a couple of weeks before it was free!
I might hold off on purchases from now on & pick them up at a later date, as I have enough anyway!

@hayzink
you misunderstand – the games i’m talking about buying aren’t on the UK / EU store they are only on the US store search for Chrono Trigger or Odin Sphere
Harvest Moon, Legend of Mana, Auditorium HD, Suikoden, – just to name a few of the games I have on my ps3 that i downloaded from the US store – which aren’t on the UK store
think while i’m at it will pick up God hand and GrimGrimoire as well – my guess maybe a year from now EU will get these games on the psn

@ Hayzink
I wasn’t on about the last few weeks. Incase you haven’t noticed James went off to Jordan recently. I’m on about the poor state of affairs on this Blog over the past 3 days!
There were harsh posts on here that the moderators would have deleted without question, on a normal day. Now the Heads Up hasn’t happened, but I can guarantee if James were here the Heads Up would have appeared by now

@windsorblue01
i have not been that lucky im afraid for the first half of last year i was thinking plus was a bad buy for me as i had almost everything every week bar the minis which i dont care much for tbh and the dlc was all for games i did not have.
then things started to get better (partly because i stopped buying as many games) some months i still find i have some of the content but i get more than my moneys worth even with them.
i think plus got far better when they did drop the dlc from it and insteasd added mid month treats(when they remember) the only thing i dont like is betas because there nothing new to me.
because i spent so much on the store i got emailed a few beta codes god of war 3 demo springs to mind plus others but now they just tack them onto plus(sometimes only for a week) and PERSONALY i dont think they are worthy of what we class as plus content.

my guess we won’t get a heads up (bit pointless now as it would hardly be a heads up)
but its avoidance of dealing with the fallout from the fact the EU isn’t getting the ps2 games the US got yesterday
also the plus offering for this month is pretty poor if whats in plus now is all we are being offered for the month of Oct (because for the last couple of months all those mid-month treats we were getting – we never got)
not to mention – the ps1 game we were given seems to assume we already have saves from the game as the only option seems to be load

So Arc the Lad is in Japanese, yet Working Design is credited at the very bottom of the store page? Lol.

@ Izorpo
i know the us store has far more content i have an account and do buy from the store(i had to as im a massive suikoden fan) but i hate the fact i have to have content on 2 accounts simply because its a pain in the ass having to swap accounts on the psp all the time to play stuff i bought from the user(if vita lets us have more than 1 account then this point goes away)
i have $20 in my usa account now but thats being kept for the disgaea 4 dlc when it hits.
p.s incase no one knows you can buy psn codes from amazons us site now and they email you the code, best thing about this is $20 is what you pay unlike with other site who charge a mark up to mail you the code.

@Skookie30
i read that eurogamer interview and the sony eu rep said we will also be getting the content from the new usa promotion but at no point in that interview does he say when.
if you don’t want to always feel let down by scee then stop building your expectations up to receive content on certain dtates just wait till they announce it.

I stupidly traded my Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for a £25 voucher yesterday!
Didn’t realise how rare it is too
The PLUS update has happened but it doesn’t detail the normal store content??!!
Can anyone tell me whether Crysis is on the store & how much, as that’s the reason I purchased a voucher!!

nope the keyword is…..contradiction that SCEE problem so are we gonna wait another 4 years for PS2 title that same rep said leading up to xmas Yes not this year.
i never believe anything SCEE said on here.

not a lot up to be honest – Eufloria and mostly digital releases of games like De Blob, Crysis amd Ape Escape
4 ps1 ones (3 JP ones and Gex if I remember right)
@hayzink
I don’t have to worry about buying codes from Amazon – my mother just sends to me
@ those complaining about the US promotion (only on psn)
someone earlier in the week posted a link to an article that stated we would not be getting that promotion but that Europe would be gettig something different – whatever that is

Hey everybody!
Wanted to give another update on the concern/confirmation that Arc the Lad on the PSone classics store is in fact Japanese.
Unfortunately, this is a mistake. We never intended to use the Japanese version. We expected the English version that we used in America. We’re currently working with Sony on a fast and efficient fix, especially for those who have already downloaded the game.
We will speak to Sony and get this situation clarified shortly. Thanks again for your attention and immense patience.

Loving the imports. Picked up Cho Aniki and hoping for more JPN PS1 games in future (and of course US releases we never got in PAL land too).
Keep releasing and I’ll keep supporting!

So wanted to chime in on a few more questions that people have been asking:
1.) Is MonkeyPaw Games working with Victor Ireland (Skookie30)
A. We are indeed working with Victor Ireland as he has been a great partner considering all of the classic titles that Working Designs and now Gajinworks has been involved in. I guess it isn’t a hint anymore that Vanguard Bandits is coming…
2.) Will MonkeyPaw Games take care of all import titles?
A. We won’t be doing all of the imports for the PSone Imports section, but we will be coming out with the large majority every couple weeks or so. Additionally, we’ll also be releasing PSone Classics titles (like Arc the Lad), where the majority of the games there will be in English. Expect Alundra to also be in this conversation aoon.
Keep your wishlists of import games coming, as we’re trying our best to secure the licenses to make more games happen. The best way to do this would be to message us on Twitter (http://twitter.com/monkeypawgames) and Facebook (http://facebook.com/monkeypawgames).
Thanks again for your patience and support as usual!

Thanks i had a hunch he would i did say about it ages ago.
so a possibility that lunar 1 & 2 be here for EU.
can you please do what it says on the can Ray.
why does a jap 60hz display in 4:3 ratio not 16:9 widescreen.
i just bought my 1st SCEA import like i expected a better region the game doesn’t say 60hz, but it is 16:9 widescreen.
when/if we get lunar 1 & 2 60hz isn’t 3:4 it‘s 16:9.

My mates and I would love to see BUSHIDO BLADE 1 + 2 released on the PSN . . . i know they’re available on the Japan PSN . . and I was considering creating a Japanese PSN account then buying a Japanese points card from the net JUST TO GET THESE GAMES . . but now i think i’ll wait to get them legit if there’s a possibility they’d come out for the rest of us.

Hi Ray, thanks for sharing the import love with us all. Brings back the glory days of modding your machine to play something special.
I’ve got a couple of requests for some classics that I’d love to have on PSN.
1.) Chrono Trigger – the US store just got this (and it was released in the US) – but we never had a UK release of Square at their best. I know its a big ask – but it would be great to play this game again (used to play it on the SNES back in the day).
2.) Puyo Puyo Sun – a HUGE ask as I think SEGA have the license for this now
But Puyo Puyo is a series that has had very little love in the west – and I love it. Huge Puyo fan.
3.) iS: Internal Section – Like Rez – but earlier and thankfully doesn’t really need any knowledge of Japanese.
4.) Gundam Battle Assault – Big silly robots fighting each other KOF style.

This article is a good place to ask(again).
I know Suikoden is available on the NA store, compatible with both PS3 and PSP.
Please can we get it on the EU store too?
BUT it has to be available in Norway too, since thats where I live. I know there are more in Norway that would love to either play it for the first time or again.
And I know there`s many more in the rest of EU that would be thrilled to get to play the first in that series.
I`ll be asking for it until it gets on there, for Norway too, I`m so desperate for that game hehe.

SUIKODEN 2 !!!!!
146
Posted on 20 October, 2011 at 11:48 pm by ThomasakaDes
@subra87
Lets stick with the one they got on the NA store for now, it`s more likely we could get that then the 2nd game.
Suikoden is in the PSone Classics section on the NA store.
I wouldn`t mind being able to buy them all on the store of course, even the 4th.
The timeline in Suikoden is 4-5-1-2-3.
I`ve played 5th and it`s the best rpg I`ve played, played it 10 times in a row before I got bored, yes seriously 10 times XD Played it one last time abit before I got a PS3.
And yes, even better the Oblivion and Mass Effect, imo.
