Well, the Import Section is now up and running. We hope you’ve had a taste and are looking for more Japanese fun. Our next game from the land of the rising yen is Arcade Hits: Shienryu. Shooter fans will have a blast with this emphatic display of early bullet hell. The game happens to be one of our office favorites so I can tell you that you’ll be satisfied and rewarded by such shooting splendor.
Arcade Hits: Shienryu is the kind of shooter that exemplified the class of firepower that came out of the great shoot’em-up era in Japan. If your eyes could bleed they would after an intense hour with Shienryu. Sure, there were bigger hits in the era, but Shienryu is a standout for its outstanding attention to detail and silky-smooth controls. Allow yourself to immerse in the cockpit of your tactical fighter and watch the full trajectory of shrapnel after you blast it into a thousand pieces.
MonkeyPaw will continue to bring you closer to your Japanese gaming roots. We want to deliver all those lost classics from a far-away land that you never thought you’d get your trigger finger on. Experience this gem and place your mind in Eastern thought.

This game is awesome, I have it for my Saturn. No need to understand Japanese to play it either in case someone is hesitant.

Looks like fun….Any news update on the Arc the Lad US version?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 1:42 pm by Ray Almeda
We’re working on emulating the English version of Arc. Of course, we will take care of all those who bought the Japanese version. We appreciate your understanding and support. In the meantime, if you’re a shooting fan, Shienryu has been one of our staff favorites. Take her for a spin!

Any chance of getting a few of the Taito & Namco PS1 games they got in the Japan PSN store?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 1:52 pm by Ray Almeda
Taito is now a part of SquareEnix. Square has always been reluctant to license out properties so don’t count on anything coming from them. Namco is the same, unfortunately, as are most of the big Japanese publishers. But there are still plenty of great Japanese titles that will come your way. Our model is to give you games that you may not have heard of but you’ll definitely enjoy. So explore a bit. Try one. Then come back again. You won’t be disappointed.

Any word of you cliaming Arc the lad to be in english whilst it actually was in Japanese?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 1:55 pm by Ray Almeda
The Japanese version was a mistake. We will deliver Arc the Lad in English, as promised. Sorry for the inconvenience. We humbly ask for you patience as we emulate the correct version. Thanks!

Looks like a fun game
One arcade shooter I would absolutely love to see on PSN is Blazing Star (it was also released for the Neo Geo). I spent a lot of coins on that one but it’s been a very long time since I last played it now.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blazing_Star
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 1:58 pm by Ray Almeda
If I remember, Blazing Star was a NeoGeo title. Never saw a PSone version. We can’t really emulate a NeoGeo title well although SNK might do so. We do have connections with SNK so we can put in a request, but for sure a long shot.
That said, we’re big on shooters so catch Cho Aniki, Shienryu or Sonic Wings. More shooters to come!

Can we have Konami Antiques MSX Collection Volumes 1-3, Namco Museum Volumes 1-5 (Especially Volume 4 just for Pac-Land)?

Sorry but Konami and Namco titles are really tough to get.

Tho this is good that imports r now coming to our shores I am disappointed at the same time due to the fact that most of us havnt even heard of these games n the games which were released in the uk/Europe on the ps1 have yet to grace our store yet other countries America being a good example has much more titles than us in there store, I find this slightly unfair n unjust are these markets more important to u Sony, just makes me deal that Uk/Europe is considered second class to these other nations n I for one find that slightly insulting, I may be the only one who feels like this but I believe this should change, cos I do not want to get round this like sum others I know by opening up an american account just to get these games which I believe should already be released here!!!!!
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 2:08 pm by Ray Almeda
We’ll try to get you everything that we’ve already brought to America. Not all titles are open to European licensing unfortunately. But all of our English RPGs should make it over. Believe me, its not Sony’s fault that they don’t get all the titles that the US store gets. There is a lot that goes into licensing/publishing that doesn’t meet the eye. Many titles never get released overseas. In fact, the US blog is full of rants about not getting what the Japanese have. Its a trickle-down process. If sales warrant, titles will be brought over.

What about American Imports?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 2:10 pm by Ray Almeda
We focus on bringing Japanese games to the West. Some of these games have English versions (Arc the Lad, Alundra) so you might consider these American, or at least English
. But we don’t really focus on pure US-released titles.

Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 12:53 pm by Catkiller1
@ Demonicspawn
I agree SONY should concentrate more on American imports, as for one they’re in English & the majority of excellent RPGs are out of our grasp!
We need some RARE ones.
Legend Of Dragoon, Tombi/Tomba, Star Ocean: Second Story, Chocobo Dungeon, Dragon Quest 7 just to name a few!
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 2:11 pm by Ray Almeda
I see a couple on your list that are on our list as well! Hope to have news in the coming months.

Forgot to mention Castlevania SOTN & chronicles!!!

Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 12:58 pm by Alestes
Talking about PS1 games, these are the ones I want on EU PSN. Some of them were released in Europe back in the PS1 days, but most weren’t.
Brave Fencer Musashi
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Chrono Cross (really want to play this, Chrono Trigger is one of the best games ever)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Legend of Mana
Suikoden
Suikoden II (my favorite PS1 game, come on Sony & Konami!)
Threads of Fate
Valkyrie Profile
Wild Arms
Xenogears
Also, seeing US PSN just started with a few PS2 games, I would love to see Suikoden III on EU PSN as it was never released in Europe.

@Alestes
I agree that Suikoden 2 is the best game i have ever played on the playstation, i have been asking for this for 3 years
, I still own both originals, but would love to stick them on my psp or vita (when it comes out) to play on the go.
As for the imports, i’m just glad that we are finally getting some. Hopefully more and more will be released, and i feel it’s only a matter of time before more familiar imports will be coming to the store. Not too sure if i will pick up this game, but would have no hesitation to pick up Xenogears and Parasite Eve as a U.S import if they ever get released.

you can cross out chronicles catkiller for me because i got it from last week.
why the hell we have to wait for imports, i & others welcome imports this title is alright but it‘s monday today not wednesday.
& you still haven’t fix your goof from last week.
i agree we got imports but we got half baked imports (minus america imports)
here to SCEE when will the america imports & Ps2 time “as promise”.

@ Skookie
The thing is fella we’ve waited for years, so i’m sure we can wait a bit longer
My life will still go on without them!
You need to stop comparing SCEE to SCEA, as they’re totally different & have a set number of guidlines that they have to adhere to!
When the titles are released in the US it’s simply that, the US. When the titles are released within the EU then we have UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain etc so it will take alot longer!
I suppose i’m more patient than you though eh?? LOL
Besides I have RAGE & BF3 to keep me occupide to even bother getting frustrated with having to wait!
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 2:23 pm by Ray Almeda
Catkiller, you are right on. The European store is difficult to get all the licensing lined up. Plus, all the languages have to be covered in the store. Its not impossible but it takes time and costs money. There isn’t much profit in this end of the business so most big publishers won’t be investing. Don’t get you sights set on huge-name games. It just won’t happen.
Our model will bring you guys games that are solid, fun and weird. Japan is full of these gems. Get familiar with our model, download a few. Once you play, you’ll start to trust us.

oh that so easy as a excues, but it doesn’t cover mail orders imports if a dev is so reluctant to dish out imports to EU as ray says they could easily use to stop mail orders if they so bother about it.
but they dont, the big test will come catkiller & ray & SE will CT ever come to EU as a Import what the excuse if not, mind you.
CT is Out in EU on the wii so there.

further more SCEA is better Then SCEE it‘s not a lie or a moan it‘s the facts i can see why people make a america imports.
& devs see that too.

also it not totallay fits here, any chance that my two favourite ps1 games (tony hawk + Hogs of war) ever make it to the PSN? I mean tony Hawk is a classic and hogs of war sells exremly expensive on ebay
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:27 pm by Ray Almeda
Hey Skatepunk:
It’s all about availability of those licenses. We’re always looking to bring back classics PS1 titles, but it’ll depend if they’re even available to be picked up in the first place.

looks awesome! My friend showed me a Japanese game that looked really cool, I think it was called LSD or something, any chance that you’ll have a quick look at it?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:30 pm by Ray Almeda
You know, we’ve actually gotten a lot of requests specifically for that game and are aware of its hardcore fan base. It’s something that no doubt warrants consideration.
31
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 4:05 pm by Izorpo
LSD doesn’t need a translation – you just kind of run around not really knowing what the hell is going on – it hasn’t aged well at all
I personally think the only solution is an international store – the whole notion of licensing and such in various regions is such an outdated model of business – especially in a global economy – with the click of a mouse I can purchase imports from Japan, Hong Kong – the US – not to mention purchaisng PSN cards from other regions to buy content
The big Japanese game developers are seemingly incapable of understanding the primary rule of economics (supply and demand) by witholding on the basis of (insert reason here) a product therefore creating a demand for said product then refusing to supply it – is hardly the means of making profit – which is what business does in a capitalist world
If its a language issue – most Europeans are willing to accept games in English if unable to get in their own language – Europe is in this little thing called the EU – stop treating them as independent countries when their sovereignty was taken away years ago

@ Izorpo
that what i‘m been saying. M$ can do a flawless store forget about SCEE it is SCEI fault this fault they set the rules.
ray says Devs time cost money, No devs dont run the stores SCEI does. SCEA, SCEE, SCEJ are SCEI lapdogs.
this outdated outdated model of business, i agree i understand it in the Ps1 era but not in the digital age.
when i bought a Ps3 it says on the can region Free.
that what sony says wrong more misleading lies it is not region free because if it was we wouldn’t have this discussion.
it only part region free that covers mail orders, does‘t covers digital downloads outdated by a outdated company.

@Ray Almeda
o ya one more question those megaman import you guys releasing it here?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:33 pm by Ray Almeda
That would probably be a question best for Capcom. Always nice to know what Mega Man titles bring back memories though. For me, it’s still hard to believe that the creator of Mega Man isn’t working as much on the series anymore. I believe he’s now working on a 3DS game that was recently unveiled.
36
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 4:42 pm by Skookie30
I always thought the japanese were abit backwards who doesn’t want money these days were the logic, you said to us the reason that devs don’t try to do imports is demand & time & money.
what a lame excues do devs not read forums & blogs haven’t we been moaning for 4 years EU treated like dirt, we giveing ross list after list after list.
is that not demand. lol

square enix sucks thank god their nearly bankrupt with that idiot wada as head off Square they bound 2 go bankrupt
38
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 4:58 pm by Skookie30
it won‘t be square enix america that will fold, it will be the newly fonded Square enix europe that once again fold into nothing it happen before in the Ps1 era.
SEE is sitting in it‘s new HQ, but for how long. i see history repeating itself. why did old SEE went out?.
because it didn’t release games out of japan & america that is a fact too.
if wanda wants to cut costs who will get the chop?
39
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 5:01 pm by dgnfly

the shareholder actually wanted 2 get rid off the head off square enix cause he is actually making square lose money with the [DELETED] FFXIV that totaly failed and some other square games.

Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 5:19 pm by bashforking
so the games like star ocean, suikoden ect that were released over here we have a better chance of getting them on psn then we do with rpgs from games like wild arms 2? Which i just brought for my ps1 and is amazing btw! Also whend that katherine game ot whatever its called coming to playstation? Its the one when dreams are killing people and you do puzzles in your dream?
41
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 5:21 pm by Demonicspawn
I think square should just release FF7 again with just updated graphics n leave the rest of the game the same or mayb add sum stuff I think they would make a bundle, especially if they could redo it all with all the characters looking like how they were in the advent children film god they could even put that as a DLC extra or sumthing!! O yeah thanks for the response Rav I didn’t know Developers were so touchy about licensing such a shame!
42
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 5:26 pm by Skookie30
catherine put back till Q1 2012.
I‘m glad to announce that from tomorrow store update will see a square enix euro shovelware title: fighting force 2 price same low price of the rest of shovelware.
not all shovelware are crap but it hardly a big title like PE1 & CT is it.

Thank you so much for doing this! I’ve imported a lot of games in my life and while the US/Japanese PSN makes the whole thing much easier what with the PS3 being region free and all, it’s still costly and cumbersome to actually pay for these things. Will you guys be bringing over some of the Capcom games that I’ve seen in the US import section?
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:34 pm by Ray Almeda
Again that will depend on Capcom themselves.

So why bother? People want imports for the good games we missed out on, not for the no names.
I’m pretty sure most people will prefer us imports to japenese ones also since you mentioned a japanse focus, US got a lot of stuff Europe did not and it is far easier to read (hint: Possible to read).
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:36 pm by Ray Almeda
KylieDog, we’ll have a mix of both classics and import gems to keep our titles in the spotlight. We’re about showcasing games that needed to be released because they were such huge hits in Japan, but never had the chance to shine in other markets.

Looks like a fun game
Hopefully the american Arc the Lad will make it over fine
Any chance we’ll get Xenogears, Chrono Cross (and Trigger for that matter), Threads of Fate and Parastie Eve?
I know they are under Square Enix, but you never know
Posted on 11 October, 2011 at 8:37 pm by Ray Almeda
We’re all fans of those games, but it depends on conversations with other gaming companies who own most of, if not all of the license. If there’s enough want, I’m sure it would spark some consideration.

i gotta say i´m thankfull monkeypaw is releasing japanese imports i like japanese style games. hell they a whole lot better than those big company who only think about profit.monkeypaw just bringing fun shoot em ups and i hope some more fighting games.

Hang on did i read that right the next steps for arc the lad
we be waiting folks, no arc the lad tomorrow.
& no Ps2 either i bet.
on the subject of launch of imports, i remember SCEA getting they 1st batch of imports it was more then 3 & the correct verison.
been a year. Us launch by SCEE just 3 titles a wrong verison this 1 here makes 4.
can you see the pattern.
