Well, the Import Section is now up and running. We hope you’ve had a taste and are looking for more Japanese fun. Our next game from the land of the rising yen is Arcade Hits: Shienryu. Shooter fans will have a blast with this emphatic display of early bullet hell. The game happens to be one of our office favorites so I can tell you that you’ll be satisfied and rewarded by such shooting splendor.
Arcade Hits: Shienryu is the kind of shooter that exemplified the class of firepower that came out of the great shoot’em-up era in Japan. If your eyes could bleed they would after an intense hour with Shienryu. Sure, there were bigger hits in the era, but Shienryu is a standout for its outstanding attention to detail and silky-smooth controls. Allow yourself to immerse in the cockpit of your tactical fighter and watch the full trajectory of shrapnel after you blast it into a thousand pieces.
MonkeyPaw will continue to bring you closer to your Japanese gaming roots. We want to deliver all those lost classics from a far-away land that you never thought you’d get your trigger finger on. Experience this gem and place your mind in Eastern thought.

I notice on here skookie you complain every week about the store updates and home updates and now import game updates. Lucky in europe we get anything at all. We all want what other regions have got at the same time but it’s not going to happen is it? We might not get some other things as their are different licences etc and there is probably nothing anyone can do about it. Lucky we have batman coming out next week and then uncharted 3 in the next few weeks and battlefield 3 as well. So there is a lot to look forward to

We really appreciate all the comments so keep them coming. On a more related note, who here download Shienryu earlier today? Would love to get everyone’s feedback on how rewarding the game is considering the usual level of challenge of shooters like this.

I can recommend both Shienryu and Sonic Wings.
Both titles have aged well!
Excellent top down shooters from a classic era.
Would like to see some side-scrollers as well.
Why do you have to emulate arc the lad again? It’s already been released in the US?
Will Alundra be the NTSC-U or PAL (EU) version? Alundra was released in Europe back in the day.
Posted on 13 October, 2011 at 12:38 am by Ray Almeda
Thanks for the words on Shienryu and Sonic Wings. We have a large shooter contingent in the States and these games are favorites. We’d like to know what the EU side fancies. There will be some upcoming side-scrollers as well.
We do need to emulate Arc for PAL, unfortunately. It takes a little time. Alundra will be PAL when it releases. Of course, in English! Thanks again for your comments.

it really funny isn’t it that i would moan about imports that i & other moan about them getting on our EU stores.
people haven’t know what imports mean imports are more then mail orders.
imports means you get any game from different sources, imports that given the chance of game you never played.
what ray has said can’t be treated as full imports maybe the word, limited imports will do.
i all for imports but i‘m not in favour of limited imports & dante didn’t you read my and izo posts those days are gone licensing are not a excues for this “region free” digital age.
there is region free or there isn’t, there is imports or there isn’t imports, no half way house that suits SCEI.
Sony advertises Ps3 as “region free” but it very limted.
Posted on 13 October, 2011 at 12:42 am by Ray Almeda
The ability to sell “region free” is up to the publishers. I agree a worldwide store would be the best distribution method. Some publishers want to keep the rights for regions separated so they can properly market the titles locally (or, alternatively, get additional revenue from licensing out their products). But its up the publisher, not Sony.

* as for home i do joke about home cash cow i also said home has been alot better since year 1 of home in open beta, but still loads to do. hence the new reboot soon.
i don’t know if we get UGC in home for us or it only for SCEA i will judge it when the reboot happens we were promise stuff but it never happen.
only GAP members & close beta members know what i‘m talking about.
i was a last stage close beta member just before it went open beta the UGC i didn’t see.

My god Skookie30 just stop moaning already. Sadly you live in Europe which is made up of the UK, Ireland, Iceland, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Andorra, Netherlands, Luxemberg, Monaco, Austria, Switzerland, Belguim, Malta, Italy, Greece, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czach Republic, Bosnia, Albania, Lithuania, Belarus, Rep of Macedonia and even though they are not part of Europe there’s also Australia and New Zealand. I don’t know if PSN is available in all of these countries but that is one big huge amount of countries to get liscensing, legal enquires and other things sorted in order to get a game published.
The US is just one country, that is so much easier than releasing in Europe. It will always be extremely hard for publishers and developers to get their products released here and if there’s not much sign for profit naturally many won’t do it.
At least we are getting something that other countries were able to get that we didn’t, it may not be everything that everyone wants but at least its something.

Thanks for mentioning that to Skookie. I stated it within page 1, but I couldn’t be bothered going into great detail.
Understand now Skookie?

thanks for the infor i already know if you reread my posts i said I NOT moaning about imports, okay i put it this way if we can’t have full proper imports like someone esle said “Why bother” it easy it even a imports or no imports “no half way house” no we can‘t give you everythings but we give you unheard of games better then nothing.
& if you read it carefully i said It SCEI fault not monkeypaw.
you are useing the old ps1 excuse, lastly monkeypaw is not doing the rest of imports some-one suggested why not a international store i agree saying it because SCEI set the regions rule.
you are nip picking at my post and not reading others.
@catkiller of couse i understand i just don’t use the ps1 excuse that so late 90‘s

This import thingie is probably the best thing that could have happened to PSN. There are a lot of games that I hasn’t been able to buy because they were never released in Europe. Thanks to this I will be able to give my money to the companies that gave me these great titles. Hoping to see old greats like Tales of Destiny, Valkyrie Profile (PS version), Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana, Dewprism (Threads of Fate), Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Tales of Eternia, etc etc.
Speaking of bullethell. Would it be possible to get the Touhou series on PSN? It would probably the second greatest thing to appear in the store. Only an online version of Guilty Gear Accent Core+ would be better

Please, stop asking for Square Enix, Konami, Namco or Capcom games, Ray Almeda have sayed “No”. Stop asking for the same games all the time, everybody have already played them.

He also said “If there’s enough want, I’m sure it would spark some consideration.”. What better way to show that we want them than to say it straight out? And if we can’t get the old classics than this import business will be a wasted opportunity. Not only for Sony but for the other companies as well.
Posted on 13 October, 2011 at 12:57 am by Ray Almeda
Hey RedMage, you are very knowledgeable on your old schoolers! Japanese relationships are very difficult because they require a lot of trust. Its not possible to just do quick deals as publishers see only risk. That’s why MonkeyPaw maintains an office in Japan.
We never say never but the Squares, Namcos and Capcoms are not easy to deal with. They could get their titles up by themselves, if they so desired. But they don’t see imports as a profitable endeavor.
The best way to prove that there is a market here is to buy the games that are now available. If we can make Imports a success, then the big pubs will take notice. Please help us to do this and download an Import today. Shienryu would be a good start. Great game.

@6
Blazing Star is one of my fave horizontal shooters and I hope that we see it soon on PSN and don’t see why we shouldn’t as we do have Neo Geo games on there now. I’ve been re-introduced to the superb Shock Troopers (not on the EU store yet but it’s on the US one) and enjoying that all over again.
As for this game. Looks alright. Might give it a go.

Ah ray still answering good i understand what you saying, a universal store was my other option to import section.
a universal store can be done by Sony, publishers don’t run the PSN stores sony can they also force publishers to have trophies M$ has a universal store.
it not region free i know that, the will of a universal store rests with sony.
now some news i bought CT, PE, Wild arms 1 & 2 Legend of mana ToF & xneogears each run in full 16:9.
you said PAL that means 60htz in 3:4 ratio? Ouch.
however i will buy monkeypaw EU products
will i get the imports again in my UK account well maybe. Going back and forwand between my 2 accounts on a fail hack attempt is not good.

* @ray a question why we getting a PAL version anyways since ARC THE LAD never been release in EU but in USA in NTSC scart version most EU has a 50/60hz tv scart at the back so it can do NTSC.
so if lunar 1 & 2 comes it will be inferior PAL 3:4 ratio yes.
the 2 jap shooters we had runs in 60hz but ratio 3:4.

@Ray (re reply to comment 68) – on that note I shall be purchasing Shienryu tonight. I’m very supportive of what your trying to do… unfortunatly even if these imports sell like hot cakes – I don’t think it’s going to convince the Japanese big guns. They have a rep of underestimating Western gamers. Hence the Japanese games market is in crisis at the moment. Shame because I’ve always prefered Japanese games…
On an aside – will Arc still be available to PS+ users (which I am) when it gets converted to PAL? Also will it be a PAL 60 release – as I really don’t want to play the game in slo-mo.

the arc the lad will be 60hz like the japanese one, but it will be a PAL 60hz with 3:4 screen ratio.
all my bought Jap imports i play in 3:4.
