Japanese retro lovers have a special attachment to the shooting genre. Remember the days when shooters ruled the skies? So many great games came from that era but not all were shared with the West. Here’s one you might enjoy.
GaiaSeed is for the pure shooter enthusiast. When you get your hands on this one, you’ll be taken back to that era. Supremely smooth with a silky techo backbeat, GaiaSeed is one of those lost gems that should have become a classic. The game is guaranteed to satisfy, again and again.
This horizontal scrolling shooter from Techno Soleil has solid control, precise bullet collision, and a simple power-up system. With six stages, it’s not the longest game on the block, but the massively scaling 2D backgrounds and variable difficulty make up for that.
But the real beauty of GaiaSeed lies in its subtlety. The technique and effects used will give shooter aficionados a work of art to go back to for multiple exposure. The soundtrack stands out for its techno/ambiance mood and adds to the subliminal nature of the work. The effects and twists in the game will have you on edge. Thoughtfully presented and wonderfully executed, GaiaSeed is a gem in a haystack. The game is very rare and can be found on eBay in the $150 range so at €4.99/£3.99 this is a great game.
MonkeyPaw will continue to bring you closer to your Japanese gaming roots. We want to deliver all those lost classics from a far-away land that you never thought you’d get your trigger finger on. We hope you’ll continue to browse our catalogue and pick up a game or two in the Import section.

Always glad to have more imports, but the selection so far has been rather… unusual.
Shouldn’t you be putting out the likes of Xenogears and Chrono Cross?
Also where are the PS2 imports? The US got several more yesterday but the EU store is still a PS2-less wasteland.

Not sure I ever heard of this but the trailer makes it look very good. I love imports and I love it even more when PSN brings these super expensive rare games to the masses via digital distribution. My only gripe with the import section as it is now is that there are only shooters in there. And I’d love, LOVE, to see import titles from the US too! Not just japan.

Hi HexElf,
It’s true that most of the games we’ve brought over from Japan to Europe have been shooters as of late, but that’s because a majority of our fans have been asking for those types of games. We’re adamant about listening to our fans about what they want next, so rest assured that we have a good mix of adventure, fighting, action, puzzle and even cooking games still on the horizon.

Any more news regarding Arc The Lad?

Awesome! If we’re lucky enough to see more of these from you guys is there any chance of titles like Gunners Heaven, Panzer Bandit, Raiden DX or Gradius Gaiden? I’d ask for a dozen Square games but I guess they’re a bit more unlikely
Also is there any chance of Arc the Lad II coming to the PS Store? It’s far better than the first!
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:42 pm by Ray Almeda
Hey Cassy,
There’s a good chance Arc the Lad II makes it to the PS Store. If it comes to the European store, we’ll be sure to let you know. Also, those shooters such as Raiden DX and Gradius Gaiden are amongst our favorites. They’re tough as nails, but really rewarding once you learn the tendencies of each boss.

Kyuiin looks pretty quirky & funny!
Any chance of Arc The Lad 2 & Arc Arena?
Good to see Arc The Lad 2 is in english
Also will the save data import feature work, that’s mentioned within your website?
When Arc The Lad English version is finally released, will the save file work with Arc the Lad 2?
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:45 pm by Ray Almeda
Kyuiin is definitely memorable since there’s two ways to your ship to attack, not just your everyday shooter when you’re riding a vacuum.
As for Arc the Lad 2 and Arc Arena, there’s a good chance you’ll see them together if they come out on the European store.
Thanks for your patience with us for the Arc the Lad English version. We’re trying our best to work with Sony to get the correct version up as soon as possible. As for the save file for Arc the Lad 2, that’s the current plan.

I really want to play Arc the lad. I was really excited for the release when it was initially announced to be coming to PSN. Now it seems to have disappeared. Why is it taking so long?
What about Alundra? It was supposed to be coming at some point also, Right?
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:46 pm by Ray Almeda
Alundra may have come out in the USA, but that doesn’t mean we’re bringing it to European markets right away. Thanks for staying patient. The wait for our upcoming slew of games will be worth it!

Please no more shooter imports, put up some American RPG classics we have never seen, or those in major demand.
Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Threads of Fate, Suikoden, Star Ocean, Lunar Silver Star Story, there are hundreds at your disposal.
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:47 pm by Ray Almeda
Kaiser, that may be difficult seeing as titles like Chrono Trigger are not owned by us. However, you do know that we have relations with Working Designs’ Victor Ireland right?

If you look on the Japanese PSN store you will see millions of PS1 classics
It puts the Europe + US PSN stores to shame really :-/
That is why i made a Japanese PSN account years ago & i got a Japanese PSN card & i just buy games that way;)
‘GaiaSeed’ looks cool tho so i might get it off the UK PSN store;)

well its great to see the easy playable japanese games coming more and more but i think most people expected you first of all focused on the ps2 and american psx library so we could get to play the real gems of the rpg games best years and big titles from those eras. these japanese import games are a nice spice but should really just be a extra plus to the psx and ps2 games the european games have fond memories of or missed out on. I cant help but feel you guys decided to do the exact opposite of the US psn which doesnt make sense as people have been commenting for years to get a equilevant to the US library. Now theres maybe a tops of 2 years left on the PS3 generation and we still havent seen any major movement to these issues

Looking forward to this classic.
Any news on Arc the Lad though?
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:48 pm by Ray Almeda
Thanks for being patient. We still don’t have an exact timetable for Arc the Lad, but it’s getting closer to finally getting the right version up on the store.

is it too much to ask to have something other than side scrolling bullet hell shooters week after week?
i don’t think this one genre every time is what most people expected when we were told the eu store would finally see some import titles.
i kind of hoped we’d see some other genres or american imports.
but with scee involved it was inevitable my hopes would be dashed.
even if a company tries to bring us something good they’ll will often find a way to mess it up.
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:48 pm by Ray Almeda
Lots more genres are coming. We promise.

looks good, but when will “arc the lad 1″ be back on PSN, and will you be launching “LSD” at all?
Posted on 3 November, 2011 at 7:49 pm by Ray Almeda
See my comments about Arc the Lad 1.
As for LSD, a lot of people have been wanting that dream simulator for a while now. We’re listening and will do our best to find out the possibilities of bringing back a title like that.
