Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Vodafone have today announced a partnership that will see Vodafone as the preferred provider of 3G connectivity for PlayStation Vita initially in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands, and with Vodafone’s Partner in France (SFR).
The PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model sold in selected countries will come with a Vodafone SIM card so that users can immediately enjoy social gaming experiences on the go. Customers will also be able to buy PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model direct from Vodafone channels, both online and in store. In addition, customers connecting with Vodafone will receive a PlayStation Network voucher to download WipEout 2048 from PlayStation Store.
“With social gaming and connectivity at the heart of PlayStation Vita it is important that we partner with a market leading network provider, to ensure users have a high quality 3G experience.” said Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “Partnering with Vodafone will enable PS Vita users in the selected countries to always be connected with their PlayStation life, friends and games, wherever they are.”
“We want our customers to have the best choice of devices and PlayStation Vita is a great addition to our range,” said Patrick Chomet, Vodafone’s Group Terminals Director. “We know from our application downloads that games are hugely popular with our customers, so we’re delighted to be SCEE’s preferred connectivity partner for 3G Vita devices sold across Europe and other selected regional markets. Using the device over Vodafone’s high-performance network with extensive 3G reach and market leading download speeds brings a reliable ‘anywhere anytime’ dimension to gaming.”
PS Vita will be launching in PAL regions from 22nd February 2012. For more information visit eu.playstation.com/psvita

i know for a fact that vodafone dont have the best service and download speeds.three are the best and fastest network and have been proved to be.obviously this is a money issue.and not really the best service for paying customers.

Is the sim special or can you put any sim into a PSVita? And will it matter if for example i was already on Vodafone contract and decided to use my phone sim and put it into the PSV?

Top tip – ‘Talk Mobile’ use the Voda network and are much cheaper, and with far superior customer support. I have unlimited internet with them for less than £10/month – and that includes more calls and texts than I can ever use.

Do you have to pay monthly on the 3G/Wifi model?

3G you can’t even download a lot from it and ping will probably be through the roof. What’s the point in the 3G model?

So how does this work for Australia where even Vodafone had admitted that their network is rubbish?
What frequency does the Vita support? Hopefully 850 so at least people in AU can properly use their 3G Vita here.
I really think this will hurt Vita sales in Australia.

haha my girlfriend has a phone with Vodafone and the sim kept dying so she always had to get a new sim card every month and it had bad service/reception, would always drop out, she complained and wanted to stop her contract which they wouldn’t do but they gave her 6 months free contract, so she got free calls for 6 months which she didn’t use cause it always dropped out so she just got a new phone with a different company :-p this is in Australia so I don’t know how bad they are in different countries

Wow fail! 3g services in uk are bad enough, why go with Vodafone? 3 has been the only 3g provider which I’ve had that has worked.
I’m getting the wifi version but I feel bad for the people who want the 3g version & now may feel their going to miss out on offers if they go with a different 3g provider.
I just use my iphone as a hotspot.

Oh HELL YEAH ! That’s great news Sony
Just a question though: How do we get the wipeout voucher ? I’m already a vodafone customer, does that mean I get it instantly ? Thanks

Well that’s an easy choice: wifi-version for me!
(Vodafone is way too expensive in The Netherlands)

I usually stick with o2 but I think choosing Vodafone for the PS Vita is a great choice. I have no idea what their 3G coverage is like in my town, but they do £5 top ups, which will be great for browsing the web and comparing trophies on the go as when at home Wi-fi will be used.
Will the 3G enable us to play games or download PS Store content on the go?

It’s unlocked, I’m impressed by Vita more and more! Glad to see Sony Gets It – sometimes.
Still waiting for confirmation whether our old PSP Go games work on it, whether comics I bought work on it, and what happens if I lose or break my Vita – will I be able to download all content again to a new Vita.

Vodafone are awful; we’ve got engineers at work who were on that and had AWFUL signal problems. Don’t know where Sony have got their stats from but since moving to O2, signal is excellent. I even got a signal in the middle of the Breacon Beacons up a mountain. Vodafone… erk. Bad move. I want a 3G PSVita but I’ll never go with Vodafone.

Vodaphone coverage where I live is pretty awful. I won’t be getting 3g Vita as most of the uk providers can’t give you 3g speeds. People in England have good coverage every where else in the UK borders on non existent!

pleased with this. I use Vodafone for my Xperia play and download speed is fantastic, better in the house than bt total. Can’t wait to take my PlayStation every where so who cares about the network.

I use Vodafone for my fone and they are brilliant, but I truth I don’t care about the network just looking forward to taking a PlayStation everywhere. Don’t disappoint us Sony.

Vodafone? Best net coverage and speed? Bwahaha, this made my day!
Sorry, but this seems like poor marketing. Net coverage by Vodafone is poop in germany not speaking of the connection speed. And don’t you forget the actual WiFi-Hotspots the providers support… Vodafone is kinda lame.
Their service sucks as well and they’re quite expensive. I’m glad I got rid of them couple of months ago. I’ll stick to O2-Germany and just order a second SIM-Card. At least Sony was smart enough not to Simlock the Vita

Wouldn’t it be best to get unlimited data for all the downloading, chat rooms, play games, and etc? Do you know any plans for unlimited data?

will wait to see if Telstra and Optus have anything to offer for the Vita in Australia. Vodafone is fine if you’re an inner Sydney trendy, but the rest of us in the western suburbs have shocking reception. Vodafone’s mobile broadband was very VodaFAIL in my area.

I hope this means I can get a 3G/Wifi Vita for £15/month on a 24 month contract. Would make affording a Vita much easier.
Sadly I suspect they will do something stupid like charge £100 up front cost to that, which would be a total rip off.
Never had good reception with Vodafone but it should be fine dedicated to the device as it won’t matter as much if I end up stuck on GPRS sometimes as that would still be enough to send/receive messages.

I’m sorry if this has been answered already, but just for some clarification. If you buy the WiFi version is it purely WiFi only or can a SIM card be added to it? I’m just a little confused from some of the comments I’ve seen.

Could do with knowing pricing structure for 3G as this will possibly have a bearing upon which model I buy. I have pre-ordered a 3g but if the pricing is a rip off then I will go for wi-fi. I don’t have a problem with paying but I get a feeling it could be a money making exercise.

Vodafone? Vodafone is a trash consumer screwing company, who hand over consumers details to anyone willing to pay,, not good for peoples privacy, and also not good for people who DONT want to receive cold calls from scammers etc.
This choice is on par with the AT&T joke you played on the US market, to which they laughed at you for it,, they know AT&T is an absolute joke of a company.
I wish Sony would look at the reports of what the papers and news would label as a “scandal”, BEFORE deciding about joining with companies like Vodafone, I’m guessing I will be one of the few people here who actually care and realize just how important privacy and personal details are, and in the hands of vodafone, you can kiss goodbye to it all.

Wow, Vodafone? Really?
Obviously the guys at Sony Computer Entertainment have never Vodafone’s Australian network… I understand that Vodafone is the world’s largest telecommunications network, but at a local level, Sony Computer Entertainment couldn’t have made a worse choice!
Poor coverage, insecurity with personal information, slow data speeds and dismal customer service… Vodafone Australia has it all!
At least the device is compatible with Telstra’s NextG network (which uses W-CDMA 850MHz)… Though if the 3G model has any Vodafone-branded rubbish on it, I’ll be still be sticking to the non-3G model!
