If there’s any game series that’s synonymous with PlayStation, it’s Wipeout. This fast-paced combat racer has appeared on every single PlayStation console, and now it’s preparing to make the jump to PS Vita with Wipeout 2048. We recently interviewed producer Michael Pulst, who gave us a tour of the new control options (front and rear touchscreen as well as motion controls), gameplay refinements, and multiplayer support between PS Vita and PS3. Read on for highlights from our interview. (more…)
We’ve created a brand new trailer especially for you lucky PS3 players who will get the critically acclaimed original Assassin’s Creed game included with their copies of Assassin’s Creed Revelations absolutely free.
As Ezio Auditore da Firenze journeys to Masyaf to uncover the secrets of legendary Master Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, you too can revisit the exploits of the Assassin who launched the Assassin’s Creed series. Follow Altaïr’s quest to reclaim his once-shattered status as a true Master Assassin and discover the source of the seemingly everlasting enmity between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.
Join us on November 15 and you could be one of the fortunate early-buyers that receives a free copy of the original Assassin’s Creed with Assassin’s Creed Revelations!
Hi everyone! With many of the Worms games, add-ons and themes on special sale offers on the PlayStation Store this week, we thought we would let you know a little about the Worms titles that are already currently available, and a little insight into what we have coming soon!
If classic 2D Worms is your preference, then you are spoilt for choice on PlayStation 3. Both the original Worms and the even more feature-packed follow up, Worms 2: Armageddon, are available now for classic turn-based, 2D cartoon strategy action. If you still haven’t had blown enough tiny invertebrates to bits, then there are also some great DLC packs available for Worms 2: Armageddon, with the Battle Pack, Puzzle Pack, Forts Pack, Time Attack and my favourite, the Retro Pack, all offering great new content for the game.
PlayStation 3 owners may also want to check out the recently released Worms Premium Theme and Worms Dynamic Theme if they want to have their XMB completely overrun with worms! The Dynamic Theme even pays a snowy Worms-style ‘homage’ to one of our favourite action heroes in PS3 gaming… see if you can guess who it is!
PlayStation Portable owners don’t have to go without either and Worms: Battle Islands is a fantastically feature-packed traditional 2D Worms experience for PSP, with a knowing “Modern Battlefield” theme!
Last month saw the release of a brand new PlayStation 3 Worms game, the brazenly-bonkers mixture of classic 2D Worms and hilarious eighteen-hole high jinks, Worms Crazy Golf, and also a free DLC pack, the “Carnival Course”. We have been really excited by the reaction so far to this compelling sports/puzzle mash up (a ‘spuzzle’ game as it has been called by some…well… by us!)
With regards to forthcoming titles, we are currently putting the final touches together on the PlayStation 3 game, Worms Ultimate Mayhem, which is, in our opinion, the definitive 3D Worms game. The game will have over 60 single-player missions, online or local multi-player for up to 4 players, 5 multi-player modes, and unprecedented customization and fully destructible environments. We don’t have a final release date at the moment, but we hope to be able to confirm this very soon!
If you’ve been following this video series we’ve been running around the launch of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception then you may have picked up on a thread that has been running through them, touching on how Naughty Dog have made the game such a ‘believable’ experience.
First we looked at their performance capture techniques and how human acting and technology combine to tell a story. Then, we heard about Drake and Elena from the actors who play them, and discussed how the relationships between the characters add emotional weight to the story. This week, we’re looking at how the Uncharted games use historical events as jumping off points into the story, whether its Sir Francis Drake’s circumnavigation of the globe or T.E. Lawrence’s research into the Crusades as a teenager.
Now that many of you have now played Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (dare I say, some of you may even have the Platinum), how are you finding it?
Since the release of Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone’s Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death, we’ve been asked one question more often than any other: “When are you doing The Warlock of Firetop Mountain?” So, I’m delighted to be able to answer this one finally. We will be releasing an adaptation of the first book in the Fighting Fantasy series, Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone’s Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain on the 9th November 2011, priced at £3.49/€3.99.
Since the release of Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death we’ve been keeping a close eye on our fans’ thoughts on the game to see what we could be doing better, and that’s why Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain will include the following features and improvements:
The Log Book now remembers which book you were in (Character, Item or Page)
The user can now return to the top of the page by pressing the up button when the first option is highlighted
A ‘Good’ generic alignment portrait has been added to Character Bios
A new mini game has been added to the end of the quest
As in Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death, the game features new combat, skill and luck systems for those who want a more interactive experience, while allowing everyone who wants the original gamebook experience on their PlayStation to play with the original dice based system.
So why are we doing The Warlock of Firetop Mountain now? Well, back when we first acquired the rights to convert the Fighting Fantasy books to the PlayStation Mini format, each of us had their own personal wish list of books we’d like to convert. The book that introduced the world to Fighting Fantasy back in 1982 – The Warlock of Firetop Mountain – featured on everyone’s list. So, while in the end we chose to start off with Talisman of Death, we promised ourselves that – if we got the chance – the next book we did would be Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.
Before I sign off, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who supported the release of Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death, therefore giving us the opportunity to convert more of this fantastic series. Growing up, the Fighting Fantasy series were a massive part of my childhood and if you had told the younger me that I would get the chance to work on them it would have seemed unbelievable. Coming back to them as an adult (well, sort of J) I’ve found they hold up remarkably well and it has been a pleasure to work on them.
