The Weekend Debate: Is Reality Overrated?

Earlier this week a colleague introduced me to his friend’s Earthling in Skrim blog. I’ve read quite a few Skyrim diaries but this one takes the approach of playing the game like a regular person: eating three square meals, sleeping eight hours a night and avoiding people who come across as a bit weird.
Imagine taking this approach with every game you play: in inFamous you’d be more likely to launch an innovative mobile phone charging service for festivals. In Metal Gear Solid you’d tell every other character to please get to the point – you’ve been crouching under a cardboard box for 45 minutes.
This week’s question is around realism – does a dose of humanity make a game feel more grounded and immersive, or is real life boring and exactly the thing we’re trying to escape by gaming?

Which games would be better if they were more or less realistic?
