Tommy Rydling from DICE here, hoping you are excited to go Back to Karkand! You can now buy, download and play Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand on PlayStation 3. To celebrate launch day, here is a brand new gameplay trailer showing Wake Island running on PlayStation 3 hardware. I hope you like what we have done to this classic Battlefield map, and that you enjoy your one week PlayStation 3 exclusive head start on this expansion pack.
Once you have downloaded Back to Karkand, the four new maps (Wake Island, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula) will be available in the server browser and in the Quick Match filter settings just like the nine maps from the base game. There will be servers that mix and match maps from the base game and Back to Karkand, so you will never have to commit to playing either base game or Back to Karkand maps in your gaming session.
That’s it for today; keeping it short and sweet so I can go back to chasing my new Assignments. Hope you enjoyed the launch trailer, and hope to see you online. Let us know what you think about Back to Karkand in the Battlelog forums.
If you are a Battlefield 3 Limited Edition owner, you are entitled to this entire expansion pack at no extra charge and you can get it from the in-game store or the PlayStation Store. Otherwise, you can buy it for £11.99 / €14.99 starting today, from the game’s in-game store or from the PlayStation Store. Every future expansion pack for Battlefield 3 will also be available one week early exclusively on PlayStation 3, just like Back to Karkand.

Hi judge,
Hoping to get some clarity on this and being able to say something more concrete on the possible timings on the next PS3 updates. Stay tuned on the Battlefield blog (blogs.battlefield.ea.com) for the latest news as we have them.

Looks great, but I can’t download until 7pm
Will try the expansion at 9pm & I can’t wait!
Please consider releasing more Battlefield 2 maps, with a voting poll on what maps us loyal fans want.
Maybe a 2143 expansion, although I doubt it, due to the huge task involved. 2142 wasn’t that great for me, but Titan mode was fantastic. Vietnam 2 perhaps?
Keep up to good work & please consider releasing: Dragon Valley, Daqing Oilfields, Kubra Dam, Mashtuur City & Songhua Stalemate
Expansions that are similar to Euro Forces, Spec Ops & Armored Fury too perhaps?

@ Judgehusler
In preparation for tonight, please can you filter your server lists to only include the new maps, so we can concentrate on those for a week or two?
We’ll leave COOP for another night
Posted on 6 December, 2011 at 1:37 pm by Tommy Rydling
Hehe, you can always filter that yourselves in the server browser and/or in the filter settings for your Quick Match search. Hope you enjoy it!

Well I don’t know about anybody else but I still get disconnection issues when trying to play with a friend online. The patch appeared to make this happen less frequently but the issue is still there.
I have kept hold of the game long enough so I can give these maps a go but if the connections issues are still happening I’ll be trading my copy in.
Just to note, this is not a specific issue with my own connection before anybody says so. All other games I play online work fine, as does Bad Company 2. Some of my friends are also having similar issues.
No matter how good battlefield might be online it’s not worth keeping if you can’t enjoy it as it is meant to be played.

looks sick! Why did’nt they let you take control of jets in the single player game, that way you could practice.

@catkiller1
o i see its my turn to host, mmm well ill have to think about that!! do you want me to put it on easy and kill all the enemies for you to? lol yea ill get on the case. hey that issue i had with not being able to play campaign due to losing connection with server, it must be a bug in the save file as i chose to start again and it worked fine but glitches are still there so going to hang my gloves up for a bit!

Bought the LE version of this game, but I cannot find anywhere to download it.
Checked the PS Store, both from the main PS3 menus and from “in game” on BF3.
Any help?
Thanks,

@Tommy Rydling
thanks for the reply. dont want to seem rude in any way but the idea of asking you direct on this blog is because the battlefield blogs never get answers ether, so pretty pointless in asking there as hundreads of people have voiced concern and pointed out glitches to just be ignored or fobbed off! in my opinion someone who works for EA should know whats going, is it that hard of an issue to resolve? if thats the case wouldn’t it still be better to tell people that its difficult to sort out rather than “o yea im looking into it” or is it simply not yet known how to sort out? how much looking does one have to do? again not being rude just trying to get a reasonable answer

would love to know when DICE is fixing the input lag on the PS3 version (just tell us something)… until then, i guess ill stick with BF1943 for the time being. at least that one has tight controls, and i dont feel im struggling to aim :S …im giving DICE till the end of December to come up with something, or else im dumping this on ebay
so far, the biggest disappointment i had with a game

Never played Battlefield 2 so I don’t know of these maps, having a conquest flag on the 3rd or 4th floor inside a building is interesting to say the least, I like them.
Although I’m not clear about what the new B2K weapons are, or how to get them.
@KaffeineKeiser (13)
@xx-InFeRnAL-xx (25)
I went to the PS3 addon section in the store under Battlefield and grabbed it from there.

Just replayed the campaign on hard, love the Bourne type of cutscenes :p Downloading the LE dlc went smoothly too, it was just free for me on the store (userfriendly ftw:p). Getting ready to get it on in my favorite bf2 map, Karkand baby! And new weapons! Dice, you rock.

do not download this unless you want battlefield3 to go under 30 frames a second every 3 or 4 seconds, and have constant game freezes so bad you have to reset your ps3. after it is reset it starts up saying that there was a hard disk error and that the ps3 has to have it’s file system rebuilt. lucky i got it for free with limited edition, i dont understand why anyone would pay $25 for your system to freeze all the time
good job dice, may aswell go play mw3 now :\

jfontyman go to my soldier then assignments to view what challenges you must complete to unlock each gun! You can only do the top 5 first then each gun you unlock allows you to start unlocking the next gun below it!

i think its a bit much too ask you to pay 40 pounds for the game then ask you to pay another 12 for four maps they should be free for everyone

I was wondering if Dice is still working on the game chat? The icon comes up now, but still can not hear anyone talking. Just would like an update.
Also, since this new DLC was released the aiming is glitching with the L1 on the PS3. It doesn’t matter what gun or map your on. This is something new. Is this something Dice is aware of? Thanks. Back to KarKand is awesome

why would it be free ? is CoD dlc free ?

Well, where do I start?
Strike at Karkand has a major glitch. If you spawn at “Market” & run to the right behind the buildings towards the stairs, on the way towards “Square”, “Bad Luck” appears, instant death?!
The input lag is more apparant within this expansion & the hit detection is slightly off!
Gulf Of Oman & Sharqi peninsula have terrible VOIP & stuttering occurs frequently.
Health of the soldiers needs to be altered slightly, as it feels like they have 150% & not 100%.
Only “Quick Match” works with the filters applied. Browsing the Servers & selecting any of the expansion maps, loads an original map instead!
Before fixing any of this though, I would still prefer a VOIP fix please
