First of all, we’d like to thank the PlayStation.Blog and its readers for supporting Amy for several months now. As we get closer to the release of the game, which will be early next year, we wanted answer a question that has been asked many times: what kind of survival-horror game is Amy? How do players cope with enemies? What kind of weapons can you use? To answer those questions and more, we created the following video just for you:
As you can see, Amy is not about giving you huge power against enemies and giving players an action-oriented experience. Amy goes back to the roots of the survival-horror genre, and provides edge-of-your-seat suspense that will keep you wondering what’s around the next corner.
While most games in the genre choose to either be action- or combat-based, or instill fear by making players feel vastly less powerful than their enemies, Amy combines the best of both worlds. Paul Cuisset, the man behind Amy (and classic games such as Flashback), wanted to a new dimension, which is the cooperation between Amy and Lana .
Playing as Lana, you will have to decide whether you want to hide and avoid combat, or fight by using whatever weapons you can find. As highlighted in the last video, you can use Lana’s vulnerability to the infection to walk amongst enemies undetected, or use Amy’s special abilities, which you can see a glimpse of at the end of this video.
This makes you consider many options before trying to fight: hiding, asking Amy to go away, or using her special powers to defeat your opponents. But as we like to encourage players to exercise their right to choose, if you want to fight, go ahead and try. You won’t always be able to win, but those who don’t try will never know…

Combat seems a bit clumsy to be honest, but apart from that it looks like it’s gonna be a great game! It’ll be a nice start of the game year 2012 I’m sure

This game is looking really, really good! I can’t wait to play it. Been a while since we had a proper survival horror game.
@Furiekins you’d be better off posting stuff like that on blogs from Sony, not by a developer.

Will it be better than Silent Hill 2?

this game just keeps looking more and more interesting.
i don’t think we’ve seen a true survival horror game in years, plenty of zombie flavoured shootemups though.
i’m not sure about the weapons breaking thing though.
if it’s a bit of wood, sure, it’ll break sooner rather than later, but if you’re gonna have metal weapons, like crowbars for example, then a solid lump of steel like that is not gonna break for a very long time, and certainly not on something as comparatively fragile as a human body.
that’s a relatively minor gripe though.

As ever this is still one of my anticipated games of next year. About the weapons, don’t focus on the reality too much. I would like to think that a metal pipe will be stronger than a wooden stick, but I’m sure the idea of them eventually breaking is to give the player more incentive to pick up and experiment with different weapons also knowing your weapon could break soon adds to the survival/tension aspect of the situation.
Anyway looking forward to this can we have a demo too please ?!

Looks like a hybrid of silent hill and siren : blood curse il probably buy this day 1 because I like survival horror games.

on topic, interesting looking take on the genre, But the mother instinct in me is .. well not there.. lol… what if any adjustments (ingame) are possible?. Maybe instead of the two girls it ‘might’ also woork with two males, or a combination, ie keep amy (obviously) but have the choice to play male (father?) role as well as the current one, just my opinion and maybe cause to not get this nice looking game.

I have never stated that I was in the Army. I served within the RAF for 6 1/2 years!
Don’t know who did a background check on but it certainly wasn’t me. I have used HOME 3 times for roughly 2hrs. I have never offended anyone on there, as I never talked to anyone & just browsed HOME to see what it was all about!
I can’t believe you state that i’ve sent you death threats. All i’ve ever done is decline your friends request, as I would never want such a vile & disgusting human being within my friends list!

not only have you received a folder on this person and still allowed such behaviour you will now have to answer to the proper authorities as a case file will be made due to this person using many foreign sites to express his hatred and vile remarks to young children.

i can understand why they have weapons that break.
it’s more of a minor annoyance than a real problem, but i’d like to see games designed so they make the player want to use different weapons for variety, rather than forcing them to by having them break.
the worst games for handling the whole weapon durability issue are without a doubt the fallout games.
not so much in how they break, but how you repair them.
how do you repair a crowbar, using another crowbar?
it’s just a lump of metal, it’s not like you can swap the parts out like you can a firearm.
anyway, needless to say, i can’t wait to try Amy out for myself.
something for us plus subscribers would be nice too.

This game just looks like a Rip-Off of Silent Hill! I won’t be getting this at all. If anything I would like to see a Silent Hill 4: The Room HD Remake, but beggars can’t be choosers.
