A new system software update (v4.10) for PlayStation 3 (PS3) will be released later today. Here is a summary of what it includes:
- The Internet Browser has been improved. This will result in better display of content and page layouts are displayed with greater accuracy. Some websites that could not be displayed correctly prior to the release of PS3 system software 4.10, including interactive websites, are now supported.
- You can automatically set the time more accurately via the Internet every time your PS3 system connects to PlayStation Network (PSN). This can be done via [Settings] > [Date and Time Settings] > [Set Automatically] on the XMB (XrossMediaBar).
- PSN Account will be renamed Sony Entertainment Network Account. This will not result in any changes to how you log in or the details you use to do so.
In order to download PS3 system software version 4.10, you will need a minimum 180MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Nice to finally have the browser updated but the quality of YouTube videos is just desperate. It seriously needs some work. A dedicated YouTube app would be great.

Time for Unwinged-Angels lingo tips!
PlayStation Network (PSN)
Sony Entertainment Network (SEN)
PlayStation Plus (PS+)
Thus, it is still PlayStation Plus (PS+) and not PSN+ or SEN+
And thats just one of many of Unwinged-Angels lingo tips!

Thanks for the update
Got nowhere else to ask this but could someone please tell me if Twisted Metal will have subtitles for the story?
I’ve written to them on the twisted metal posts and no one bothered replying. Google was no help either to find answers.

Ok, browser is updated but we are still not able to watch anything where “Adobe Flash update” is needed, and that is many places! I was hoping to watch GT1TV but i can’t, flash problem! My PC is too weak (to run videos above 240p) and without sound – so don’t tell me “watch on PC”
Non-firmware related, put more flags (Croatian for example) in official trophy card, told so many times…
@SKELLY7, use PS3Youtube page, it rules!

Glad to see the PS3 browser switched to the WebKit rendering engine, should make the PS3 compatible with a lot more sites since you are now using the same engine as Android, Chrome, Safari and iOS. Big thumbs up Sony!

This update seems to have made it so that when you install a game from a bubble it doesn’t delete the bubble, handy for Mini/PS1 titles to copy to the PSP etc.
As in a previous update Sony removed the ability to copy games to a PSP if it had already been installed (which deleted the bubble).
I’ve only checked this out on a Mini title but guess it would be the same for a PS1 game also

An update to the browser is a much needed update thanks for that, I hope Sony doesn’t stop improving the browser.
When giving out our PSN name do we have to call it a SEN name now? it doesn’t have the same ring to it as PSN

@ RiISKYVIRUS post71.
That happened to me last week, after downloading both Arc the lad, and FF5, so it wasn’t this update that done it, but hope it stays that way for people with psp’s.
btw i don’t usually bother with ps1′s but both of those games are meant to be good, but i’m glad i never paid for them to find out.. just can’t understand how anyone can play/watch those kind of games on a hdtv, but guess they’d fit good on psp etc.

would like the option to update after I have played online. the wait is killing me….

Posted on 8 February, 2012 at 1:32 pm by chrisandsheva
Seems i either posted to the wrong number post, or flagged posts have been allowed, if the later is there no system to prevent mix ups from happening ie if a post is awaiting moderation still give it it’s box and number, with a message saying awaiting mod. or post deleted, it could work if idiots didn’t abuse it, then again, anyway it can be confusing (sometimes).

Concerning bazwright70′s post, thats interesting, i mean if this firware was solely to improve the browser then why’s it compulsory? What else aren’t we being told, like maybe firmware4.00 really did cause problems with ps3′s. I did notice my disc kept tring to insert even though it was allready inserted, and others have reported all manner of different problems that only began after the 4 update, You know i love a good conspiracy tale etc, ie maybe sony messed up with 4, and a lot of systems may be headed to spare parts place, so hide truth, give public a actual update (for once) and when peoples consoles become doorstops just look the other way, while whistling some tune or ‘other’..guess time will tell.

You guys should consider in a future update to allow ps1 games to be fit to the screen while keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio, is kind of annoying to play them on a small window in the middle of the tv.

Only 1 request. Please try and add 3D Dolby True HD decoding on the next update. I’ve watched two movies, Megamind and Transformers Dark of the Moon that got downgraded to Dolby Digital 5.1 because of this and it really changes the experience once you’ve heard the DTS-HD Master tracks that can now be decoded in 3D or the Dolby True HD tracks in 2D.

I think PSN sounds better abbreviated, but when you say the whole thing, Sony Entertainment Network sounds just as good as Playstation Network..

Can some one confirm that the feature in the screen shot is in this firmware update please.
I am talking about the copy more than one save at a time feature.
Currently at work so can’t check, thanks in advance.

Also, is there any chance we’ll get to see improvements to the trophy syncing anytime soon? It takes pretty long to sync them and if you quit syncing it usually takes just as long to get out.. Quite annoying if you sync during online gameplay.. Also, the time it takes to display icons in the XMB could be shorter.. These are the main things I’d like to see improved and other than that the XMB is perfect imo..
Sorry for doublepost.

Hi.
What’s up with YouTube playback. It’s as useless as it’s always been.
240p and choppy video. Wow, welcome to 2012.
Anyone else have another experience?

SONY you have done a great job on the browser, I am already beginning to see large improvements to the PS3.
However it would still be great too have a youtube and a Facebook app on the XMB. You have to understand that if you want to achieve better than the Xbox then you must improve the console further, the Xbox is getting far larger updates but the I know SONY has the power to pass them easily but you dont use that power, simple things SONY. Please could you add a youtube app and a Facebook aap, these are the most widely used services on the internet and if a console could use them at the best of its ability then im sure that console would be phenomenal. The choice is yours SONY…

Tried Gamersyde and streaming videos there.
The browser and my PS3 slim just froze. Awesome browser. I’m not dumping my laptop just yet, maybe PS4 will have a browser that you can actually use for something.

WARNING
After trying the new and improved browser my PS3 froze, after reboot “Checking and restoring the file system… Do not turn off the system.”. Been like that for ~30 minutes now.
Just as a warning for everybody else.
STAY AWAY FROM THE PS3 BROWSER IF YOU CHERISH YOUR PS3.
What’s the point of improving the browser when it still is stone age, if you want to improve it at least bring it up to date.
