Starhawk Beta Opens To All Tomorrow

Starhawk Logo

We’re happy to announce (remind) everyone that the Starhawk Multiplayer Beta is open to ALL COMERS tomorrow, February 22nd only on PlayStation Network! You don’t have to “like” us on Facebook, you don’t have to “accept a special offer” and you don’t have to sign up for any service (that is, except for the PlayStation Network free service)! Everyone is welcome to join! Just check the PlayStation Store and prepare yourself for a good time.

In the coming weeks we’ll be upgrading the Beta a lot. You can expect a new map, new vehicles, new weapons, 32 player max matches and more. Remember, this is STILL a Beta, not a Demo. We are actively finding and fixing problems – and we need your feedback.

The Starhawk Beta will not last forever. When we’re done testing it will go “bye-bye”… and so I wrote a poem to illustrate my point…

The Starhawk Serenade
If you don’t try Starhawk you’ll be sad,
While your friends are having fun you’ll be mad,
It’s such an easy download,
Your head may explode!
There’s so much d&*#*! fun to be had!

You WILL be sad if you miss out! Don’t be sad Live a little! Do it….dooooo it…

For you new players here are a bunch of handy tips…

  • You can post your bug feedback by logging into the Starhawk Beta forums using your PSN ID
  • Check the fan-made Starhawk wiki for info
  • Check the Lightbox Beta news for updates and tips

We realize that a lot of new players will be jumping in. Here are some tips to help you along:

GENERAL TIPS

  • Kill to Build, Build to Kill. Kill enemies to get more Rift Energy to build more stuff to kill more enemies
  • Glowing Rift Barrels can be shot to collect more Rift Energy
  • DO NOT repeatedly build the same structures. Things like Garages or Launch Pads allow you to create new Vehicles without building a new structure
  • If you stay in the vicinity of your base area and Rift Extractor you will auto-magically collect Rift Energy
  • Each structure does something specific. Discover their purpose!
  • Most all the structures have a glowing yellow panel. If you go up to one you will be prompted to either create a new vehicle or remove the building. Removing repeat buildings is a great way to get your structure cap level under the max
  • Use mics for the best experience….and sometimes to learn a few new words. :)
  • Pick your Skill wisely. You can also change them during a match during respawn. Remember that you need enough XP points AND the listed prerequisite for a Skill to unlock

TOP 10 STARHAWK BETA TIPS FROM REAL BETA PLAYERS

  1. Wall Spam, What Is It Good For? Absolutely Nothing! If you place a ton of walls they will suck up structure cap space – and the enemy will fly over them anyway! Use them intelligently. Look to create choke points and use them efficiently. It’s very tempting to build them as they are relatively cheap and they scratch the “build a base” itch. Stand firm! Avoid spamming the battlefield with unwanted clutter!  – From H-BOMM
  2. Take My Knife, Please! When you’re knifing an enemy try to jump and knife at the same time. You can also get higher (stand on a rock, etc). – From Warhawk Starhawk
  3. Sniper Time! If you aim the LR-3 Railgun for a long period of time the laser will show and your location will be revealed. Use it quick to avoid detection. – From Matt-Moore
  4. Choose Your Friends Wisely! Working as a team is absolutely critical have a shot at winning. Teamwork is key. – From Outast_Graves
  5. Mic Up! Use your mic. Encourage your friends to use their mics and work together for optimal fun. – From Sharp Dagger
  6. For The Love Of God, RUN! Press R2 to run. Do it always. Never walk. Always run. Run, run, run. – From TuckTay
  7. Enemy Mine! The mines are magnetic…you can stick them to your Hawk or Razorback. Get close enough to enemy Hawks or Razorbacks and they will “jump” onto them and explode. – From Seven11
  8. To Build Or Not To Build If you need a Razorback or a Mech look around your base first. Don’t build another structure if they are there already. Run up to the yellow panel and build the vehicle.  – From SmokScr
  9. Sell You Down The River You can sell and remove most buildings by using the yellow control panel on each one. Just run up to it, choose to “remove” and down it comes – From Ikeler
  10. Bite The Hand That Feeds If you EVER see a player with the handles LBI (insert name here) or SONY (insert name here) kill, kill, kill…. – From RobbieK

Thanks for the reminder and advice. :)

I’m intrigued by footage I’ve seen, so I’m gonna give it a go tomorrow.

Couple of things

In december I asked about getting uncharted 3 access email.I never got one.I was in since december, but wanted to give it away.

Any date on the new map.And because it’s 32 player, can you tell us the B&B limit.I really need a new map :)

    Florence Kum 22 February, 2012 @ 9:45 am

Hi! EU players were meant to get a reminder email not an email withb a voucher in it…apologies if you didn’t get it. The email was to remind you that any player that has activated their Online Pass for Uncharted 3 will automatically see Starhawk Beta in the Playstation Store.

Watch this space for any new content!

Technogamer 21 February, 2012 @ 6:15 pm   5

ive been in since it opened to PSN+ (as i am a member) and out of a few million attempts i have yet to get into a game, its a perpetual “failed to connect” despite deleting and redownloading 4 times. :(

@ jakster123x

Yep.http://tinyurl.com/79lhsqg

Remember Acid sea,and Space are classed as small.Dust is large and :) I hope they feel as big,if not bigger than Eucadia.

@Technogamer

Strange, had it once or twice, and there was a spell in december were it was struggling. But not had that level of failures.

This wasn’t my game sorry SONY i’m not buying this..

Cool:P I had a go on the beta ages ago & it was FUN:P

Only 1 thing is i am not keen on the sprint button being on the ‘R2′ button? :( Can’t it be like in most FPS games i.e hold down the ‘L3′ button to sprint? ;)

    James Gallagher 21 February, 2012 @ 8:42 pm

Sorry to jump in but I kinda disagree on the last bit. In Starhawk you’re sprinting constantly, and it would be uncomfortable and hamper movement to be doing that all the time with L3. Just my two pence.:)

My first and only experience with this game (beta) was that I never managed to actually get IN the game. And so after a couple of days of error messages, perpetual loading screens and other fun stuff I finally decided to delete the whole thing… better luck next time perhaps!?

@ James Gallagher

Yeah i suppose so;) I think i have played to many FPS then :D i am so used to using ‘L3′ for sprinting after playing KillZone 3 + Resistance 3 + COD:MW3 etc etc
+ it is like Driving games i.e if they have the button layout of ‘L2′ for braking & ‘R2′ for acceleration i just can’t play them because i am so used to ‘X’ for acceleration etc etc(i am to set in my ways to change) LoL
It still was fun though the Starhawk beta;)

to be honest i didn’t bother downloading the beta invite i got a couple of months ago because i didn’t like warhawk’s gameplay in fact i liked nothing about warhawk but this time i may try the open beta for starhwk if of course i have the time for it. thanks & i hope the game does well. :)

Thought this went public weeks ago? I downloaded it off PSN 2 or 3 weeks ago already.

You were probably the lucky oones on PS+ or activated your network pass for Uncharted 3 :)

Denilson1981 22 February, 2012 @ 12:11 pm   14

@ techno gamer and Florence. The quick match option definatly has some issues as I can never use it and I know of others having the same problem. The short term answer is to use the game search option which shows you all the games currently in progress with the added bonus of seeing the game types and how many players are actually playing.

Florence, well done on the game it’s a great blend of tower defence and 3rd person shooter. I’m definatly
Interested in the full game.

I’ve been loving this game since The PS+ release. I seem to describe it to others as a sort of crossbreed between killzone and Command and conquer, of course in third person with hawks!! PEW PEW!

Absolutely incredible beta guys, i feel bad for the ones having network issues, my experiences with that have been very far and few between.

I love this game so much! It’s as fun as Warhawk and then some. I just hope they add online splitscreen and custom soundtrack in the full game.

I have no troubles connecting to matches but for some reason chat doesn’t seem to work for me. I can see mic icons on some players but I don’t hear them. Audio-device settings are fine so it’s not that.

Keep the updates coming guys and please please please PLEASE keep the beta going until realese-date. Pretty please!!!

loved Warhawk, loving the Beta, looking forward to my awesome clan of ‘mature gamers’ getting their teeth into this one. If you’re interested take a look here http://grumpy-old-men.enjin.com/

Are you able to stream these kinds of games on your Vita?

bezza1983 27 February, 2012 @ 3:33 pm   19

i love this beta, i loved warhawk too, more vehicles would b ace, big ships with 4 or 5 gunners on them would do it
