Hello again gamers! As I’m sure some of you will be busy with your new PlayStation Vitas, you may have forgotten about the usual update. No matter, I hope this serves as a good reminder to you.
The Starhawk Beta, previously a PS Plus member’s exclusive, is now available for all to take part in. Word of warning the beta is only up until March 7th so be sure to at least give it a try before you regret it, because we’ve all fallen into that “I’ll check it later” scenario.
SSX also gets a demo heading onto the PS Store. Also of note, this too is only available for a limited time. Looks like time must be spent wisely this week. The demo includes online play and a new feature dubbed RiderNet. With a handful of modes to check out, player’s ghosts of race times and scores will be uploaded to the SSX server. RiderNet will recommend challenges as players take on their friends’ ghosts or let their own ghosts chalk up wins and losses, even while they’re away from their console. Some of the features to look out for include;
- JT2, a race event in the Rockies and Bulldog, a night time trick event in New Zealand
- You’ll start off playing a Zoe Payne, but if you ‘Refer a Friend’ to the demo you’ll unlock Mac Fraser as a playable character.
- SSX Globe – Use the full google-earth inspired globe to navigate the Massive World.
- RiderNet – The SSX recommendations engine will be fully functioning and will recommend challenges to you
- SSX Soundtrack – A few choice cuts from the full soundtrack will be available in the demo
Definitely check out the demo and sample the return of a sleeping franchise.
More Blu-Ray titles making their way to the digital world, including Dead Rising 2: Off the Record and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X 2.
Finally, some more PS2 games have made their way, too including Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution and Sonic Heroes.
So, if you’re getting tucked into our new PlayStation family member or sticking with the PlayStation 3, I hope you have fun and I shall pop back in a week with another update.
Tata!

To those of ye using the “get it second hand!” crap in response to demands for PS1 classics I will simply say this: not all games work perfectly on a PS3. I got Spyro 2 and 3 recently and the cutscenes don’t play at all. I’d rather wait for an emulated version than have those cutscenes which simply don’t finish!

Could you from now on please let new games on the store be on a separate list (with own headline)from the “disc, now on demand” one? It’s kind of confusing when looking for new content when those two are on the same section.
Otherwise, I love this update every week!

so, you refuse to fix your mistake, and then i’ve got to phone your worthless support line on an 0844 number that you make money from to get a refund, knowing how long it’ll take and how clueless your support staff are i know it’ll cost more than the refund is worth.
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/Technical-Help/PSN-Pi ck-n-Mix-Minis-transfer-problems/m-p/15176525/highlight/true#M113367
“you can request a refund from our Network Team.
This would have to be done through the Support Line, who will then pass this over to be processed. If you have contacted them before and have a reference number you can mention this in any correspondance (or call) and they will be able to see your previous dealings so they can continue with your case from here.”
this is how you treat your paying customers?
it’s an insult, you shouldn’t be allowed to even do business in this or any other country.
much better companies have gone under while you inexplicably manage to keep operating.
proof there is no real justice in this world.

I know. But they got MORE games in one month. I keep waiting for something good to come along but nothing so far !!
All they do is trying to get new people to subscribe, they dont care about the old memberss! because they keep giving us the “second chance” stuff which most people got in the Plus before. I should’ve waited a year to get a subscription because i would be getting all last year’s stuff.

I never get a reply from anyone at Sony when I comment but maybe someone here nows if Virtua Fighter 4 has local multiplayer?? I ask because the Splinter Cell games were lacking that feature and I almost bought them…luckily I heard about it before I made the purchase

I am so pleased that PS2 Classics have finally hit the PSN. I am a huge Contra fan and was amaazed when i saw Neo Contra as 1 of the 1st released, awesome game. I don’t want to start the when is this game coming out but since Neo Contra is there, will we be seeing the legendary Contra: Shattered Soldier?, that is the best Run & Gun game i’ve ever played and i never ever thought i would get the chance to own it again but since PS2 Classics is up and Neo Contra is out, i’m sure Contra: Shattered Soldier will show up eventually.

@ BigPaja – Final Fantasy x is already coming to ps3 and vita in HD, why would you want the same game as a ps2 classic on the store?

Posted on 23 February, 2012 at 10:23 am by xchris2008x
@220 – God of war 1+2,Zone of the Enders 1 & 2, worms, metal gear 2+3,Beyond Good & Evil are ALL on ps3 in HD why would you want a SD ps2 port of them?
223
Posted on 23 February, 2012 at 10:50 am by BigPaja
@ xchris2008x 223 and 224:
There are plenty of reasons.
Because the heritage needs to be preserved in original form as well. Because some people would prefer the original over an HD remake for various purposes. Because they would be cheaper as PS2 classics. Because HD remakes don’t guarantee quality – case in point, the Splinter Cell trilogy. Because the HD upgrade does not make the games look dramatically better, it makes them look only slightly better. Because I’m sick and tired of people demanding HD remakes when it’s not necessary. Because no-one is willing to go all the way and make full HD remakes – they always settle for 720p. Because what would the PS2 Classics section be without these games?

Also, I already own some of the games on the list (like Final Fantasy X). I simply want diversity and completeness.

Hell, I even own the HD remake of the Sly Cooper Trilogy and I still want to see the games released as PS2 Classics.

Is it possible if you PlayStation Blog people could confirm some PSP/Vita functionality with me? I’m looking to purchase the Persona 2/3 bundle, but it’s not listed as Vita compatible, however, individually the games (Persona 2 and Persona 3) are listed as Vita compatible.
Is it possible the bundle will work on Vita and that it just hasn’t had it’s status updated? If the games are individually compatible surely the bundle will work, right?

First I’ve heard of this but I will find out.
If a 60Hz option exists in the game try using 50Hz.

@ Bealinator
In future use this site: http://www.ps3comp.com/view.asp?console=psone
The site has a database of PS1 games & displays what errors or bugs etc, are within each title, if any!
@ BigPaja POST NUMBER 224
That’s a bit strange that you would want them as PS2 Classics too, when you own the HD Trilogy! Nice lists though

@Jawad Can we have some response to the issue regarding the preorder discount vouchers not taking £5 discount off our chosen games? The whole thing has been a disaster & the lack of any communication to let us know what is happening is getting beyond a joke

Which game is for? We’ll need to investigate further.

So, being as the SCEE version of PS+ is vastly inferior to the SCEA offering, is it okay for me to make a US account and just subscribe to their PS+?
Plus I’d be able to buy games such as Trine 2. Maybe we should all just make US accounts and to hell with SCEE and it’s insulting updates.
Also, are you using the ‘classics’ in ‘PS2 classics’ ironically? 98% of games available are shovelware in my opinion.
I’m having a bitter day.

@Jawad It was for Escape Plan but price was only discounted by £3.50 not £5. Others were having same issues with other the games tho too. Just checked on the store tho & Escape Plan is now showing as £4.99 so guess its already been sorted for that title at least. Thanks for the quick response

theres no in game option to change the hz even changed my tv to ntsc and that didnt help, also there should of been an option when pressing the home button to change the screen size of a game because the only option in need for speed most wanted is to move the screen around and not adjust it,it makes all the words are nearly cut off screen

Are you only sending out UK pre-order voucher codes for the moment? I am yet to receive my email with the discount code. Was looking forward to Escape Plan, but won’t buy it without the discount

Hey, I have a question regarding the Far Cry 2 download for PS+ members. I had originally downloaded the trial version a little before the full game release came, but hadn’t yet tried it as it’s been hard to find a solid hour I can play without any interruptions.
When the full game came out, I went to download it but it’s the same file as the trial is, so I deleted my trial and re-downloaded it. However it still has a timer bar and says it will expire after I’ve played for one hour. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks for any help
(:

My apologies! Forgot this yesterday…
Trine 2 status update: nothing new.
We haven’t heard the QA results yet, I was expecting it by now so it’s very close… If we hear something today or Friday I will post a new message here, otherwise let’s wait for next week’s update (the game won’t be there but perhaps we’ll know the date finally)… Fingers crossed still!

Machinarium is released on the US store next week, so hopefully we receive it on Wednesday!
@ FrozenbyteGames
It’s great that SONY don’t even bother to liase with development teams, other companies & Customers, with regards to information that should be provided. All the focus is on the VITA at the moment & there’s always some excuse as to why certain things are delayed or encounter problems etc
By the time Trine 2 finally releases within our store, the US will have a discount on their release like what happened with Choplifter HD! It’s not fair on you guys or the gamers that are eagerly awaiting titles, that are in the pipeline etc!
Their needs to be an expansion or some sort of meeting to strategise what takes priority etc & that information is revealed on a regular basis to the loyal customers who deserve answers. I understand this is just a Blog etc, but why should we have to pay to contact Customer Support, when most of the time the employee on the other end of the line, has no clue whatsoever & offers no alternative to a situation. Customer Support needs to change to a free 0800 number, sooner rather than later!

One thing I dont understand is that USA PSN store operates more efficiently than EU PSN store. A lot of people especially me are begging for PSone classics such as Spyro 1,2 and 3, Crash bash ETC and they are also concerned with the fact that its available in US and not EU. Also we wouldnt want to get a second hand version as the games would be scratched pretty much and scratched psone games are less likely to work. Please At least get all 3 psone spyro games onto PSN store and I dont care if they have to be the American version because both EU and American version are pretty much the same and I wish I was in America so I would have got the Spyro classics already. Jawad, you are our only hope and please get this sorted As soon as possible and if you do think about it. The number of people especially me bugging you for the Spyro games will stop

I agree!
If we can’t get EU releases, they should just release them within the imports section, as it was stated last year that we would receive Japanese & American imports!!!! Just release them as American imports already! Especially Castlevania Chronicles, Symphony of the Night & the many RPGs!
