Hi everyone. This morning I’m pleased to bring you the news that Soul Sacrifice for PS Vita will be coming to Europe! The legendary Keiji Inafune of Comcept is leading this project with MarvelousAQL, with Yasunori Mitsuda and Wataru Hokoyama working on the music and soundtrack.
To celebrate this news, Inafune-San has kindly sent us the following video and comments about his vision for Soul Sacrifice. Enjoy!
What I wanted to illustrate in this game was a “reality blended into a fantasy world”. The word “fantasy” normally points to a story that is fictitious; however, with Soul Sacrifice I wanted to illustrate a “reality” within a fantasy that wasn’t sugar-coated. It’s not about focusing on the strange, but to flip the commonly held concept of what a fantasy theme should be with the concept of “reality”.
Cruelty is a reality in our world, and we have to make sacrifices and pay costs on a daily basis. I wanted to blend this “reality” theme into a fantasy world, one filled with magic, and create a new type of gaming experience that relied on the player making sacrifices in order to obtain great power.
There is a “dark pleasure” lying in between fiction and reality that none of us knew was there. If you simply think of it as a “dark fantasy,” then your expectations will be betrayed – but in a good way. Please look forward to Soul Sacrifice. It will be a game that players around the world will surely enjoy. — Keiji Inafune, Comcept

Another original title for vita like gravity rush. I am definitely buying it day one. My only request is that like typical japanese games, I hope this game also boasts a lengthy single player campaign and awesome story.

Hi Sahoo – more will be revealed in the coming months and we are confident you won’t be disappointed.

This is truly awesome news. I hope this leads the way for more Japanese games to be localised like this. The interviews looked promising as well and the whole pulling out your spine to use as a sword is just epic.

quick question: can you confirm that soul sacrifice and forsaken souls are two different franchises?
Posted on 1 June, 2012 at 12:57 pm by Olivier Banal
Hi tjsuperstar – “Forsaken Souls” was a regional WIP title. The game will be distributed in Japan, North America and Europe under the name of “Soul Sacrifice”.

Game looks awesome, hopefully it will have some different class systems or/and an open world, fingers crossed.
Do we have at least a release window, something like Q4 2012 or Q1 2013, a general time frame?
Also will this be featured at E3?

Hi Avengerrr – no official release date/window yet, sorry.
But I can confirm that the game will indeed feature at E3 \o/
