PlayStation Network is offline for scheduled maintenance from 16:00 on Thursday 26th July 2012 until 08:00 on Friday 27th July 2012, BST.
During the maintenance, you will be unable to access the following services:
- PlayStation Store on PS3, PSP and PS Vita.
- PlayStation Network Account Management.
- PlayStation Network Account Registration.
If you wish to play online during the maintenance, then you may be able to do so if you sign in to PSN before the start of the maintenance window. However, please note that all the services listed above will not be available, even if you are signed into the Network.
During this maintenance, you can continue to collect in-game trophies and these will be updated on your profile once PlayStation Network is back up and running.
If you have any questions about this down time, feel free to visit the official PlayStation Forums at community.eu.playstation.com where you can post your query and a member of the moderation team will get back to you.

Would be nice if you advised us what the maintenence was for. Your competitors do and don’t have to carry out half as mich maintenence

Good to see you already know how to make a maintenance heads-up post, Fred, because you will be doing them often if the last couple of months are to be followed

Maintenance can often be security updates as new ways to hack\grief are found every day and need constant patching to keep our systems secure. So the fact that the “competitors” don’t update half as much probably isn’t a good thing!

Thanks for telling us in good time Fred!
I remember once , we got informed only 1 hour before maintenance took place, and during the maintenance the store would update too, meaning the “special offers” would expire. So as a direct result of that I missed the sale, which is sad because there was something I really wanted to buy on sale, so I had to pay the full price instead…
So I’m happy to know about this maintenance beforehand, keep it up!
Btw, is there any reason we’re never told what these maintenances are about?

@KaneTheGoth
You are assuming that the competitors do not apply security fixed as often JUST because they do not take the whole service down to do so.
There should be no reason to take the whole service down to apply patches though, it should be possible to do rolling updates to the server farm so the service can remain online. I believe this is exactly how a certain competitor does it.
Its all too apparent that Sonys service is not as well written/managed when you have things like needing to sync trophies when their competitors are able to update achievements in real-time. Its why I still prefer gaming on a certain competitors console.
It saddens me that PS Vita has inherited this clunky system as it should have been so much more seamless, speedy and silky smooth. But instead it still needs to login to PSN too frequently, too slowly, and generally is just a poor experience. Fortunately for Sony its also an awesome portable games console, so we put up with it.

Hey,
Would it be possible to get the times for each different country impacted on these announcements if it’s not too much trouble?
Cheers

Always find if i’ve signed in at some point in the day I can still sign in.
Fred, bit of a random request for you.Since the last FW update I cant background download images using PS3′s browser anymore.Videos and Music still work fine.Images dont take long or anything, but it’s annoying if I’m trying to find screens and wallpapers for my brothers.
Can you see if this a FW related problem,or just a problem with my system.

So happy you’re the great member that makes me smile. =D

Can someone please advise when the network is going to be back online as this is 36 hours after it was scheduled to be back up and running again! Quite frustrating!
