PlayStation All-Stars Gamescom Reveal: Dante, Sackboy, Spike, Ratchet And Clank

Yo PlayStation.Blog readers! Gamescom is finally upon us, and you know what that means: time for some highly anticipated Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale reveals!

We’re thrilled to announce the inclusion of Insomniac’s Ratchet and Clank in PlayStation All-Stars! Given the wealth of tools and gadgets at their disposal, it made perfect sense to us to include them in our roster. This duo is strongest at mid-range, and they can cut off many points of entry with varied angles of attack. We made sure that iconic Ratchet and Clank weapons such as the Combusto Pistol, the R.Y.N.O., and Tesla Spikes are available for players to utilize on the battlefield. Clank joins in on the fight wielding his powerful Chronoscepter, and even Mr. Zurkon can be summoned to lend a hand!

Also joining the cast is Spike from Sony Computer Entertainment’s franchise Ape Escape – a character that was on our radar from early on. We here at the studio have fond memories of the original Ape Escape on the PlayStation, which was revolutionary at the time for introducing unique gameplay elements facilitated by the first Dual Shock controller. The Ape Escape series has cemented itself in PlayStation’s history, and it’s our pleasure to have Spike as part of our roster. He’s a well-rounded character that can compete at close range, or from a distance with traps and projectiles, including the classic R.C. Car. He comes brandishing not only his signature stun clubs, but also peculiar gadgets, crazy weapons, and, of course, apes!

Dante from Capcom’s Devil May Cry has also made his way into PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale! It was imperative that a character with such a rich history and dazzling play style be part of the cast, and Dante fans can finally pit their favorite demon hunter against heavy hitters like Kratos and Heihachi. Dante’s offensive capabilities and mobility allow players to be creative in their assault, ensuring Devil May Cry fans will feel right at home hacking, slashing, and shooting their rivals into oblivion with devastating weaponry and stylish combos.

Lastly, we are pleased to announce that Media Molecule’s Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet is joining the rumble! Fans have been clamoring for his inclusion in our roster, and we’re more than happy to oblige. We had a panoply of items and gadgets to draw inspiration from in forming Sackboy’s moves for our game, so we eventually decided we’d give him a quirky and curious moveset that makes him stand out from the rest of the cast. He can produce various objects, gadgets, and tools that have varying effects when in play, affording him a distinct playstyle that is likely to catch foes off guard. Sackboy can pester enemies from a distance with his Cakeinator, and bounce them back to a non-threatening distance with a bounce pad!

We are also excited to show you our newest level, Stowaways, taken straight from one of the more frantic sequences in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Stowaways is a unique stage that forces players to adapt to both long-range and close-quarters combat. The environment is constantly moving and changing, benefiting those who can quickly adapt. As usual, players can expect this Uncharted-themed level to be mashed up with elements from another franchise – which will it be this time?

PlayStation All-Stars: UNCHARTED - Stowaways

We’re also really excited about the promotional pricing announcement for PlayStation All-Stars that was made at today’s press conference. For all of you that purchase the PlayStation 3 version of PlayStation All-Stars – at retail or digitally through the PlayStation Network – you will be able to download the PS Vita version of PlayStation All-Stars from the PS Network at no additional cost. How awesome is that?!? Now you’ll be able to experience all of the great cross-save and cross-play features that PlayStation All-Stars has to offer on both the PS3 and PS Vita at one great price. So if you haven’t pre-ordered your copy yet, perhaps this news will pique your interest.

That’s all for now! We appreciate the continued support for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale from the fans. We still have plenty more surprises in store for everyone between now and our November 20 release date, so keep checking back for more news!

Something just dosen’t look right with Ratchet, he looks too shiny and his face is giving off a real evil vibe

Thats not dante. Use the ps2 dante, not the awful new one

hitman_stephen 14 August, 2012 @ 7:56 pm   4

My girlfriend is getting this and wants me to get it too, but i don’t really want it XD hopefully we can figure out a way so she buys it on her ps3 and i get her vita copy. Please god i hope theres a way, i want to make her happy but i’d rather spend £40 on a different game >_<

So instead of giving the fanbase the Dante that is actually associated with PlayStation you decided to promote Capcom’s upcoming bastardization of the game. Well you know what you can shove it Superbot because this POS is no tribute to the fanbase but a vehicle for product placement.

Also the characters and art style look awful, such a clusterfudge of a title. Abusing the IP’s this is.

Glad to see that physical copies of the ps3 version also get free vita version.

Knew Ratchet & Clank and Sackboy are gonna be confirmed along with Spike. Also one thing I hate to say about Dante. His new version sucks, what happened to the real ‘Dante’? :(

Besides he looked cool in his red robe with white hair and yet he appeared in that style from DMC 1, 2 and 3 in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 so why this ugly look? Fine, if Capcom wants to use the new version, I’m not even fussed. Not a fan of Devil May Cry at all.

still no crash or spyro? come on Sony without these guys you may not have been able to compete with xbox or Nintendo stop ignoring your history and fanbase and put them in already

fjernbetjening 14 August, 2012 @ 8:46 pm   9

Really happy to see Ratchet & Clank and Sackboy join the field. :D Now I just need Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Sora, and then it’s a pre-order.

I’d be really happy too if we saw Rayman or some Final Fantasy characters.

Wish thinking: (Probably not gonna happen) Kat from Gravity Rush, Nariko from Heavenly Sword, and Keats or Ellen from Folklore.

@9

Also, I forgot…

I’m REALLY HAPPY about the buy 1 get the other free deal, and I’m SUPER HAPPY that it goes for retail games too.

I really want the game, on my shelf with all the other great games, so you can see it in all it’s glory, rather than just having it on my harddrive, but it seems like a pefect fit for the Vita version to be the digital copy, NOW I CAN GET BOTH OF THOSE THINGS FOR THE PRISE OF 1! :D

Agree, they need some history too, yes Spike is from the PSone times, but they need something from the beginning.

Crash and Spyro was a part of my childhood. It would be great to have them in the game.

Snippy2442 14 August, 2012 @ 9:08 pm   12

@8,9,11

Both Crash and Spyro are owned by Activision now. They cannot be included in this game unless Activision gives it the okay, which they never will.

Super excited to see Ape Escape get represented in the game. I can feel the childhood memories flooding back already.

I’m assuming the “real” Dante will be alternate costume.

Add my vote for Crash and Spyro, and some square enix characters,Lara Croft, Cloud etc…

quackerzacher 14 August, 2012 @ 9:27 pm   15

looks amazing! keep it up superbot!

It will be so great if Sackboy could use your LBP costumes for alternatives!

Andrefpvs 14 August, 2012 @ 9:38 pm   17

Thanks, Dan. The Cross Buy feature sounds great.

I hope one of the unannounced characters is Kat from Gravity Rush. She’s the best new PlayStation character of the year, and so many PS Vita owners agree with me.

You just need to have a PS Vita character in the game for it truly to be a real tribute to the PlayStation family of systems and games.

Cool, and XBox All-Star! Dante of course, because the Dante associated with the PS brand isn’t here, and instead just a multiplat Dante from a game not even released yet and will be on Xbox 360 too, so if is a PS all star is an Xbox one too.

Meanwhile more iconic PS characters like Lara Croft in the PS1 days…completely absent. No FInal Fantasy characters from the PS1 only games that were huge.

Sony shouldnt have made this game if they cannot get the real PS All Stars.

Spartanspur 14 August, 2012 @ 11:54 pm   19

Wow cross-buy. This is what all vita owners want to hear going forward. Amazing stuff!

ieatpixels 15 August, 2012 @ 9:09 am   20

Ugh, wtf Sony. Spike is modelled off some odd japanese-exclusive title rather than the original Ape Escape we all grew up with.
I was a huge fan of the series back in the day and hadn’t heard of the Japanese title “Saru! Get You! Million Monkeys” until just now as I researched it.
Big wtf here.

and Dante? That’s just as bad. Like others said, you guys chose the model from the new game instead of the one from the Playstation exclusives. The old dante has appeared in atleast 6 games, this new one only 1 game. Why the heck would you choose the model everyone hates on. The Devil May Cry game’s Dante only has relevance to an all-star cast if you’re referring to the old one.

Also, while I’m at it, it’s the same case for Heihachi. Not as bad considering the reasoning behind the new model, but still, the Heihachi from the Playstation exclusive games is absent. Instead the one from Nintendo’s Tekken Prime is here.(he’ll also be in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, but that’s multiplat.)

I hope they have classic versions of these characters or something.
I’m back on the fence about getting this game.

ieatpixels 15 August, 2012 @ 9:10 am   21

@12, I hope that isn’t true. We HAVE TO have those characters in this game. Crash was Playstation’s icon in the 90′s. It was Mario=Nintendo, Sonic=Sega and Crash=Playstation. Huge part of Playstation. I’m sure sony could pass a few millions or whatever to Activision for the rights to have Crash and Spyro appear the game. Nothing is impossible.

Immortal-Wolf-- 15 August, 2012 @ 12:01 pm   22

Im sorry but i will not be buying a copy of PlayStation All-Stars. As PlayStation All-Stars is just another copy from other game titles. Truth be told PlayStation All-Stars is just another SONY scam to make us Suckers i mean customers to buy PlayStation All-Stars. Do what i do don’t buy this silly PlayStation All-Stars £49.99 SONY SCAM!!

sasukeluffy 15 August, 2012 @ 12:13 pm   23

Stop complaining about Dante. There was supposed to be some multiplat charachters, and so we have Big Daddy and Dante.
My vote for Crash & Spyro too. Crash w/ apple gun thingy and Spyro with flames from his mouth.
Gonna buy this for PS3 as download still.

StolenDiagram 15 August, 2012 @ 12:17 pm   24

Sadly I don’t believe £49.99 will be the RRP for the game. Sony doesn’t do free, they might mark on the box that the extra version is free, but you can bet your buffet this will retail for nearer the 60 or even 70 pound mark as a result.

Regardless, until I’m convinced that this is anything other than a Smash Bros “homage” I will be viewing spending my hard earned monies on the game with extreme trepidation!

Stonesthrow 16 August, 2012 @ 2:09 am   25

Ok, showed off a couple of multiplatform characters. Now I’m waiting for Old snake and some other epic ones.
