Hello everyone. Today is a big day for anyone who counts themselves as a petrolhead, gearhead or any other idiom you might care to mention – it’s also potentially quite an exciting day if you don’t, as what’s incoming may well convert you *winks*.
So what’s the reason? PlayStation Store today will see the launch of a brand new set of DLC for Gran Turismo 5. Not only that, but also in stores today is Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition, the definitive version of the original GT5 game.
If you’ve been reading PlayStation Blog recently you should be well aware that GT5: Academy Edition comes brimming with a whole range of the DLC released since the launch of GT5.
This new edition of the game comes with more than 30 extra vehicles and karts, including series creator Kazunori Yamauchi’s Nissan GTR which he and the inaugural GT Academy winner Lucas Ordonez took to a class win at this year’s Nurburgring 24H race.
Plus, you’ll also get the chance to get to grips with new courses, such as Spa Francorchamps, and additional extras including an exclusive competition – GT Academy Challenge where you could win a VIP trip to Le Mans 2013 for you and a companion. Not to mention the special 25% discount voucher for the lovely garments to be found within the GT Boutique!
On top of that GT5: Academy Edition includes the full set of functionality updates since launch that have helped finesse and improve upon GT5, helping it to become one of the best-selling racing games of this console generation.
The DLC also launching today alongside GT5: Academy Edition delivers the Subaru BRZ S ’12, Nissan GT-R N24 GT Academy ’12 (included with the GT5: Academy Edition) and Honda Weider HSV-010 (SUPER GT) ’11 race car.
As if all this tremendous news wasn’t enough there’s a brand new functionality update out today to get your hands on too.
GT5: Academy Edition is available at a suggested retail price of €29.99/£20.41 and the DLC will be priced at €0.99/£0.79 each – more news on both can be found right now at gran-turismo.com. See you on the track!

Great for those that don’t already have the game, some mega content stuffed onto that disc. Maybe even better trading an old GT5 and getting that, might end up getting DLC cheaper

As the current GT5 installation takes 11 GB of space, will this fit on the new Super Slim 12 GB model?

@ Penrose
Do you still have to have at least 10GB space free on your HDD??
That’s the major factor that put me off, resulting in trading it in several weeks later.

Hello Catkiller1 – the recommended space is 10GB although you can work with 256MB

Given that both this and the 12 gig Super Slim PS3 are released on the same day, and that GT5 takes up about 10/11 gig as others have said), will you be able to play the game on the console?

I missed out on GT5, but it looks like I may have to pick this up. Will todays DLC be included on the new edition of GT?
Does anybody know how much the total cost of all the DLC is that is included with this version of GT5?

Does Academy Edition support old save-games from original game?

If the edition doesn’t include last DLCs, then it doesn’t include last patch 2.08 too and it’s release version is 2.07, isn’t it?
And when I’ll buy it, It’s necessary to update it to 2.08 – right? %)

I remember playing GT3 with my older cousin when I was young, but as I got old enough to buy GT4 for myself I suddenly realised; I am not the kind of talented (virtual) driver who can handle racing sims. I have played a huge variety of games but I am genuinely not skilled enough for this series! And that is not a criticism, it comes out of respect. Respect and fear. LOL.
Long story short your series is awesome, and I stayed away from the original release as I knew I was way out of my depth, but at this price and with all this included (making even more use of the blu-ray inspires yet more respect), I can’t help but be tempted…

@Penrose
purchased this last week, two things which alot of people seem to be wondering about
Twin Motegi DLC – where is it? it didn’t come with this pack despite as far as im aware the Academy edition being sold as containing every piece of DLC prior to today’s DLC. A friend also confirms this, many GTplanet users confirm the same issue. The Scion car which was released the same week as Motegi is included with Academy.
Is there any reason why some of the DLC doesn’t work offline specifically the Racing pack and some of the track packs. If I boot into this when offline all of the racing pack cars can’t be used – this is on the account to which the DLC is registered, im the sole user of the account, no interest at all in using it on a sub account. Its odd to me at least that that DLC for a game which a large amount of users would play solely in singleplayer can’t be used without a constant connection to the internet.
Any feedback or update appreciated Penrose, I’d also add that if a constant internet connection is required to use DLC it should be printed on the back of the box.
