Hopefully you’ve already read my previous blog post about Hell Yeah!, so today’s post is a shameless attempt to remind you of two things. Firstly, it’s out today free-of-charge for PlayStation Plus subscribers as October’s ‘Game of the Month’.
Secondly, it’s out today, for everybody! So, if you’re not a Plus member, you can still get your hands on the ‘devil rabbit prince’ Ash. There is also a trial of the game available, so you can take Ash and his jetpack driller out for a spin before you fully commit to the carnage that awaits.
Below I thought I’d add some handy bullet points to help you decide just how much you want to download this great title, whilst you can also give your eyeballs a treat and watch the launch trailer too.
- Tension-relieving faux-gore action! Hell Yeah! helps you unwind and clear your mind after a hard day by allowing you to explore the four corners of Hell and exterminating monsters in a cheerful, yet challenging, atmosphere.
- Drill to Kill. Shooting is fun, but shooting from a super sawing jetpack that drills through walls and squashes monsters into chunks is better.
- This game is too big for you. There are ten huge game worlds with various secret areas and side-quests, as well as hundreds of objects, weapons, and monsters to collect. If you’re a completionist then I’m afraid you’re in trouble here.
- Make Hell a cleaner place. There are one hundred unique monsters to exterminate – some are rude, others are really ugly, but they are equally deserving of death.
- “Finish him” moves that aren’t for the squeamish. Inflict ultimate humiliation on the monsters of Hell using over 25 deadly “finish him!” mini-games.
- Pimp my Drill. Collect loot and spend your hard-earned cash in Hell’s boutiques, with a loving array of weaponry and awesome upgrades available. You can also pimp both Ash and his drill through the many customisation options that unlock as you progress through Hell.
Hell Yeah! is available for £9.99/€12.99/AU$19.95 – and you can also grab various avatars from our selection which launched last week.
IT’S YOU AGAINST ALL HELL. IT’S HELL YEAH!

Paging Mike! Mike to thread please!
Mr Kebby is on his way – please feel free to fire questions/abuse/marriage proposals at him.

I’m glad you’ll be able to get your hands on it too!
As Fred says, I’m here for your questions, abuse (because I so miss it from my previous life here), positive reinforcement, and whilst marriage proposals will be most flattering, I’m sure Mrs. Kebby would object

Wow ps plus has been really good lately. Just wanted to ask if you will be having a survey like the us blog for plus content to see what people have liked. Also bulletstorm was a good choice as its a decent game that didnt sell that well so many people wont have it. Driver san fransico is really good but sold badly, would be a good plus game
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 11:24 am by Mike Kebby
Plus has been very good, and with Hell Yeah! it gets even better
I can’t comment on anything else about the service I’m afraid though, as I don’t work for SCEE.
(Bulletstorm however, is a very solid, and fun, FPS, and well worth your time downloading)

welcome back mike it’s always nice to see a ex-SCEE rep on here blog, thank you for given us a free Plus game.
off-topic is EU store update getting Sonic adventure2 with DLC battle mode & nights into dreams with added christmas nights today or are we in for the normal SCEE dissatisfaction once again?
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 11:21 am by Fred Dutton
Yep, they will be on the store late today
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 11:26 am by Mike Kebby
Always good to be back Skookie!
Fred has already beaten me to it, but yes the PS Store today seems to be sponsored by SEGA, as we have three games going live (one of which is indeed Sonic Adventure 2)!

Sure thing, you’re looking at about 2GB of awesomeness. Hope you have enough space. If not, you can always delete some of that non-SEGA content you have on there

A totally random question but are any more Mega Drive classiscs coming up?
Especially wondering Phantasy Star 2-4 and Shining Force 1&2
Phantasy Star 4 is amongst my top 5 favorite games ever (And my first contact with RPGs ever!)

Thanks for including this in PS Plus, I’m sure that will help to reach more gamers
Am I right in thinking that this is single player only or are there any multiplayer modes?
Cheers
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 11:46 am by Mike Kebby
That is the plan, the more people getting their hands on this title, the better
It is indeed single-player only, I can’t imagine how insane this game would get if it supported two players…!

Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 11:41 am by Chocobo115
And I get ignored again. Better just say “Can’t comment on that” or “As far as I know there’s no plans of that at the moment” or”I can at least try to pass on the suggestions but I can’t gurantee anything” than just ignoring it all in all :/
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 11:45 am by Mike Kebby
Give me a chance Chocobo115, sheesh
There are no plans in the pipeline for any further releases I’m afraid, sorry.

I’ve been looking forward to this since it was first annouced! To get it for free is just double-awesome!
Sega and Arkedo are a great match, will there be any more games for you both in the near future? Maybe something for Vita? (Had to ask!)
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 12:01 pm by Mike Kebby
I really hope so – they’re a super talented bunch!!
I’ve always said that Hell Yeah! feels like a classic SEGA game, it harks back nicely to when the company made some really unique (mental) games in the ’90s

I’m still a bit on the fence on this game, as it seems a lot about throwing as much as possible at the gamer, instead of throwing high quality things at said person. Quantity over quality, if you get what I mean.
That said, the reviews are pretty good, Fred is very enthousiactic about it, and as a PS Plus subscriber, I’m now convinced to at least give it a fair chance. So, I’ll be downloading this one this evening, and will give it a serious spin. (That’s the beauty of PS Plus: trying out games you otherwise wouldn’t have bought!)
I’ll share my thoughts on this one tomorrow.
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 12:01 pm by Mike Kebby
I’ll definitely be interested to hear your thoughts

Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 12:06 pm by BluSpykz
This game looks pretty good, and with Sega behind it I’m in for sure.
Shame though, I think a game like this would’ve worked so much better on the Vita than the PS3. Hopefully, one day I’ll be able to play a vita-optimized Hell Yeah! WOTDR game.
But for now, PS3 will do. And free IS my favourite price tag of all.
Thanks.

Can’t wait to download this, and for free! Thanks for bringing it to Plus.
Also I absolutely adored Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and will be getting Transformed.
Do you know if there’ll be a demo for it? Even if there isn’t I’ll get it. :p

You are most welcome.
I you adored the first one, you will want to marry Transformed and keep it all to yourself…it’s fantastic!!

@ Mike
Played the trial from the US store & I think it’s great!
The visuals, comic humour, & Kill QTEs are great.
It had a sort of Earthworm Jim theme to it with regards to the location etc. Were any of the early Earthworm Jim team involved?
Looking forward to the full release. Crazy, Zany fun
Also hurry up with Shenmue 1 & 2 HD, Yakuza 1 & 2 HD collection. More SEGA retro titles like Streets of Rage 3 etc please, that we missed out on to the other console, that we won’t talk about!
Posted on 3 October, 2012 at 12:37 pm by Mike Kebby
None of the team worked on Earthworm Jim, however, I imagine they have been influenced by it somewhat, as well as many other games though; there are a ton of gaming references throughout Hell Yeah!
Enjoy finding them all

Hope SEGA makes a VALKYRIA CHRONICLES for the VITA with Online Multiplayer Skirmishes.
I can bet people would buy it even if it’s priced heftily.
That would make my day..
And @Mike WELCOME BACK…. I like your Renji Abarai Avatar—-BLEACH—

Great to see some free SEGA games on Plus!
2 questions for The Kebster:
1. Is Plus EU getting the great reduction on Alex Kidd they got in the US? (1 dollar instead of 5)
2. Any updates/news about the upcoming Toejam & Earl games? Please get them into Plus (free or discounted)!

Great to see this type of game come straight to IGC. The art style really appeals to me. It looks like a gamers game and I can instantly tell that it will appeal to fans of the genre.
Another good game that should be on IGC is JoeDanger! Since JoeDanger2 is coming out I think it would be a perfect chance to please PS+ members with an amazing game AND encourage more sales of JoeDanger2. Good idea? Make it happen!

A question for Mike tho, is there any chance of seeing digital versions of Yakuza (3 and/or 4)on PSN as they are next to impossible to find in stores over here?

I would love to see some of the older Gran Turismo games come up. They are the most enjoyable game in the driving catergry. So this this request is for them just to become available on the store, With a discount or free would be even better!!!!

I tried out the game and have to say, awesome!!
So many easter eggs so little time (including the famous over 9000 gag)
Gotta say Mike very well done to SEGA on releasing Sonic Adventure 2 and it’s Battle DLC and NiGHTS. You guys should be impressed. =D

Hello Mike,
as promised, I report back on my first impressions on Hell Yeah! Had some trouble downloading it (3x corrupt download), so, didn’t get to play it until yesterday. Now that I’m up to enemy 17, I can give you my verdict.
I can confirm that I’m officially off the fence, and I like the game. Actually I like it a lot better than expected. Where the trailer mostly showed total mayhem, and the PR focus on the 100 ‘enemies’ put me off at first, actually playing the game, I didn’t experience either.
The 100 enemies didn’t result in 100 mediocre ‘levels’, each with an endboss, which is great. The ‘doors’ to limit your progress based on how many of those enemies you slayed works pretty well, as it makes sure you don’t get lost easily. The map and ‘unzoom’ are neat additions. Gameplay was quite solid, without the expected mayhem. One gripe: Why have a life-bar if you incorporate instant-death? Those rotating things are a nuisance, and earned me the “Quick rabbit!” trophy without even trying. I hope they aren’t used too excessively later on.
Graphically, the game looks pretty smooth, with on-par colors, resolution and artwork.
All in all, a solid game.
So, count yourself one fan richer (thanks to PS Plus)!
