I promised you exciting news, so here it is! SingStar, the ultimate competitive singing game for PlayStation 3, will now be available to everyone in SCE Europe territories (as well as Australia and New Zealand) as a free download straight from the XMB.
Yes, that’s right, no more need to slot in a disc to get that party started. Simply install SingStar from the XMB and you will be able to start singing in no time, share your performances with the community and visit the SingStore to get hold of more great tracks for your collection.
I’ve listed all the great things about SingStar on the XMB for you below but I am most excited about the fact that you can now play SingStar with your PlayStation Eye camera. We have spent many an afternoon testing this in the office and are pretty pleased with it so please let us know what you think! This will only work for single player mode, so if you’re gearing up for a serious SingStar battle, you’ll obviously still need to plug in some mics.
If you’re brand new to SingStar and have never bought a song from the SingStore before, there are also some short demo songs available for you to download and try out.
SingStar on the XMB:
- The SingStar game client is FREE, no disc required!
- Sing with PS Eye
- Compatible with SingStar microphones, official PlayStation Wireless headsets and common USB microphones
- Short demo songs available for download for new SingStore customers
- Easy access PS2 and PS3 disc swap from song carousel
- Use PSP or PS Vita to create playlists with SingStar Remote
- Instantly share your performances with the SingStar community and your friends on Facebook
- Acquire new trophies
SingStar will be added to the XMB very soon. Follow us on Twitter @SingStarHQ and keep your eyes peeled on www.singstar.com for more news and a confirmed release date.

@ukcrazyguy
With all due respect I am simply upset that they pushed this “product” on me with absolutely no prior warning.
I agreed to two changes, in this update but they slipped a third one under the radar, without my knowledge or consent.
This is My playstation3, my own little piece of the community.
Should not I, have a say in what software has pride of place on my own little piece of Sony?
I understand if you think Sony can bully us with bloatware and adware, but as it stand, my opinion is opposite yours. It’s as simple as that, a no tears solution.
You obviously don’t think it’s that big a deal to have your system’s data filled up with useless content without your consent, but I at least want a say what software uses up my harddrives data. It’s not big of a file, I know, but I can use that data for ps1 and ps2 saves instead. And I would rather that.

Hej Nina and the rest of Sony crew!
I guess I’m not the first to ask how to get rid of the Singstar icon?
I’ve never liked Singstar at all and now I feel really annoyed everytime I start my PS3 and go to the game section, to see the icon slammed in my face.
If your answer is “you can’t”, then my next question is..
Why did you do this in the first place and how much did you get paid from the Singstar team to do this?
Thanks in advance for your answer!

Have to say, shows how desperate Singstar is getting, this app is for making Singstar more money from Ps3 owners who don’t own or have never heard of Singstar before, launched just before xmas to get new owners as well. Stop wasteing money on this and just give us better upto date songs instead.

@1202
I’ve just noticed a fourth. I can no longer access the store through remote play, I used to queue up the Plus stuff at the beginning of every month on my Vaio so that it could be downloading ready for when I finish work, but it’s no longer accessable. There’s not been one good thing about the last ‘update’.

Why did we get the new store before America? We were used as guineapigs.
Why have we got SingStar and not America? Because we’re the guineapigs.
Sony, if you think SingStar is so popular, make SCEA do the same with SingStar as SCEE has………..I dare you!

I cannot remember I have ever posted on this blog, but this really makes me feel I want to give my opinion:
Please make this icon on the XMB removable, it is very annoying, and has a very negative impact on my user experience.
I have just bought my second PS3, as my first launch model broke after 5.5 years of usage. Thank you for taking the feedback of your loyal customers into account.

Why on Earth is that… that THING still there?! I don’t CARE how fun and exciting you think it is. It obviously ISN’T, or you wouldn’t feel the need to make the icon unremovable. Seriously, how good can a game be if the publishers think they forcibly need to stuff it in our personal gamelist in order for us to even look at it?
I am a grown woman, sony, not a six-year old girl. Your average userbase is 30 years old, did you know that? I don’t need this junk and I certainly don’t need it clogging up my PERSONAL gamelist!
You know what the sad part is? I’m willing to bet that those few singstar fans out there that actually like this, will be embarrased to play the game because it associates them with this failtastic screwup.
Obviously, this is a test to see how we’ll react to ads in our system other than the optional (as it should be, we paid for our systems!) ‘whats new’ section.
Just how stupid do you think we are?

This is a fantastic PR stunt by Sony, not only is every PS3 owner going to see a SingStar icon but thousands of them will complain across the internet about the icon being mandatory, throwing even more advertisement out there (and we all know there no such thing as bad advertisement).
I have no interest in these singing/dancing games and never will (Specially not now), and there is no valid reason for not allowing users to remove the icon once they have seen/read it.
Looking at the reply’s here it’s just a simple demonstration of bullying,
Customer: Thanks for offering a great thing, but we don’t want this icon on show, it wasn’t in the list when we agreed the terms?
Reply: Thanks for your comments, but tough!
Pathetic.

25 pages on the blog post
55 pages on one thread discussing Nina and the Singstar ad (now closed due to “going off topic”. No warning given at all, makes me suspicious that Sony didnt want 55 pages of complaints on the most visited area of their forums)
19 pages on another with a poll indicating that 89% of 1600 people wanting the option to hide the ad or remove it entirely.
9 days later and Sony are “discussing our concerns”.
What. A. Farce.

Im’ afraid I have to add my thumbs down here too. I really don’t want the icon on there as, however great the game is and it’s free to play changes, I just am not interested in it. Hey, can’t be into everything right!?
Please give us a way of removing the icon.

@Comment 1209,
Europe gets lots of cool things that the U.S. gets left out in the cold on (The extra special collector’s edition of GT5 for one).
There are many other great things that Europe gets either first or exclusively, so your precious continent SHOULD have the exclusive pleasure of being Sony’s guinea pig as well.
You should instead be thanking America right now for your continued usage of the English language, because all Europeans would be speaking German right now if it wasn’t for our help in the war.
You guys don’t like to be reminded of that one, do you? That’s ok, I don’t mind.

@jrod0823
The biggest reason the u.s. helped win in Europe was due to Hitler sending his troops against Russia .He depleted his armies and his supplies and did not win in Russia. If it had not been for the Russians and the struggle on the western front with the japanese (pearl harbour) the USA would not have won the war in Europe or even got involved. but thank YOU for all YOUR efforts in helping retain my native tongue
your cookie is in the post sorry in the mail!

America comes late to two wars and for this they should be rewarded by not having airbrushed plastic zombies forced onto their consoles , a usable store and reliable feedback from staff? that makes a tonne of sense o_o.

@ ‘our saviour’
You do know that hollywood made up 90plus per-cent of whatever history your choosing to believe, right ?, But, as you said yourself the US did ‘help’, And for that i and many others ARE grateful, btw, GT5 extra special ed, .. man i just never knew how lucky it is being a brit/euro, anyways no disrespect meant to your Country, but sony do see you’s as the ‘golden ones’, but unfortunately this is mostly at the EU’s expense, hence the ill will, wrongly aimed at you’s, sometimes.

Am not so sure, true what you say did have biggest effect against axis, but, sending his armies into Russia Should of worked, militarily it was as sound a strategy as any other (mad) battle plans, his biggest mistake was dividing them, basically naming himself head general and diverting from the original plan, which many educated military ‘types’ agree would of, well probably would of suceeded, up till then i believe, apart from minor ‘setbacks’ everything his generals planned worked out, thank God that he took over when he did, and for the stenght of ussr. clearly though, as you say, that was the beginning of the end.

what else is there left for them to discuss?
maybe what to replace the singstar icon with? is there a hello kitty game? or maybe a BT infinity icon?

Posted on 1 November, 2012 at 8:22 pm by chiefhh
If this experiment is considered a success, then this icon will not be the last one. (ok, it was not the first one either)
Anyways, same time next year, we have to scroll over 15 icons until we reach the game we actually want to play.

Something I’ve learnt from this. I won’t be installing future firmwares till at least a couple weeks have past and I’ve read forums to check nothing nasty has been sneaked in or broken.
Should always I know but got lazy, also they sort of force you to update sometimes by locking you out of multiplayer and store.

for the first time since ps3 release ive looked at custom firmware websites… the fact that ive even considered this due to singstar worries me, i dislike doing things like it(even my iphone isnt jailbroken) but sony seem to be ignoring the problem, i want an answer one way or the other, will we get an update that allows us to remove it? or is it permanent? theres nothing else for them to discuss is there?
1226
Posted on 1 November, 2012 at 9:07 pm by JayDann
Allow us to remove this already, we’re already supporting your company by buying your hardware. You’ve got paying customers and now you’re shoving things down their throat just to squeeze an extra dime? I’ve got a feeling lots of hardcore gamers will head over to Gates in next console round. They might have to pay to go online but at least they’re not being harassed by the ones they’re supporting.

@chrisandshiva
We can thank Japan. If Japan hadn’t bombed Pearl Harbor, then Americans would never have gotten angry at Japan, and might never have joined the war. That and the fact that Hitler pulled a Napoleon by thinking he could conquer the Soviets with just half of his army. So basically the Axis overreached and the Allies made them pay for it.
oh and $ony get singstar off my XMB, MY being the dominant word!!!!

@kieranmarsh & @rancidman2
You’re emails seem to imply that Sony are giving people choice with either their biscuit type or hot drink selection.
The reality of the matter is that 95% of staff wanted Chocolate Hobnobs and Coffee so Sony management decided that they should all have Rich Tea and hot chocolate. Then, when the 95% complained, the management then bolted themselves behind a door, only shouting sarcastic comments through the keyhole before poking a single sheet of paper under the door saying that the management are aware that the masses are not happy and they are looking into the matter…

It’s my second comment here as I am forced to remind of my request for giving us the option to DELETE THE ICON.
Sony is chilling, “discussing” while such a WAVE OF RAGE is still out here. Can’t believe it’s happening.
Dear Sony count how much did you earn by adding THIS ICON and count how much you already sadly lost. Damage has been made. Not sure if reversable but the faster you make some decision the better.
It’s unbeliveable that such a great company made such a mistake, denies to admit it and above all, denies to do anything about it fast enough.
Sony is/was such a great company, what happened? It’s a pity

Also a little annoyed at the silence from Sony, managed to play some BF3 last night and ignore that fact that SingStar was sticking out like a sore thumb but now its the principal of the thing.
Something so easy to fix, make the icon appear on update and make it so it can be removed/hidden when accessed and installed or declined.
Not a happy customer at the moment

I was considering buying Singstar for my girlfriend for xmas, but the intrusive way in which the app has been forced upon all Playstation owners severely put me off, but I was still considering it even though I am one of many loyal Sony customers that is aggrieved by the ugly app’s lingering presence on my XMB.
However, having read the childish, rude, and frankly arrogant responses from Nina Scherer on this blog I have decided not to buy the product.

Heh, mrbigg123, I did buy a Xbox 360 earlier this week. Currently having lots of fun with the exclusive game Lost Odyssey, one of the better JRPGs of this console generation for sure.
JRPGs is also an area I felt been lacking as far as the PS3 is concerned, which is unfortunate after both the PS1 and PS2 basically were the kings of JPRGs. But out of the best JRPGs of this console generation, Lost Odyssey (360), Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) and Radiant Historia (DS), none are available for the PS3.
Anyway, back ontopic, being able to delete the Singstar icon would be very nice.
1244
Posted on 3 November, 2012 at 7:23 am by Alestes
Also, talking about the 360. I have two friends who are both very huge Singstar fans even if I never fallen for the games myself, but one of them left the PS3 and went the 360 route instead a while ago, and now she’s playing Dance Evolution Kinect and so on instead.
The reason for this is simple, it’s because the digital song purchases are locked to a specific console and not to her PSN account. Imagine her disappointment to come home and see there been a burglary and she lost her PS3 and other things. And then buy a new PS3 only to realise she can’t even sing the old songs any longer without paying for them again. Since that happened she haven’t really turned on the PS3.
1245
Posted on 3 November, 2012 at 8:35 am by Alan2112
@Alestes Tales of Graces f for the PS3 is seriously one of the best jrpg’s i’ve played, you should check it out.Also for the xbox check out Infinite Undiscovery great game.

love the idea of this being a app on the ps3 will be great for parties and christmas time , but …. yes this is the only thing i can find with this . Dont you think its a bit expensive ???? your trying to charge around a £1.00 give or take a bit for each song! surly you could do some sort of deal ? maybe sell them as packages ? I enjoy things like this as they are great for parties but for me to have various songs this will cost me a fortune

Posted on 3 November, 2012 at 2:32 pm by ZippyJohn
Well it seems pointless to complain to sony about the singstar app as they dont really care, they are just trying to save a failing product by forcing it on people in the hope that they will buy into it. Seems like a counter productive move to me, yes it may turn singstars profits around, but sony have just alienated thousands of people many of which like myself are considering changing systems now. Yes the icon in itself isn’t that bad as you just skip over it, BUT its the principle behind it. Is this just the start of a massive ad campaign that will plight our ps3′s for ever more. I used to like the ps3 as it was a break from the constant torrent of advertising we see now, but seems Sony have sold out the gamers to try and force karaoke games on us that the majority of gamers don’t want anything to do with. It shows how far off the marketing team are from understanding the average user and the reason most people bought the system.
