I promised you exciting news, so here it is! SingStar, the ultimate competitive singing game for PlayStation 3, will now be available to everyone in SCE Europe territories (as well as Australia and New Zealand) as a free download straight from the XMB.
Yes, that’s right, no more need to slot in a disc to get that party started. Simply install SingStar from the XMB and you will be able to start singing in no time, share your performances with the community and visit the SingStore to get hold of more great tracks for your collection.
I’ve listed all the great things about SingStar on the XMB for you below but I am most excited about the fact that you can now play SingStar with your PlayStation Eye camera. We have spent many an afternoon testing this in the office and are pretty pleased with it so please let us know what you think! This will only work for single player mode, so if you’re gearing up for a serious SingStar battle, you’ll obviously still need to plug in some mics.
If you’re brand new to SingStar and have never bought a song from the SingStore before, there are also some short demo songs available for you to download and try out.
SingStar on the XMB:
- The SingStar game client is FREE, no disc required!
- Sing with PS Eye
- Compatible with SingStar microphones, official PlayStation Wireless headsets and common USB microphones
- Short demo songs available for download for new SingStore customers
- Easy access PS2 and PS3 disc swap from song carousel
- Use PSP or PS Vita to create playlists with SingStar Remote
- Instantly share your performances with the SingStar community and your friends on Facebook
- Acquire new trophies
SingStar will be added to the XMB very soon. Follow us on Twitter @SingStarHQ and keep your eyes peeled on www.singstar.com for more news and a confirmed release date.

I am making a firm commitment to not purchase anything from the PS store until I am given an option to remove this from my XMB. If I do buy a PS3 game I will make sure it is second hand so no money goes to Sony. I realise this will hurt developers too and I’m sorry for that, but this is the only way I can realistically apply pressure on Sony and show them that there *are* consequences to showing such blatant disregard for their customers.

Look, you really need to let people delete your crappy app from their systems. I bought my system to but stuff I WANT on there. I DONT WANT some singing game on my system. I play shoot em ups where you get to blow peoples brains out of their heads! You really think people like me would care for a singing game!? And come on! We all know that this app is stuck on our systems because the game is so (CENSORED) that you cannot market it properly other than trying to force it on people! People who want it will go buy it or whatever. You do not need to shove it on everyone’s systems. You are taking our freedom away from us in a small extent. Ile also say that people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(everything must be organised and tidy) may be caused stress by this because having something they do not want or need is keeping them from having their stuff organised! Well I don’t have OCD but I still like to be organised and I want your (CENSORED) off my system. I dont care if “ohh you dont have to install it bla bla bla”. I want it off my damn system that I payed a hundred and odd for! Lear how to market properly and stop stealing people’s organisation and freedom from their ps3 systems.

Just been reading about customers paying for ps allstars which turns out to be a trail version only. Upon contacting customer services they are being fobbed off & no 1 is replying to their questions on the ‘heads up’ blog. That when added to this garbage being on our xmbs just damages sonys rep even more.

I will also state the logic here. If people like the game, they will keep it. People who don’t like the game will remove it or in this case attempt to. Sure you have a handful of people who keep the game, but by not letting people who don’t like it remove it, you are not gaining any additional customers as they will not play it because they do not like it (DUH), furthermore, you are basically annoying them more by not allowing them to remove it from their systems they purchased with their money that they worked for. If advertising was your goal, you achieved it as everyone with a ps3 has to look at your damn app every time they want to fire up a game. So are you going to let us remove it? Or are you going to make ‘singstar’ remembered by over 50% of playstation users as an annoying scourge that they didn’t ask for? Are you going to answer my question or are you going to ignore me? And if you do answer me, can you provide me with a logical answer to what I have asked and not some ten year old trash talk?

Latest from Peter at UK_HOCService@scee.net
“I regret that I’m unable to provide any information on the possibility of the SingStar icon being changed to an optional download as is the case in North America. I can certainly understand the additional frustration this has undoubtedly caused but I regret that I am unable to comment on differences in how content is delivered by our sister company, Sony Computer Entertainment America. Once again, your comments have been taken on board and passed to the relevant teams however we remain in a position where we’re unable to offer any further comment on this matter at this time.”
BTW interesting to see how my request for removal of double post above still hasn’t been actioned – guess it shows how much the mods are actually checking this blog…!

Of course they’re check. I’ve had posts removed from here just because I was critical of SCEE. If you’re a fanboy you can get away with racism, making threats and hissy fits but if you question SCEE your post wont get approved.
Interestingly the Blog manager for the EU Blog isn’t even based in Europe.

I guess all that needs to be said has been said here already, but I still want to add a voice of discontent.
There was no need to make it a forced and unremoveable item especially if your sister company had the right idea of making it optional. I don’t even want to know why this decision was made anymore as long as you get rid of it as soon as possible. To me there is no arguable reason as to why this icon is cluttering my console.
Remove it or make it optional! I’ve been a loyal PS-follower from the beginning until now even in the face of all the problems Sony has had and if you’re invading my PRIVATE SPACE again I’ll make sure to never be your customer any more.

Please please please remove the Singstar launcher from it’s place on my PS3. I hate the way Iu invades my Theme – which I paid money for. Tuck it out of the way somewhere if you must, but just get it out of my sight.

@ Dragomyrr
I’ve been buying/borrowing second-hand games since this started. I totally agree with you on the fact of not giving Sony another penny until this is resolved.
@ All
The T&C’s show a glimmer of hope but Sony can legality change the T&C’s without notice with the added kick in the teeth……”Agree to the new T&C’s or you can’t use our network”
I am genuinely buying a new house soon and i need to kit it out with everything. Guess what brand i have decided to completely boycott? Apart from a few exclusive games, Sony don’t produce/make anything that you can’t get somewhere else…..and cheaper!

> Bla bla bla, what a bunch of retards in here, really…
Just for the record, this certainly includes yourself.
Firstly, it’s not the icon itself. It’s the statement it stands for and the way SCEE forced it onto us.
Secondly, what would you say if there were 15 icons? You’d still be cool? Scrolling around like mad? Well, good for you. You put up with everything but some people don’t. Let them be.

by calling other retards you just lose all credibility instead of proving your point, instead you could rather give a proper argument which is missing in your post why we should accept being treated as second class customers compared to US, if you like your singstar cool, but forcing it to all others is not cool.
there’s no way how i could accept that singstar icon on my console , before it was there everything was good , once it started to be on my console i started feeling anger and frustration , all i want is the option to not have singstar on my consoles thats all , US has the option so we deserve it as well, im not the target audience for singstar and i find it very insulting to have to look at something like that

Isn’t it strange. A post calling people [DELETED] is approved while a post criticising SCEE is rejected.

@tcviper – thousands of people care, that’s why we have all been posting about it. Just because people have differents tastes and opinions to you does not make them retards.
If the complaining annoys you then either:
1. Don’t read the threads
2. Blame SCEE, as it is due to their decison that we are all here complaining
Also, what we are asking for (an OPTION to delete) won’t affect you in any way, so I don’t know why you feel the need to come here and hurl insults.

if the best argument they can come up with is resorting to calling people retards then their opinion isnt worth alot

I don’t have a problem with it being on the XMB, I have a problem with my PS3 booting to it, all I want is for my PS3 to boot to the games folder like it used to, I just don’t want my system booting to a permanent static advertisement of a game I have know interest in.

getting close the 30 day mark and no progress.
Multiple quick ways they could fix this and they’ve done nothing yet the usa gets it done right.
Very silly Sony/Singstar.
