Community Update: Win a GT5 hoodie and Assassin’s Creed III!

Hello all and welcome to this week’s weekly update on what’s happening with the PlayStation Community on the Official PlayStation Forums!

Last month we ran an event called ‘Game of the Month’ where users voted for their favourite game in September. The runaway winner was Borderlands 2, pushing FIFA 13 and Tokyo Jungle into second and third places respectively!

This month we are going to do it all again, so head over to the forum thread and make sure your voice is heard. October saw the release of many top games including Assassin’s Creed III, Resident Evil 6 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown so the choice will certainly be a tough one!

This week we are going competition crazy on the PlayStation forums, and if you’re a fan of Gran Turismo you won’t want to miss out on the first one!

People like @RoronoaSouthe make me laugh. Why don’t you stop taking over other posts and vent your anger in the forums like a normal person? In fact just sell your PS3 and get an Xbox with paid online which has adverts forced down your throat!

So, any sign of the singstar icon being removed?

I’ve had the PS1, PS2 and PS3 and the singstar icon is the biggest problem I’ve ever had with anything Sony. Every time I eject a disc, there it is in all its stupid ugliness.

I love Sony but what a place to put it. Above your digital games and your default screen when you eject a game? Seriously?

Please sort this out.

On topic I’m a enter that AC3 competition and congrats on another great month for plus. But the singstar icon, please, just sort it out.

 

This is only for UK residence and not for all (as usual) as stated in the country sellection on top.

People like you make me face palm my face so hard. You clearly don’t understand why we’re doing this if your happy with the service they provide thats great, enjoy it. The rest of us arent and want to be treated the same as the americans and with a little bit of respect as a customer who buys there products. And i wish to do this on blogs not the forum.

No but the get there games on time, cheaper and blog stadd that answer somewhat more than here.

I dont have a problem with the singstar icon either, i just ignore it. but games coming late/not at all to the store, lack of communication and a store that doesnt work is a problem.
we’re paying customers, we shouldnt have to put up with this. I am more and more impressed with Steam and my plan is to move entirely to PC next gen. prices are much better and a much better range of games.

I think the blog staff get a hard time rather unfairly because they are on the front line, dealing with what’s happening behind the scenes, about which they cannot comment and dealing with irate commenter’s here who have this sense of entitlement that’s all over the internet these days. To take some of the issues already raised in the comments already…

– Blog staff ignoring important or useful questions.
I doubt they’re really ignoring them, there’s only so many things they can actually reply to without getting into trouble.
– Replying to the same questions, sometimes on the same page.
Frankly, because some people don’t take the time to read what’s already been answered.
– Inability to provide us with information (TWD, CS:GO)
Because they don’t have any and have already said so. Sadly different regions have different criteria for passing games, sad but true. And a well known issue.

– Promoting content, then on release saying its delayed.
Again, not their fault. Normally there’s a well defined timeline for releases, dictated by PR, advertising etc., if something gets delayed – like a bug – then it’s not the blog’s fault!
– Promoting deals that don’t work and don’t fix (Dead Island).
Again, not the blog’s fault. This is normally down to the developer/publisher to fix.
– Releasing Content, then announce a discount a week later (WWE13).
This could be handled better granted, but the blog staff can only deal with the information supplied to them.
– 95% of the PS2 games are garbage, release good games.
This is down to licensing issues. If you know anything about publishing, it’s a tortuous and twisted journey to get them on the PSN store. And think about it – the US is one country, there’s more than one country in the EU. It sucks, but we have to be patient. Or wait for Gaikai to be implemented.

– Charging ridiculous amounts for digital games.
Again, nothing much the blog staff can do about this. And there’s a good reason digital prices are higher – the RRP (recommended retail price) for big games is £49.99. The reason you see games for less in stores on the high street is because they buy in bulk, so they get that purchasing price discounted which they can then pass onto the customer. Once companies like Sony can rely less on the high street and more on high speed internet, the prices will come down. Plus, why would Sony want to under cut stores that sell their consoles and games for them?
– Charging more than the US Store, Content should be equally priced.
One word – taxes. We have VAT, they don’t, so comparing prices is not a like for like issue.
– Forced to have a Singstar icon on the XMB.
They know we don’t like it, going on about it won’t help.

I’d hate to be in the position the blog staff are in, it can’t be easy.

Yup, that’s probably the main thing they should alter on the forum. The competitions are UK only, even though there is really no good reason for it. This blog and its weekend debate show they can easily set up a EU wide competition, if they wanted to.
Other than that, the forum is really a joyful place to be, and to discuss what we all love – the PS3, Vita, its games, and its mandatory Singstar icons :-)
So, if anyone has never visited it, I highly recommend doing so.

Oh, and there are separate fora for each language! Change the language on the top of the page, and you’re on an entirely different part of the board! OttoT, there is even a Dutch section, with its own competitions!

    Although we would ideally like to run competitions across all languages, alas, sometimes it just isn’t possible.

    As you quite rightly point out, there is the option to visit the your own local version of the forums which often run their own awesome competitions and events.

feel free to go see my answers on other comment pages. My list is very reasonable. Its not our fault if people are to lazy to read they should be doing more to answer more questions and a better variety of questions. Plenty of people have suggested ways to help or things they could do but all were ignored. And as for digital games. Sony need to take control off there own market or stop releasing digital.

Also, RoronoaSouthe, your comments are more of an eyesore than the SingStar app could ever be, please leave. I hope one of the mods can ban you from here, I’m sure there’s something in the T&C’s about spamming, if not you should be banned simply for being irritating.

Whether or not you agree with this list of complaints, let me just say that presenting it like this would not be my way of dealing with it. In fact, I’m honestly sick and tired of the level of entitlement that some people think they have. Be upset and cancel your subscription if you must (entirely your choice, you know!), but you are not being scammed and you are not being treated with any purposely ill intent.

In fact, for your plus membership, you are getting an amazing amount of monthly content like nowhere else and a staff who are doing the best with the information they get. And yet you whine about how some of the games you get FOR FREE are trash? And even complain … No, DEMAND to be told about Counterstrike? Please!

all I did was post a comment and asked people to paste if they agreed. I have only posted it once per blog post and a total of 4 times. As you can see people have pasted it because they agree with me, look at all the comments people have put in favour of my message and not one has been replied to by staff.  I’m not trolling and I’m not using bad language these are serious complaints and should be answered. All I can say is sorry but until we get acknowledgement from the blog staff we will continue to post are complaints.

And I’m aware PS+ is a lot better this side of the pond.

Countries: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ
You can select or deselect countries so please do that so I can ignore the post.
Also other countries don’t spoil this EU blog with local stuff.

I do feel at times that “Community” only exists when things are working or SCEE want to sell us something.

Community disappears when there are questions asked, infact it this Community is often greeted with silence.

A very useful article for this dreary blog would be a weekly Q & A, fair enough if the answer is we don’t have an answer, as it’s better than silence.

I’d like to reply to your opinion about this “frustration with the store”,which I’d like to call “frustration with the way we are being treated”. “- blog staff answer what they are allowed”
It is not like we don’t understand that there are some things that staff can’t answer, but the lack of any kind of response,makes it much worse.Anything like “I can’t answer that” or just plain old “we are sorry, if you could just bare with it a little bit more” would be sufficient in my opinion, because when I see 3 people commenting: the 1st ask about something that many people are intrested in,for example something that should already be available, the 2nd asks about some reandom game,avatar etc, and the 3rd asks about the same thing that first person did, and the staff answers only to the 2nd’s question “with I’ll look into it”,and ignores others, that’s what makes people angry. I know that they can’t say something like “licensing process is difficult” but any proof that they actually acknowledge the problem,and try to inform us with as much as they can,that they try pressuring someone to let them tell us a little bit more would make up for everything. (just my opinion ;p)

Some are just jumping on the bandwagon for the sake of it & i’m sure if there was something that piqued their interest then they would purchase it.

With regards to PLUS members posting, I wonder if they will bypass the ‘free/rented’ digital content then?? I very much doubt it!

It’s pathetic really but I suppose the Blog Team & SCEE in general are to blame for their lack of communication etc. It’s not always ‘Black & White’ though & we don’t know what information is allowed to be released. Replying on this blog isn’t their ‘Primary’ role & they’re very busy. It’s a luxury that they reply & we should be thankful of that at least!

Yes they’ve annoyed me in the past but the majority of the time i’ve had a reply or read one similar, that was posted to someone else.

The main problem with a blog like this, or any site really, is the age of some of the people that post on them. Alot of people are too young to understand how a business works & what goes on in the background. Too many demands!

Ive replied to you on another blog post and to your comment here.
In my eyes the plus content has already been payed for via being a subscriber so i would see no harm in downloading the freebies. My main point was purchasing more from the store as you can’t ask for a refund on +. Like i said before i would have been very happy if a staff member had posted something in regards to us either telling us to stop, asking us to email in, take it to the forums, say sorry but there has been nothing. Communication is terrible on here, the pick and choose and hardly comment at all. Atleast if they said they can’t answer or legally can’t or to stay tuned etc. Atleast we know they have acknowledged are comment.
