PlayStation All-Stars: The Battle Royale begins this week!

Screen 2

Throughout its almost 20 year history, PlayStation has allowed us as players to explore new worlds, triumph over adversaries and realise our dreams of rapping superstardom. Three years ago, SuperBot Entertainment, BluePoint Games, and Sony Santa Monica Studio set out to create a game that pays tribute to the amazing memories we as PlayStation fans have all experienced together.

This week, we’re finally able to share that game with you. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has arrived!

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a celebration of the PlayStation history: its characters, its universes and, most importantly, its fans. And what better way to celebrate that with some good old-fashioned butt-kicking!

In PlayStation All-Stars, up to four players can simultaneously control any of the 20 great PlayStation characters featured on our roster, including Kratos from God of War, Nathan Drake from UNCHARTED, Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet, Big Daddy from BioShock, and Dante from DmC Devil May Cry, and fight it out brawler-style on one of our 14 levels, each one created by mashing up two PlayStation worlds – like the topsy-turvy world of LocoRoco mixed with the war-torn battlefields of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

While our Versus Mode, which pits player against player (against player, against player) will undoubtedly provide endless memorable experiences, venture into Arcade Mode to find out what brings all of these great characters together into one crazy world. And if you’re strong enough, discover what it’s like to face the oldest and most powerful PlayStation All-Star, Polygon Man.

Screen 1

Alternatively, head over into the Combat Trials Mode to learn the ins and outs of the Battle Royale combat system. Insight into the various fight mechanics and individual character instructions come together in the form of a fun yet educational mode. And when you’re ready, jump online to challenge the world in either our Tournament or Quick Match Modes, which offer what we feel is an online multiplayer experience virtually indistinguishable from offline play.

Available on both PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, PlayStation All-Stars takes full advantage of the interconnectivity between the two platforms via Cross Play, allowing players to battle it out against one another on either device. Owners of both a PS3 and PS Vita can even transfer their saves from one machine to the other, allowing PlayStation All-Stars to be played wherever the fans want to play it. And best of all, if you purchase the PlayStation 3 version of the game, you get the PS Vita version at no extra cost! There’s really no reason not to take advantage of such a great deal.

As a friendly reminder, in order to redeem your digital PS Vita copy from the PS3 on-disc benefit, you’ll need to ensure your PS3 system is updated to the latest firmware, version 4.31.

Today marks the start of a great adventure for us – one in which we as developers get to celebrate with you as the fans. We couldn’t have made this game without you, and I hope you all enjoy playing the game as much as we enjoyed making it. See you online!

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale launches today in the US, tomorrow in mainland Europe, Thursday in Australia & New Zealand, and on Friday for UK & Ireland.

Did you enjoy this?

Question, are all characters unlocked from the start or is some unlockable? Just asking.

xenokiller90 20 November, 2012 @ 4:15 pm   4

awesome day one purchase for me;)

Falcon1991 20 November, 2012 @ 4:17 pm   5

I had fun with the beta.

I was surprised to see that I actually enjoyed playing as Fat Princess. I also played a good deal as Parappa.

I’m definitely excited to get this, as when I watched IGN’s Live on this and saw all the extra icons/background/titles you can unlock, I can see there’ll be a lot of time I put into this!

Also thank you so much for putting in Kat as DLC! If either Crash or Sora gets in as DLC I’d be indescribably happy. If not then Cloud or Lightning would do. :)

OK NOW IM DONE

Quick question, how do we get the pre-order bonuses? There was supposed to be a post giving us information on where to pre-order and how to redeem.

    Phil Lynch 20 November, 2012 @ 4:39 pm

    Hi Tramain,

Unfortunately, with so many different territories and so many different retailers it was almost impossible to collate them all. I also didn’t want to show preference to some and not others

However, if you go to apps.facebook.com/all-stars or http://bit.ly/Zfn5yc and go to “buy now” you can see the participating retailers for your country.

omg

Hi, can you confirm the rumours. Is this 2 separate trophy lists or a shared trophy list with PS3 and Vita?

If only I didn’t need all my money for rent, Christmas presents and generally staying alive I would have this!! I’ll be roaming about online on this come the new year once Christmas is over, can’t wait!!!

Tramain1987 20 November, 2012 @ 4:47 pm   11

Thanks for the quick reply, the only retailer here in the UK seems to be GAME, unbelievable not other retailers were given the bonus content.

I am interested in Battle Royale but don’t have much time for it at the moment.
Am I right in assuming that the cross-buy deal is a permanent one and not just an iintroductory offer?

vonhammer 20 November, 2012 @ 4:56 pm   13

Anyone know of a list or video that goes into real depth with the online modes.

I wish the final boss(i think it’s the final boss) wasn’t revealed all over the internet :-/ Oh well. Apart from that i WILL buy this(when i finished the brilliant LBP: Karting game tho) ASAP :P + I love the PlayStation only characters the best! :D

vonhammer 20 November, 2012 @ 5:02 pm   15

@ Carl-G

What annoyed me most was the blog post had it’s image under the headline. It was impossible to avoid.

NinjaofLegend 20 November, 2012 @ 5:07 pm   16

I bought the Playstation 3 version of the game today, but I don’t know how to download my free version for the vita. My copy of the game didn’t come with a code to redeem for the vita version so how do I download it?!

    Phil Lynch 20 November, 2012 @ 5:25 pm

    Hi Ninja,

    I can’t speak for the US version, but here is the process that we’ve been sharing;

    1. Update your PS3 firmware to version 4.31
    2. Insert the game disc into your PlayStation®3 system.
    3. Select “Disc Benefit” below the [GAME] icon on the XMB™ Menu.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the Disc Benefits to your Sony Entertainment Network (PSN) account.
    4. Select “Proceed to PlayStation®Store” to receive your Cross-Buy content.*

*Cross-Buy can only be applied to one Sony Entertainment Network account.

    Hope this helps.

jony_dols 20 November, 2012 @ 5:17 pm   17

According to PS All-Stars wikia poll; Sir Daniel Fortesque is the clear fan favorite from nearly 2500 votes, receiving more than Drake, Sackboy & Kratos combined!!

Will PS All-Star finally spur on Sony to make a new entry in the series?

Btw can’t wait to pick All-Stars up for my Vita on the 23rd!

Voodoo341 20 November, 2012 @ 5:23 pm   18

Interesting concept not showing a preference to any particular region. Not really something Sony have tried before.

ryannumber3gamer 20 November, 2012 @ 5:29 pm   19

Will the pre-order costume pack come as DLC later?

When will the pre ordered version on the PS Store be playable? Im guessing tomorrow whenever the store updates, or will it be ready to be played past midnight tonight?

vonhammer 20 November, 2012 @ 5:45 pm   21

@Phil

seeing as your posting, has there been any real info regarding online modes and options. Was forced to read reviews for the first time in 3-4 years, and cant find any meaningful info from them.

I don’t want to cancel the order, but I’m almost at a point were I cant commit to buying this.

Gamesgbkiller 20 November, 2012 @ 6:27 pm   22

can i play cross play with vita and ps3 offline with same ID?
or just online ?

supersmith2500 20 November, 2012 @ 6:33 pm   23

@CoolRicky008UK:
I was asking that question to the staff. Not you.

supersmith2500 20 November, 2012 @ 6:43 pm   24

Seriously this CoolRicky guy is really starting to annoy me now, two of my comments held for approval because of him, still harassing me even I blocked him on PSN on the blog, this and the approval thing is really getting on my nerves.

@ supersmith2500

i have witnessed you being a target for him so fell sorry for you there m8.

just out of curiosity how do you know he has reported you for approval?

anyhoo back on topic ps3trophys.org are saying this is 2 separate trophy lists unlike when vikings attack which is a combined list can anyone at all confirm if this is true or false?

supersmith2500 20 November, 2012 @ 6:58 pm   26

@hayzink:
He didn’t report me, I both reported him and blocked him because he just jumps in, rage caps at me and replies to my questions that he shouldn’t, it was for the person who made to blog to answer not him. Also I told him to leave me alone but both of my comments are held for apporval to see if it contains any harassment and if it is, it gets rejected and won’t post. Btw, CoolRichy says that CoolRicky is an imposter and does not own that account and is owned by someone who is banned before. This is what annoyed me.

supersmith2500 20 November, 2012 @ 7:56 pm   27

Btw, can’t wait to play this game on Friday, heard it’s got some good reviews.

Tenchuwoh 20 November, 2012 @ 8:02 pm   28

In Greece it arrives at 23/11,i can’t wait ^__^
Please i want Rikimaru from Tenchu as a Dlc :C

“When will the pre ordered version on the PS Store be playable? Im guessing tomorrow whenever the store updates, or will it be ready to be played past midnight tonight?”

Would like to know this as well, so I know if I should wait to play it tonight until I fall asleep or just go to bed and powerplay it tomorrow after work :p.

Voodoo341 20 November, 2012 @ 9:32 pm   30

it’s getting some brutal reviews. 6/10 in OPM…. boom!

tim0manskywalker 20 November, 2012 @ 10:20 pm   31

Can we still pre-order? I am late to the party!

Cyberendpunk 21 November, 2012 @ 12:14 am   32

6.5 on Gamespot. I knew it was a terrible game after the beta. And the menus look hideous. Avoid at any cost, as PlayStation gamers we deserve better fracking tribute to the system and its characters.

RoninDennis 21 November, 2012 @ 8:40 am   33

@32
Well, basically there are 17 reviews now, 3 of those around 6. Gamespot’s review was really dumb (“This game might have a steep learning curve for you, so 6,5″). The rest is 7 and above, with an average of 77%. That’s not bad at all. Sure, it’s not the greatest thing ever, but from what I’ve read, it’s a decent, enjoyable game with some room for improvement. Hardly “terrible”…

Stonesthrow 21 November, 2012 @ 8:56 am   34

I am really loving this game, way better than I expected. Although I’ve only been playing with the more serious characters, the cartoony ones don’t seem so appealing to me personally, atleast not in this kind of game. I love the authenticity once again. Every character looks, moves and sounds like it should and the controlls are quick and responsive. I also like the diversity in the characters and their playstyle. Some are better in one-on-one and others against large groups, some have better lvl1 Supers than others etc.. This really is the most fun I’ve had with a fighter/brawler since Smash Bros’. Like LBP Karting compared to Mariokart, it also has just enough of that part that reminds us of the series it’s inspired by, but with enough of its own elements and flavor to be unique in that sense. Hoping to see plenty of character packs with fighters and their own style!

Stonesthrow 21 November, 2012 @ 8:59 am   35

Oh by the way, I can’t seem to redeem my Vita version at this point, I always get an error when I select the “Disc Benefit” icon.. Is this normal?

iscah_rambles 21 November, 2012 @ 12:15 pm   36

I’m in Australia, so still waiting to join in the fun at this point. Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon!

Anyway, with the Vita cross-buy… at this point, I don’t have a Vita, but will probably get one sometime in the future – maybe not for a year or two. (I still have plenty of unplayed games for consoles I already own!) Is there a limit to when I have to activate/download the Vita version, or can it wait until I buy the console?

Already platinumed the game, its a pretty decent game a little disappointed in the game play and how to earn kills etc but none the less i’m satisfied and I recommend everyone give it a go as it is a very fun game with friends and is very easy to jump on and play.

majesticbeastt 21 November, 2012 @ 2:02 pm   38

I am really [DELETED] all of a sudden its only select retailers in my country who get the dlc costumes what happend to everyone gets the costumes whent hey preorder this is lying to the people who bought your game.

Aside from making sure you’ve got your very own copy on day-one, pre-order PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and you’ll be able to get access to an exclusive set of costumes for all of the characters in the game!

I want answers now!
