I don’t know about you, but the Christmas party season is well and truly in full swing in my corner of the world. Shamefully, I’ve already lost count of the number of mince pies I’ve stowed away. I’m hoping to get some pictures and eye-witness reports from the various holiday bashes taking place in Sony-affiliated studios around the globe over the next week or two, to share with you all over the Christmas down-time. Brace yourselves!
Duly, your debate topic this week is, I hope, nice and timely:
You’re throwing a gaming night with friends – or ‘party’ if you prefer. What three games do you line up, and why?
I want to hear about snack choices and fancy dress themes too, if you please!
Suitably, I’ve got 8 download codes for the thoroughly excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for PS Vita for the most entertaining responses. See Eurogamer’s considered review for more insight into why it’s a true multiplayer treat and a must for the Sega faithful.

A ultimate video game party has to have 3 generations of consoles,
So firstly on the PSone we have Crash team racing, it is the greatest racing game on the playstation (though not as good as Rock ‘n’ Roll racers, love that game).
Next we move on to the PS2 and play a 500 kills game against the bots on killzone. That will cover a few hours and hopefully build up our teamwork…
Only for it to be destroyed when we move on the the PS3 and play a few rounds on Buzz, at this time people

Continuing on from that brief pause…
At this time people will hopefully be tired and drunk and it might be enough to push people over the edge.
And that’s how you throw a party. (when you also add drink and food).

Having just finished a gaming night we played Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, our new favourite game. My friends love beating up other players, nothing beats a purely competative game.
Secondly we play Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars, an old PSN game. Instant favourite of any who play it. Probably the oldest game we play.
Finally we play whatever we can gather, either All 4 One, Little Big Planet 2 or some other multiplayer Game I have. Thats if we get bored of the other two, but that seldom happens.
No dress theme, but I always have some Mountain Dew or Fanta in stock with some chips. Makes for a good night.

For me, definitely:
NHL 13 – We may not know or understand how ice hockey is played, but any sport this fast with as many opportunities to for violence is alright with me, the sheer confusion over how the game is meant to work just adds to the enjoyment.
Rock Band 3 – It was always meant to be a party game, so to not have it ready for the party would be a crime. Who doesn’t want to sing along to such classics like Carry on my Wayward Son and More Than a Feeling?
WarioWare Smooth Moves – It may not be a PS3 game, but I have never had so much fun watching somebody else play a game. Well worth it for the novelty of seeing your friends flail around, especially when the games are running on maximum speed.
For a party like this there is only one way to dress, as the Blue Man Group.

For the consideration of the neighbours I start off early with a noisy game, so Guitar Hero is the first bet, then I normally move onto a shooter, which ranges between call of duty, Resistance FOM or Goldeneye, and then to finish off when it gets dark and most people have left the remaining people at my parties normally turn out the lights and we’ll sit and take turns between deaths in a horror game, normally the game of choice is Resident Evil 4

My line up !
Pain – because taking it in turns to inflict pain on a certain fat princess for points is hilariously similar to that time I threw a golf ball at a prostitute.
Rock Band 3 – because the only thing that’s better than karaoke, is spending £70 on a pretend guitar, so a friend can join in.
Buzz! Quiz World – because I need to know how smart my friends are, in case I get arrested for throwing golf balls suspiciously close to ‘street dwellers’ and I need a lawyer.
The dress code would be “Ninja turtle character of choice” and we’d eat pizza out of the microwave, to commemorate the old days, when food was improperly prepared.

Gaming night? Don’t mind if I do.
First up, a racer. Nice, easy to get into opener. Coincidentally, usually this is the first Sonic & SEGA Racing as it has four-player split-screen and it’s easy to control with the left hand steering and the accelerator jammed against my right thigh on account of the pizza slice wot is in my right hand.
After the bitter hobo fight over the last pepperoni slice, some warm, camaraderie-building co-op is called for. Borderlands 2: nothing helps warm feelings toward one’s fellow man like taking on Handsome Jack with a mate. Don’t be a Gunzerker. I’m a Gunzerker. No, didn’t you hear, I’M the Gunzerker!
Last, tempers are strained and a gentlemanly throwdown – or, more likely, a button-mashing disaster area – is decided upon. Someone wants Street Fighter IV AE, I want Virtua Fighter 5 (I’m the only one who knows any combos). We compromise with Dead or Alive 5: hah, fooled you! Sarah, I choose you!
That’s my three. Shake hands, break bag of Skittles together. Same time next month?

This is without a doubt 3 of my favourites (in no particular order):
1. Timesplitters 2 custom matches. The MOST fun you can have in this game is 4 player deathmatch where everyone chooses the monkey and with NO weapons! Just think about it, 4 monkeys running around trying to bash eachother to death, it’s hilarious to play AND watch! Sometimes we’ll have one human character vs 3 monkeys armed with bricks! 3 monkeys chasing and tossing bricks at the lone human is hilariously good fun! It’s even MORE chaotic when you add in another 10-20 bots as monkeys! Just watching 20 monkeys running around tossing bricks at eachother is incredibly entertaining LOL! It sounds simple but it’s the MOST fun I’ve ever had gaming with friends.
2. Eyetoy Play 3. This game has simultaneous 4-player games so watching my friends running, jumping and accidentally slapping eachother (trying to hit enemies on screen) can bring many fits of laughter! seriously, there are tears at times it’s so funny! this game never fails to entertain both the people player and those who watch, great fun and good times for all!
continued below..

3. Tie between MicroMachines and Mashed. Both these games are INTENSE and hilariously entertaining at the same time, the racing alone is unbelievably good fun, don’t compare it to Mario, Crash team or any other karting game because this is MUCH better! When a player dies in Mashed they can still shoot the remaining players until the next round begins, so it’s always fun no matter what happens. Add in all the unique weapons and there’s NEVER a dull moment in these games.
As for food/drink, EyeToy Play HUGELY benefits from a few shots of hard liquor.. hilarity ensues! good, good times

Black Ops 2 – now has four player split screen in zombie mode, this is probably the only game we would need but….
Burnout Paradise – party mode in that is quite good and you can have up to 8 players.
Tokyo Jungle – one of the most unique local multiplayer games I’ve played. Only two player but a pair can play while the others keep drinking
Best snack food? Coffee is always good cause I’m an old man and can’t stay awake – lollies also as most foods are too messy to eat while you are playing

First you need is beer for this, ok? =) Now, all set? well lets have a beer game competition! Here is my top 3 on how to have an awesome video game night!
1: Nhl 13. Mostly say fifa 13, but I would rather go with NHL. Mostly because of the easier learning curve and more fast paced. Well, everybody team up and kick the outer team out, simple as that. The team that scores, sips 1, the one that scores sips 3, and the losing team sips 5!
2: Random fighting game, like sreet fighter or soul calibur. Write down everyone names on a piece of paper. everybody needs to fight each other 2-3 times (depending on how many you are etc). Fight for best of 3. Winning gets you 2 points, winning flawless gives you 3 points. The losing guy sips 5. The players that dont play can bet sips and points while watching! When the qualifiers are over, make a semi final and at last a grand final with double the odds when betting!
3: worms armaggedon. Let everybody make a team and start the massacre! You kill a worm? Sip 3, you are the one that lost one? Sip 5! Take turns to make up certain conditions for each turn, like grenades only. Only hurt player 3, you must sing during your gameturn etc etc. If the player somehow fails with this, sip 5 of em!

First of all, get in the right frame of mind by excercising, by having a good walk spoilt in Everybody’s Golf: World Tour. Next, strap in to Gran Turismo 5. Using the same cars on the same circuits; best time wins. Then everyone together in a big rock finale with a full* band Rock Band rock out.

My favourite thing to do when im having a game party is to go full out with decorations, ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, drake posters up in the gaming lounge. While we have races to see who can beat uncharted the fastest or who can collect all the orbs in jak and daxter, or we face off in ratchet and clanks multiplayer battles. I of course am always victorious as i am the best at gaming

I wouldn’t call it a party but a good Get-together.
Playstation Battle Royale:
- Cause at the beginning people are still focused, but we still dont want it to technical.
Singstar & Sports Champions 2
- will rotate for the rest of the evening so the girls will stop complaining cause they got whipped on Battle Royale. Plus the drinks would be kicking in for some very funny moments. And with Singstar loads of people can get in on the action just by sharing a mircophone^^
Snacks: Chip, Chocolate, Brownies maybe oder a pizza later to go along with a great evening/night.

1. Uncharted 3 – Is always fun and addictive. Kicking an enemy off a ledge, A well placed grenade into a group of enemies.. I want to play it now..
2. PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale – Flawless Cross Play on PS3 & Vita combined with a simple control scheme makes this a family favourite.
3. Start the Party (& it’s sequel) – Everyone can play it, looks great, plays better. Massively underrated party games which are always fun.

1. A PS3 and TV and copy of Black ops 2 for every 2 people to jump online in the party games lobby.
2. A PS3, 4 fight sticks and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to duel it out in a round robin style tournament.
3. Mod Nation Racers is great for any number of people 4 and under.

For apetizer offcourse the wonderfull Rayman Origins, by far the best 4 player multiplayer of this generation and a truly wonderfull game that get’s everyones spirits high.
But as Rayamn Origins allows for some serious bullying too (kicking each other in the greavy lava, refusing to pop ones bubble, or just stomping on someones head) I can imagina that after a while the party will become more and more tense. So then it’s time to take it out on each other in TimeSplitters 2, arguably the best multiplayer game in like ever, because… monkeys.
So that gets the spirits up again thanks to the hilarious humor and game modes. I can imagine the party goes on with that game till dawn, so maybe it’s time to kick those friends out of the house, which offcourse, they’ll don’t want to.
So I fire up Singstar and start singing a totally destruction of the favourite songs of my friends. Not that hard as I really, really, really can’t sing. That must wrap up the party for good, and if it doesnt, well, there is always room for one more ‘Monkey Assist’ or ‘Capture the Bag’ match

- LittleBigPlanet 2
It will really lift the mood among us, as we watch our Sackthings jump over obstacles while sticking their tongues out and swinging their arms everywhere. And then when one person wins, we give him a real smack (or should I say “sack”) in the face. So satisfying.
- Burnout Paradise
Now that we’ve set the mood, we need to build on it. We need teamwork for this. And what better way to do that, than to beat some of the online challenges in Burnout Paradise? And then sometimes, to break the pace, maybe just cruise around the city. (and by “cruise” I mean really fast!)
- Uncharted 3
Now that we’ve built a good solid foundation for teamwork, it’s time to tear it all down again! While I prefer the maps of Uncharted 2′s multiplayer, we would have to play Uncharted 3, because nothing brings up the competitive spirit quite like a free-for-all deathmatch to finish the night off.

This really would depend on which friends were popping round for the evening. A few beers, snacks and the following mix of games to try and allow for all tastes:
PSAS: so many different characters that are amazingly designed that no matter who you choose, you feel you’re playing their individual series of games
Modnation Racers (I don’t own LBP Karting – yet): Great fun racer with the ability to personalise kart and driver. The intense action keeping everyone fighting for the win
Dyad: for it’s time trial race style. Nothing better for a group of rowdy lads than trying to beat each others times using a ‘take it in turns’ style. The trippy art style should keep us entertained towards the end of the evening too

Singstar – Even if you don’t sing it’s still fun to watch people make a fool of themselves with dodgy renditions of 80′s classics
Pacman Champion Edition – Just so damn addictive
Super Monkey Ball 2 on Gamecube, just the one mini game Monkey Target, I have no idea how many hours have been lost in that one
Snack choices generally involve pizza and beer.

If you’re a gentlemen of a certain age your peer group will have long since lost the sort of motor control needed to play modern videogames.
Forget Borderlands 2. Every true multiplayer evening needs to start with Hired Guns on an Amiga with four people trying to play on the same keyboard. Inevitably a series of “friendly fire incidents” mean that the game will be turned off within 30 minutes and everyone will sit in sullen silence, their brains still turning corners in 90 degree steps.
After that we settle down with the spiritual forefather to Motorstorm RC, and play Micro Machines 2 Turbo Tournament. With the cables from 8 pads tangling and one person being miles better than everyone else it’ll be switched off in disgust.
And to finish? Well, time to get down the 486s from the loft and network up some PCs to play Doom. The only Killzone here is the pain in the lower back as we try to fit 8 family-car sized monitors onto a single kitchen table. After the table leg collapses for the 5th time we give up.
Overall feeling? A blend of nostalgia and creeping realisation that gaming has moved on, and perhaps it’s time to grab a copy of LBP2 and start co-operatively making a level that looks like a giant willy.

First game: Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed
Why?: Kart racing games are always a fun way to start the night, and this one has the added benefit of being a massive nostalgia fest for us all, too. Plus who hasn’t wanted an excuse to clobber Amy with a snowball?
Second game: Blazblue
Why?: Because a vibrant, colourful and fun fighter is the perfect way to get revenge on whoever pipped you at the post in the races.
Third game: Resident Evil: Chronicles HD
Why?: Feelings might be running high at this point, but nothing bands people together like a zombie apocalypse. Until someone forgets to heal someone that is… Also a great game for backseat players to yell ‘advice’ for at the end of the night.
For snacks we’d have to have something equally as colourful as the first two games, so bowls of Smarties are a must. Something with ketchup might be a suitable pair for Resident Evil…
As for outfits, it would probably be too hard to see themed t-shirts under the amount of warm clothes that we’d need to pile on top of them at this time of year, so whatever’s cosiest, really!

Game #1 – Street Fighter x Tekken. Me and my friends had lots of fun playing this together in teams, and I would more than love to do this again. Multiplayer madness surely is fun!
Game #2 – Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. We have plenty of fun playing this, no matter how good or bad we are. Making tournaments with this game has always been an idea of mine I’ve wanted to execute.
Game #3 – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. I don’t actually own this game (yet), but me and 2 friends of mine went to this gaming expo, where we got to play it together. We had A LOT of fun with the game, and it suddenly became a must-buy for us. Playing this with a bunch of friends will be amazing.
As for snack and dressing, there’s not much to say about that. We just go for whatever we find.

Singstar everyone can play it and there is nothing like making fools of yourselves and pretending to sing.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for a long time is was the original but now that 2 is out there is no need to go back to the first one, other than to play bowling. I love the great feeling of being so low on health in a fighting game than making a come back.
Finally Sports Champions is a great go to game that again everyone can play regardless of gaming ablitity so that is why I keep going back to it.

In this day and age of popular electronic jiggery-pokery, the allure of a gaming-themed party seems impossible to resist for my four closest friends. They’re ex-rockers from the 80′s bordering on geriatric, you see, so they’re no strangers to casting off their inhibitions with reckless abandon. That’s partly why they’ll turn up in full glam rock attire, complete with liberally applied hairspray, leather jackets and lip gloss. Oh, and let’s not forget the Hooch now that it’s making a comeback. We don’t want our effeminate party boys keeping their wits about them, now, do we?
And it follows naturally that their first port of call is the musical mash-up extravaganza known as Rock Band 3. Luckily, we’ve got a Nikki Sixx lookalike handling bass duty, Slash’s doppelganger taking care of the shredding guitar riffs, a suitably doped up Tommy Lee double beating the drums like a man possessed and our petulant Axl Rose wannabe stealing the spotlight and all the Jack Daniels. Of course, I’m stuck with the keyboard because I’m constantly being shunned by the rest of the gang. Sods.

With my fellow party gamer sadsacks now straddling the precarious point of balance between tipsy and legally dead, it’s time for a little culture. We’re moving on to Buzz: Quiz World, a multiplayer trivia hootenanny with which to express our latent intellectual prowess in a convivial setting. After being soundly outwitted by our would-be Nikki Sixx whilst Jason Donovan’s unconvincing attempts at a British voiceover performance start to wear thin, we’ll console ourselves by attaching the Playstation Eye and taking pictures of our potentially incriminating post-round poses.
Sadly, that’s when things start to teeter on the verge of insanity. In typical glam rock fashion, order will inevitably descend into a hazy blur of naked belly-dancing on the sofa and concentrated urine in the plant pots, and that necessitates drastic measures. That’s why I’ll pull out Dark Souls, the most punishing form of audiovisual torture conceived this side of The Phantom Menace.

. My friends have, quite frankly, outstayed their tenuously granted welcomes, so it’s time to usher them out the door in a fit of brutal AI-induced fury at the hands of From Software’s anarchic morale-crusher. Five minutes later and they’re out the door in a huff of epic proportions, leaving me to clear up the festering tat they left behind.
Still, I’ve got one last Ace up my sleeve, and it’s courtesy of those photos we took during our all-too-brief foray into the Buzz! shenanigans. One fleeting flick-through of our snaps uncovers a plethora of damning evidence against Axl and his gratuitous exposure of his reproductive organs, leaving me privy to a veritable gold-mine of blackmail opportunities. Take that, Axl! That’ll teach you to dither over the release of Chinese Democracy!

for my gaming night
First of all we will play playstation all stars battle royale for multiplayer madness! Then i will go with move and play sports champions 2 with my friends. Well first we need to prepare good snacks, and when you want good snacks you know you want cheetos, you want Doritos, pizza and for the ones with weirder tastes they can bring from home!
Of course we all dress in the same way, t-shirt and a training suit shorts because my house is really hot!
Then it is time to play games!
The first in the line will be: LITLE BIG PLANET 2 a game where you can platform, challenge you friends, and its incredible the face they make when I annihilate them in the challenge games.
But in the second game the drink starts to do its job and its time to play TRYAD a game that is meant to be played while drunk!
And at the end of the night while everyone is sleeping it is time to play JOURNEY, and to listen to its beautiful soundtrack

Late night Journey? Must give you some weird dreams. Sonic code here!

1. Fifa (13)
Because all of my friends are really competitive and can’t stand losing. This way every time we play there are intense matches.
2. Mortal Kombat
After playing fifa and having lost it’s always fun to beat some of your friends up. (virtually ofcourse) Excellent way to take revenge.
3. Mario kart 64 (n64)
Years after it’s release still an awesome game. This is to date my best co-op/gaming night game.

Have to go quite old school for party gaming kicks. Me and a few friends meet up every week, as we have done for years and play a whole bunch of games. These are the three stand out ones:
1) Anna Kournikova’s smash court tennis (PsOne) Specifically the bomb blast mode – it was really good fun and the deaths were sometimes so random that it never failed to entertain.
2) Circuit Breakers (PsOne) While it was succeeded by Mashed and Wrecked, Circuit Breakers was never topped. Great tracks, well balanced power ups, excellent handling – a good time guaranteed.
3) Halo (Xbox) I know it’s a little off-kilter mentioning a game like this here, but it really has been our split-screen fps game of choice for years. It used to be Timesplitters, but Halo came out and stole it’s place for local multiplayer fun.

-Borderlands 2 (Best 4-p shooter available)
-PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (Fighting with all my favorite characters)
-Uncharted 3 (Naughty Dog did an AMAZING job with this game)
These are by far the best split screen games ever made (I think Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal is 4th place)

sonic all star racing transformed! I used to not like any sonic game. but this game is awesome and the multiplayer options are bad ass.
Just had a gaming night with my mates yesterday, Xbox fans, but sonic and borderlands had them playing till 4 am ><

I would start to kick the crap out of my friends in some Mortal Kombat 9, then some split-screen shooter action in Borderlands 2 and end with some over the top racing in Motorstorm Apocalypse.

One room, four corners, 3 TVs, and one table full of quesadillas, nachos and beer…
In the middle, 4 sofas shaped in a diamond, with extra movable bean bags for added heads on a screen.
On the Xbox – Halo 4 – many a great game nights have taken place in the Halo universe, many great custom games and general online multi-fun.
On the Wii – Super Smash Bros Melee – still king king of whack-a-mole brawlers, so much fun, even for the lesser able fighters such as myself. At least I know I can pummel a few times with DK or Snake.
Aaand on the PS3 – FIFA – 7 players on one TV… a big TV… a very big TV… *Kool-Aid Man bursting through wall* “Oh, yeah!”
Attire – keep it simple, your favourite gaming t-shirt. Has to be unique though! No Repeats!
…loads of fun!

usually the latest COD with my mates because it’s so much fun online. Then definitely a FIFA mini tournament (DCFC!) followed by a cool local multiplayer PSN game such as Wipeout HD or Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars!!

For snacks usually Doritos with dips.

1) SingStar
A true Party Favourite! Always results in fun (Bad impersonations of famous people!)
2) Guitar Hero World Tour
+ A load of the awesome DLC of course! Brings out the guitarist/drummer/singer in everyone there!
3) LBP Karting
This game is, for me, the ideal multi-player party game! Fun and extremely competitive, but can result in a war to be the best :p

Goldeneye, Goldeneye and err, Goldeneye.
That game was really good, placing mines everywhere, messing about, you don’t need any other games.

Ah, this is easy.
1. Sports Champions – best game ever when having a few drinks with friends over. Seriously. Just make sure you put away all your expensive China and take down the chandeliers.
2. FIFA 13 – if it’s lads only, no better way of showing how much better you are than all of them by coming bottom of the league you’ve created. Yes, that’s right, bottom. It’s the new top …. in my world.
3. LBP Karting – After all that sporting action you need to relax with some nice sedate racing action. I mean, what can go wrong? Yes, rubbing is racing so a little contact is permitted, but rockets and landmines and all sorts of other painful and nasty ways to get taken out of the race is just plain wrong ….. or is it
This is the game that puts the league table the right way round again and top is the new top, as I’m great at it.
Those are just 3 of the games that I’ve played during an evening in with mates recently, and perhaps the most fun of them all but there are plenty of variations to me had. Playstation titles are so diverse they can cater for everything.

1. Mortal Kombat 9. One of the best fighting games of this generation with cool X-Ray moves and, of course, fatalities! We just beat-em-up each other! I hope that the new Justice League game, that comes from the same developers, is as cool.
2. Pro Evolution 2013. I know Fifa sells better but in my country (Greece) Pro is more famous. In Pro we play against each other but also we can play cooperatively and use our favorite Greek teams to win the Champions’ League or the Europa League, something that our teams clearly can’t do in real life!
3. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend. I don’t know if a lot of people have tried this game (the game has various versions that are available for PS3,PSP and PSVita). This game is the perfect example of how a fighting game must play. It has balanced characters, two control schemes (one for more casual players and one for better players) and cool anime style graphics. The multiplayer is very fun too if you have somewhat mastered the character you use.

Usually we don’t have snacks or dress themes. As for drinks coffee or traditional Greek wine.

Nothing worse than having to take part in games that aren’t playable by everybody from the off.
Proper party games have to be just ‘pick up and play’.
Singstar… ok. not everybody is michael buble – but it’s still fun, and I seem to get better at it the more beer I drink.
Buzz…. Any of the buzz games. Great fun for the family. Even gran gets to have a go! (and normally wins.)
Last ones a bit of a wish really… Point blank HD collection? – Come on. do I really have to break out the old psone, 2 G-cons and my old big ass tv? It is really time we got to put those 2 move controllers to some real use! (and take the on screen sights off!)
Many A night was spent by me and several mates sitting up to the early hours on this gem.
Did a point blank night once combined with a die hard night…White vests and shooting at the tv after watching die hard 1,2 and 3. Defo lads behaving badly night!
