I don’t know about you, but the Christmas party season is well and truly in full swing in my corner of the world. Shamefully, I’ve already lost count of the number of mince pies I’ve stowed away. I’m hoping to get some pictures and eye-witness reports from the various holiday bashes taking place in Sony-affiliated studios around the globe over the next week or two, to share with you all over the Christmas down-time. Brace yourselves!
Duly, your debate topic this week is, I hope, nice and timely:
You’re throwing a gaming night with friends – or ‘party’ if you prefer. What three games do you line up, and why?
I want to hear about snack choices and fancy dress themes too, if you please!
Suitably, I’ve got 8 download codes for the thoroughly excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for PS Vita for the most entertaining responses. See Eurogamer’s considered review for more insight into why it’s a true multiplayer treat and a must for the Sega faithful.

1) DeadSpace: Extraction, lure them into thinking its a nice fun move game, see who jumps first :X, would work better if not everyone is in the room at the same time, trick them into playing it one at a time. Might actually try this if we have visitors >=D
2) Buzz, Ive actually been meaning to upgrade to the PS3 version for some time now, but yeah 4 player buzzers (and I think up to 7 with my controllers if I do get the PS3 version) epic fun guessing on the last round and clutching it over people that know the actual answer but take too long to press the button =D.
3) Crash Team Racing, fairly simple to pick up and play, some memorable tracks and racers and a silly funtime to be had, sure the graphics look somewhat dated (hey, go HD that ;_; ) but its really easy to pick up and play and my sister is such a tryhard, its amusing using shortcuts and being yelled at and called a cheater :X.
Bonus props goes to Rayman Origins I dont actually own it yet but do intend to pick it up soon,3 player romping that looks simplistic enough for my mother to understand, but silly enough for me to enjoy (slap fight+cliff=family trolling O=<) really should pick that up incase we have visitors, looks easy enough to pick up and play.

Also snacks? wasnt in the box x_X. hmm, there will be Pringles. This is pretty much staple when someone comes round. And then I know my mother will put random biscuits on a heart shaped ceramic plate she has had for as long as anyone can remember o_O.
oh and cocktail sausages every year.
Depends how many people come but I might also make my “Ill leave it on maximum heat for a while and see what happens, no I didnt measure any of the vegetables” soup. Not really a “snack” so idk throw in some French Bread?
Fancy Dress? “people I dont talk to for a year that show up unexpectedly”? :X

First I’d start off with a bit of old school fun with a massive multiplayer tournament on Micro Machines. A racer everyone can get to grips with and besides anyone who doesn’t have a laugh smashing a rival down the pocket of a pool table or into a bath hasn’t got a sense of humour.
Then after that fierce competitino you need some Guitar Hero 5 to bring people together, get some tunes going, everyone on their feet and rocking to some Bon Jovi, Gorillaz and Queen.
And at the end of the night I’d stick on Duke Nukem Forever. How else is everyone meant to know the party’s over and it’s time to leave?
And anyone who stays and plays this with you must be a true friend.
Food wise it’s got to be a classic buffet table. No party is complete without crisps, sausage rolls, cold pizza, cheese and pineaple on sticks and cocktail sausages on sticks etc. Plus food served on sticks means your hands and controllers don’t get greasy.
If I had to have a fancy dress theme, 80′s cartoons. Cartoons were much cooler then with Transformers, Turtles, Thundercats, Mario and Sonic etc.

Ah, poor Duke
Kudos on the Micro Machines tip though! Good times.

First game would have to be Resistance 3 with survival mode on split-screen. There’s quite simply nothing better than the tension of a horde of grims coming at you and a friend soundtracked by Mastodon.
Second game would be Bomberman. A true classic game where even if you’re terrible at it you can have a great time. These games have just always been great for jump in and play couch gaming sessions.
Finally, I’d have to go with an old-school favourite in Pokemon Stadium. Sure, it was literally nothing but turn-based battles, but as kids there was nothing like seeing them all in 3D on the screen and for nostalgic face offs it’s one of the best times you can have on a console.

1: Any Rock Band Game-The sound may keep the neighbors up but we ourselves will be having a great time.
2: Marvel vs Cap-com 3-Rotating between characters and having the ultimate showdown between two Captain Americas or as we say Captain Russia and Captain America.
3: Call of Duty Modern Warfare-We may get enraged with one another but at the end of it the thrill is in scoring a headshot upon the weakest of the group. At some point we will get bored and think why did we stoop to such a level as to play this game.

Thats an easy one:
(record one roud time – 10 min 34 sec
)
- Apetizer: Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal (it was Dragon Ball before All-Stars show up) to stir an apetite for main course
- Main Course: Tekken 3!!! Yes 3 – still the best fighting game ever and it is hard to beat my frined because we all play since the game came out in 98 on good old PS One
-Desert: any side scroller beat-them-up with Castel Crushers being favourite becasue everyone likes to fight over a priness kiss at the end of the night
P.S. Pardno my English but it is not my primary language

game 1 – borderlands2 nothing beats shooting and grabbing loot especially beating your mates to it
game 2 racing around in NFS:Most wanted take out your mates in style
game 3 Mortal Kombat what better way to finish off than performing a finishing move on your mates

I’ll pick the 3 games that I have enjoyed playing with friends the most. Firstly we’d have to play PES6, some my greatest gaming moments have come from this little beauty and is so competitive it’ll certainly get every ones blood pumping.
Then it would have to be summat like Mortal Kombat or Tekken Tag, keep everyone nice and competitive whilst keeping the violence to virtual only
After everyone has drunk themselves stupid I’d stick on DanceStar and watch in glee as everyone stumbles around trying to recreate OK GO’s treadmill video. Every video would be uploaded for future blackmail…I mean reference

#1 Mortal Kombat 9 – it’s TEH FUN. X-ray is just awesome and satisfying to laugh at your mate when you start one.
#2 Split/Second – A really good racing game, and almost nobody knows about it. If I’m last and my pal is 1st, I just drop a plane on him. Simple as that. It’s a damn good feeling to cheat!
#3 Fifa – Costume made leagues are always fun to play and watch… But usually those matches are the most hilarious, which are at the end. If you drink a lot of beer, you’re hand-eye coordination won’t be the same.

It very much depends on who will be attending.
The first game has to be a fighter. If the attendants are all hardcore players, I would choose Virtua Fighter 5, because it’s my personal favourite. Otherwise, Soul Calibur V should do, or even Tekken Tar Tournament 2. It would also be a good idea to try PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
Next up is the racer. Sonic & All-stars looks great, I always prefered karts to regular cars when it comes to parties.
The last slot is for a typical party game, rythmic, sports or puzzle stuff… As many of my firends know how to play a guitar I am tempted to choose Rocksmith. Otherwise, it’ll be Rockband 3, Sports Champions or Buzz.

Micro Machines V3, Crash Bash and Timesplitters 2 because they’re all easily accessible, colourful and keep the mood light. Even if someone hasn’t played a title, he’ll start on fairly even ground which allows for closer calls and bigger laughs.

game 1 would be start the party. this game will get everyone pumped & ready for the games to come later on in the night.
game 2 would be buzz junior jungle party. even though it’s on ps2 & made for kids it’s great fun as it gets people of all ages going bananas! (you play as monkeys)
game 3 would be little big planet 2 as their is so many options to what you can play (or create) to keep the party going for hours!
for snacks we would have bags of crisps & a bowl full of maltesers (a bags not enough!)

This was scarily difficult for me. There are far few multiplayer games now. But I got there. First to answer the secondary question we would of course have gummy bears and chocolate Santas to get in the Christmas mood.
Game one would have to be call of duty world at war. It’s the only call of duty game I own so it has to be the one. Even two player games can become hectic split screen battles with both players trying to shotgun their enemy. But a four player game, everyone having different guns, all on airfield, It would be amazing. Then switching to a zombie game to fight the zombies together. The fact that there is only one map is a bit of a downer. I would have to buy more of them.

Game two is obvious. Gran turismo 4.Yes four. We are really going for older games here aren’t we. You’re probably wondering why four. That’s because I’ve played it more and have almost all of the cars unlocked. It is great to all play the worst car in the game and have a race where we take hours. It would be brilliant.
Last but defiantly not least, we have play station all stars battle royale. A [arty fighter for ps3 has to be awesome. Plus none of us would have an advantage as I haven’t played it. Because of this I don’t have anything else to say.
So yeah that’s my answer.

My first choice would be Rock Band 3 because all of the group can participate. Second choice is Grand Turismo 5. Who doesn’t love owning their friends on the Nurburgring? My final choice is Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations. My mates and I have had countless hours of fun reliving our favourite moments from the Anime/Manga.

Continued…also an anime themed night with games such as Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, DragonBall Z HD Collection , One Piece Pirate Warriors and Bleach Soul Resurrección would be awesome.

Pong: This is the first game I remember and one of my earliest memories altogether! We’d spend hours to get the Atari to work (import!) but when it did it was brilliant. Even my mum would play, and she’s never touched another game since! Shame it did not survive: my brother and I decided to explore what its inwards looked like.
Super Monkey Ball: After wasting many years building my PS2 collection I decided NOT to have a console in my flat until I finished my Masters…then my brother gave me a Gamecube. I got Super Monkey Ball and before long the only thing we’d do with our girlfriends was to practice the art of catapulting monkeys into floating targets. There were laughs, swearing, and my, there were tears.
Heavy Rain: If anyone told me that I’d ever boot a game on my PS3 (I DID finish my Masters!) in which you’d spend the first hour getting dressed, using the loo and playing with the kids, and THAT would have everyone hooked up so badly they wouldn’t notice if their own kids went missing I would have thought they were mad. But damn me if I can recall any other game that demanded so badly to be enjoyed with others, and that made any thriller movie ever made seem as such a poor way to tell a story!

Game 1: Tekken/Soul Calibur
Game 2 (if we get there): Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars
Game 3 (again, if we get there): LittleBigPlanet
We usually start the night with a game everyone is familiar with and it usually ends up being winner stays on, which ensures rivalries pick up somewhere. If people get fed up, which we usually do by the time our thumbs are numb, then we play some SARPBC – if you don’t own it, you should! If we want to wind down at the end of the night, then LBP is the way to go, what with the limitless levels online.
Food: I usually bake something, so we always have a break for cake/biscuits/whatever it was.
Dress: Casual! But if we ever have a sports night, which are far too seldom, then that is often themed. And means FIFA/NHL starts with you always picking “your” team and then goes on to random teams for real competition!
Sometimes we have “online” evenings as well. So I’m afraid I can’t comment on what my friends wear or eat…but the games are always quality PS3 games!

Well done to all this week’s winners. Your codes will pop up as a PM in your account on the offical forums. This may take a few days as it can take some time for codes to be processed. I’ll update you if things are taking longer than expected.
See you all back here on Friday!

Most of the parties involving video games I’ve been to have involved drink and often we’ve played drinking games. It’s sort of a game within a game, or “Gameception”, which is apt as people often get as confused as to what’s going on as they do watching the movie starring Mr. DiCaprio.
First up would be a sports game. FIFA or Pro Evo, host’s choice. Rules are pretty simple. You’ll have a drink of your choice to drink during stoppages (ball out of play or any other loading), lager or beer is a good choice. You’ll also have a line of shots. Every goal you score, your opponent must drink a shot. Yellow cards are shots. Red cards means drinking the rest of your drink of choice and starting another. The loser drinks the rest of the drink of their choice. Winner stays on. If it’s a draw, extra time is played with double punishments (two shots for conceding a goal etc.). If it goes to penalties then each penalty has a punishment. Scoring is the standard shot, but a save from the keeper means you must drink a shot. It’s a game that’s guaranteed to get Messi!

Next up would be the “Rubbish Rental”. The host deliberately rents an awful game. A game with multi-player co-op is best for this. The rules vary for this but generally if there’s a cutscene people drink “one finger” (the drunk’s unit of measure) from the drink of their choice. If there’s awful voice acting, a phrase constantly repeated, a bad joke then you have to drink “two fingers”. Dying in the game or failure dependant on the game results in “four fingers” or a shot if there’s any left. Then there are glitches. A non-game breaker results in half your drink (floating objects, camera screw-up, collision failures). A game freezing glitch is the remainder of your drink. This continues into everyone gets bored of the game. Generally not that long…

[cont. again...]
Finally it’s the “Retro classic”. Standard choices are Super Mario Kart, Goldeneye, TimeSplitters, Smash TV, anything good really. Rules generally don’t apply by this point, aside from the no Blue Shells, Oddjob or Monkeys obviously. We’re usually running out of alcohol, far too drunk, struggling to hold a controller or more likely a combination of the three by this point so there’s not really penalties for being rubbish. It’s more now about kicking back and enjoying some great games, which you appreciate more after a rubbish one before and you’re “a bit” tipsy.
And that’s how we hold our ultimate gaming nights. Now if only some of us could hold our drink better…
Oh and as for fancy dress we once did one as video game characters. I went as the Prince of Persia from the 2008 game. Even had Red and Blue tights tied to my head. The whole room was kitted out with TVs and Consoles and covered in gaming icons like Space Invaders, an 8-Bit Mario etc. It was an awesome night, but a bit cold on the way home. Wasn’t the best costume choice for travelling in I must say…

It doesn’t really have to do with winning lol, it’s just that I genuinely put a lot more effort in then I should – I write all my answers out on Word and then take another few minutes to shorten it out. That’s atleast 20-25 minutes answering a simple question every week. You’d think I’m sitting a timed essay or something lol. I’m greatful for the victories, but I think I’m better of keeping the answers short and sweet, that way I can participate in the debates for fun rather then for competition.
Congrats on the victory hayznik, I’ll see you and Fred back on here on Friday
