Hi everyone! It’s been a little while since the last update but we’re really excited about the year ahead for PlayStation Plus as we strive to bring you great content and fantastic discounts on a range of games and services.
There are three new PS3 games and two for PS Vita in the line-up for February, as well as awesome titles such as Guardians of Middle Earth, Mortal Kombat and Jet Set Radio that are already available right now! So, without further ado…
New PlayStation 3 content
We’re very happy to announce that from 6th February for one month, you can download the awesome Sleeping Dogs.
This action adventure game from our friends at Square Enix takes you deep into the violent criminal underworld of vibrant, neon-lit Hong Kong. You’ll assume the role of Wie Shen, an undercover cop looking to take down the Triads from the inside. You’ll have to prove yourself worthy as you fight your way up the organisation, taking part in brutal criminal activities without blowing your cover.
Critics worldwide agree it’s a top-tier open-world action title – make sure you grab this while it’s available!
Your second addition to the Instant Game Collection is the extremely fun F1 Race Stars from Codemasters. The Plus service has been a little shooter-heavy over the last couple of months so in the interest of diversity why not kick back, relax, get some friends round and have a good time with this addictive multiplayer racer.
Your final PS3 addition this month is ingenious first person puzzler Quantum Conundrum, designed by Kim Swift – one of the creators of Valve’s classic brain-teaser Portal.
Quantum Conundrum sends you on a quest of inter-dimensional problem-solving to rescue your mad-scientist uncle, who’s gone missing somewhere in his labyrinthine mansion. The professor’s latest invention, the Inter-Dimensional Shift Device (or ISD), should prove quite useful in navigating the obstacles in each room – such as death lasers and pools of skin-melting “science juice.” Gulp.
New PS Vita content
First up for PS Vita on 13th February is the oft-requested WipEout 2048. Reborn for PS Vita to take advantage of the system’s unique features and dazzling OLED screen you can race up to eight players simultaneously online and compete for first place on the global leaderboards.
Next up, on 20th February, is an incredibly addictive game from our friends at Ubisoft. Lumines: Electronic Symphony is the first PS Vita outing for this popular franchise, bringing together block-dropping puzzle action with an all-new 3D graphics engine and some of the biggest electronic music artists around.
As usual, over the coming weeks you can also expect exclusive PS Plus discounts on lots of other titles, including Just Cause 1 and 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the Dust 514 Mercenary Pack and Alien Breed Trilogy. We’ll update you on these offers and more in the weekly Store posts. Also, Plus members will have access to an exclusive theme for Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch from 30th January.
On top of all that, I’m very pleased to announce that as of 6th February we will once again be bringing you a fantastic discount on the 90 day membership for PlayStation Plus. For two whole weeks you’ll be able to get over 30% off the regular price – that’s €9.99/£7.99, reduced from €14.99/£11.99. A bargain, no?
In summary
Leaving the Plus Service in February:
6th February: BioShock 2
6th February: Ratchet and Clank All 4 One
6th February: Cubixx HD
13th February: Jet Set Radio
20th February: Pinball Arcade
Entering the Plus Service in February:
6th February: Sleeping Dogs
6th February: Quantum Conundrum
6th February: F1 Race Stars
13th February: WipEout 2048
20th February: Lumines Electronic Symphony
If you are not currently a Plus member, visit our PlayStation Plus site to find out more about the service. Here you’ll learn all you need to know about the Instant Game Collection, which gives members access to at least 14 games at any one time and over 65 games across the course of a 12 month subscription – all for a one-off payment of just £39.99.
Remember, if you’ve not got access to your PS3 or PS Vita then you can also buy through our online store.

To get Metal Gear Solid HD as March’s freebie would be genius if you can.A few quality games in 1 download and you are not having to us give another fps.
I would love to have an answer on TheMART’s (post #275) and others valid question.
You seem to dodge the awkward ones. As I said before, great job getting the plus nation sleeping dogs. Sweeeeet

What in the world would possess you to add games that were on sale very recently?
Sleeping Dogs was on sale in the 12 days of Christmas sale if I remember and F1 Race Stars in January
Whilst I am way in front by using the PS+ service I am seriously questioning purchasing any games that are a) on sale or b) not AAA titles that I wan ton day 1.
Why not just wait for it on PS+?
Posted on 29 January, 2013 at 9:35 am by Chris Howe
We get so many requests for items to go on sale that at some point things are going to over lap. As a rule we try not to do it but we can’t always guarantee it

I’m still pretty excited about PS+ Vita content (Wipeout mainly), but I just saw that Americans got Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus… I’m sad now
Are there any plans for Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus coming to EU PS+ in near future? I don’t want to buy it just to find out it’s free 2 weeks later.

there are no immediate plans for it, but we can never say never

I have seen a few of requests for dead island, I hope you don’t listen to them because alot of my friends and I who have playstation plus have played through that game a couple of times already. Regarding the new line up for feb, I am very happy with what I’m getting thanks a lot. Could I request maybe far cry 3 for march? Too soon? ;D

Amazing month. It couldn’t be better. Sleeping Dogs is a game I always wanted to get but didn’t because of a combination of price and having so much else to play. I’ve always got waaaaaay too many games to make time for now thanks to plus. Wipeout is what I was expecting for Vita and it’s great we got that.
Could you just answer one question for me? Will you ever put PSP, PS1 or PS2 games in the IGC? There’s a lot of quality PSP, PS1 and PS2 games on the store I’d love for free. Getting these would make Plus even more perfect than it already is. Would you ever consider releasing these on plus? Please don’t ignore me. I can take a no if that’s the answer.
Posted on 29 January, 2013 at 9:32 am by Chris Howe
We don’t usually look at PS1 games but we may look at PS2 if they meet the quality bar that we set for the Plus service.
We have found though that there is more call for VITA native games for that side of the service than PSP titles

I would say what a good month to activate a months trial for PSN Plus and well think its a great service. Was wanting to check what the craze was all about with that F1 game and Sleeping Dogs looks epic and havent been able to try it.
I noticed you state the 30% off sale on the 3 months subscriptions would it be possible to buy 2 of those and get 6 months of plus?
Posted on 29 January, 2013 at 9:31 am by Chris Howe
Yes you can buy as many as you want at the discounted rate as you can stack them so they automatically roll over

This is a brilliant update…Wipeout2048 for Vita and Sleeping Dogs for PS3. I can’t wait.
How about some Dragon Age stuff (the first or second one with DLC included or discounted at least?)for PS Plus soon considering the third instalment is coming out later this year. Speaking of Bioware, why not include some Mass Effect (include the first one for free with 2 and 3 along with dlc discounted? seems a win win!) stuff too
Max Payne 3
Okami HD
Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection
GTAIV & Episodes (GTA V is coming soon after all)
Dead Island GOTY
Demons’s Souls or Dark Souls (with DS2 round the corner)
SSFIV Arcade

Great update I have never played Sleeping Dogs. I read it is a little like GTA witch is always a good thing. F1 Race Stars I love kart games It didn’t do well in the reviews but it looks ok. Not sure what Quantum Conundrum but ill give it ago. Wipeout I all ready have due the the £5 top up offer. But I don’t have Lumines so its all good.
This is exactly why I bought plus. Not only do we gets lots of games. We get games that for me personally I would not of heard of and let it slip past me.

First I would like to say great update, I don’t have any of the games, and wouldn’t mind trying Sleeping Dogs.
Second I would just like to ask if there is any chance EU PS+ will get the spyro games (1, 2 & 3), US got the ages ago, and they are probably some of my favourite PS1 games

Tech question for you. May have already been answered before but just some clarification on DLC and save game compatability with various versions of a game.
If I trade in my physical copies of Lumines and WipeOut 2048 (or any other physical disk/card for any PS3 or Vita game) delete the original installation and then download the digital copy, will all of my save games and DLC for that title still work?
I ask as I bought my physical copy of Uncharted: Golden Abyss in Asia and the DLC map pack bought via my EU based SEN account and the DLC does not work for me and many others in that situation.
I agree that PS+ has paid for itself already many times over, even more so if I can trade in my physical copies. Now I just need to know when PS Vita will have memory cards bigger than 32GB so I have room for all of this free stuff they keep throwing at us. I don’t think I will have to buy a new game now for quite a while…
…OK, maybe AC3 and then Last of Us (if I find the time).

Does SCEE perform weekly human sacrifices to obtain such quality titles every month?
SCEA gave its Plus members nothing more than PSN titles AND MINIS for 6 months straight last year, while during the same timeframe SCEE was delivering full retail games, sometimes even two in a month!!!!
You guys need to have a chat with SCEA to let them know how to do Plus properly.

If you can Chris please respond.
Before i start i want to commend you guys for getting a great 2012 game sleeping dogs on here so damn fast.
However i find it strange that you would put a game on here that was a 12 days of christmas deal. I mean i bought this just over a month ago and now its free. Its not like i randomly bought it at a store you guys discounted and promoted it.
This is like the 2nd month in a row with no content for me as an Australian subscriber. Lego Batman 2008 PSP edition, Gotham City Impostors (Its free on PC) and now no main content this month :/

You will be getting Sleeping Dogs in Australia

I know this might not be the place to post this, but when I log in my account through the website, it tells me I have no trophies and also I can’t choose a ps+ banner for my gamerid card and it says I need to be PS Plus, while I already am.
Is there a problem with the website, or should I freak out?
Btw, great content for February, I’m super pleased for Sleeping Dogs alone. all the rest is super welcome icing on the cake. yay!!

hi chris,
i would love to see dead island in the plus service!
i have played it for a few moments at a friends house, but havent got it myself. even though there are alot of people who have it, this would be the case for most every title you come up with. dead island would be AWESOME for peoplelike me who havent got it, and i would safely assume we are still in the majority in the plus service (if not on this forum, with more hardcore gamers).
hope to see it soon!

Shocking! F1 Race Stars and Sleeping Dogs were in the 12 “deals” of Christmas only a month ago! How many PS+ gamers snapped up those deals only to find a month later they are getting them for free!
SCEE really need to come up with a system whereby this doesn’t happen, its plain deceptive and dishonest and is the reason why I have not bought a single game off the PS store since I joined PS+.
There must be laws against this?

I agree with you homerjnick.
I have bought Sleeping Dogs in 12 “deals” of Christmas. It is very unpleasant surprise that SCEE is giving it away for free as PS+ content. It shouldn’t be available for PS+ for example for next 6 months.

Amazing Feb content Chris!
But when the igc was first announced and advertised around July I think (that is before the Vita portion was added in November). It was marketed that it would include at least 45 games (ps3) now it is being advertised that the igc will have 65 games, 39 (ps3) and 26 (Vita). For those without a Vita it would appear to be a shortage of 6(ps3) games of what was originally advertised over the year of membership.
I am however, happy with the content as the igc stands now but can understand the frustrations of those PS3 only plus members.

“Ross promised us 2 games every 4 weeks, not every 4 or 5 weeks depending on the length of the month. He granted us that we would receive 13*2 games, instead of 12*2 as in the USA, as a year has 52 weeks. And 52/4 is 13, not 12. Hell, he even did the calculation himself and till he left, it worked exactly that way as he had promised. And now you turn up and tell us that it we don’t receive 2 games every 4 weeks, as they’d come when they replace other titles, which might remain longer than 8 weeks in the IGC.”
“by Chris Howe
We promise to deliver you up to 65 games in a year across the different platforms as all our advetising shows. How this fits into the schedule can be determined by many factors some of which are out of our control but whatever happens we will deliver that amount so you are not going to miss out on any games. We also delivered you extra PS3 titles outside of the normal update in the form of Big Sky Infinity and Knytt Underground in December if you remember correctly”
336
Posted on 29 January, 2013 at 10:44 am by TheMART
First, this answer still doesn’t explain what Ross has promised. He was talking specific about the PSVita offering, not the PS3 one. A PSVita only owner could care less.
Second, I don’t care what extra PS3 titles SCEE gives outside the normal update, that is on SCEE’s account. It shouldn’t be of any influence how many PSVita games are given and with what frequency.
It would be pretty weird if PS3 would get 60 games (based on most users) and SCEE gives PSVita the remaining 5 suddenly.
If Ross gives a promise with exact number of games and timing for PSVita releases out of SCEE’s name, I expect it to be right and don’t like to be pointed back to ‘we’ve advertised 65 games for all platforms’. What will happen when PS4 launches and it gets content, even less for PSVita? PSVita users that got PS+ for just that device paid the full price for PS+ too. If Ross/a mod claimed a certain amount of games to be given to the platform, people count on it.

great month yet again
I cant wait for sleeping dogs and quantum conundrum though not so much for F1 :/
it didn’t get any above average reviews and I already have MS:Apocalypse from PS+ if I want an amazing racing game
I still hope you will add one month Max Payne 3 ,
a great racing game like: Split second/ Blur / modnation racer
and my biggest wish is that XCOM will eventually find its way on EU PS+

Last but not least, about the 4 week cycle instead of a month:
“Ross McGrath has detailed this month’s PlayStation Plus update for Europe over on the official blog.
You’ll have no doubt noticed that Europeans will get ten games as opposed to twelve over in the States. However, because SCEE will cycle the games more often (every 3 months rather than every 4) in effect we’ll actually get more after a year.
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2012/06/05/heres-junes-european-playstation-plus-update/
And:
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/06/05/heads-up-playstation-plus-update-6th-june-2012/
“PlayStation®Plus Game of the Month
The Game of the Month will be changed every 4 weeks”
Thus the 4 week cycle is confirmed a couple of times. ‘How this fits in the schedule’ is a whole other approach.

Seems like a good month
but…
To be honest, I already do have and finished Sleeping Dogs on Xbox 360, and Quantum Conundrum on PC.
F1 looks kiddish… but maybe it’ll be fun.
I’ll be just waiting for the Vita games, Since I’m subbing PS Plus just for them…
It would be nice to get ONE of these for vita, in March:
Assassins Creed Liberation,
Little Big Planet Vita,
Call of Duty Declassified,
NFS Most Wanted,
Ninja Gaiden Sigma,
Shinobido 2,
UMVC 3,
or
Unit 13.
You pick
P.S:
PS Store in our country DOESN’T HAVE movies at all…
Why?

In addition to the above will PlayStation Plus subscribers in EU between now and March 4th get 15 months for the price of 12 months, with a new 12 month PS Plus Subscription? Or is this just US Only? Thanks

Posted on 29 January, 2013 at 11:59 am by adumr82
Chris,
What does the total in the year have to do with anything. The refresh pattern was laid out at the start and that’s what we signed up to. By you logic you could just give us 65 games one month and say your done for the year. You know as well as I do that is nonsense. You have moved the goal posts, either through ignorance or arrogance and really this should be rectified.
And when I say you I don’t necessarily me personally but SCEE as a whole.

Already have Sleeping Dogs, but those who don’t should really be excited as it is really an awesome game and will keep completion-ists busy for a solid 30-40 hrs. Very nice update, hope to see such new games being added to Plus in the near future. Sleeping Dogs is barely 6 months old.

Hi Chris,
First of all, thank you for the offers, they’re great.
Though, I have a question about January content. Region Turkey didn’t get Mortal Kombat this month, instead we got Gotham City Imposters.
I wanted to ask why we got excluded. I asked this several times to Playstation support, no answer yet.
Cheers

First of all homerjnick, whatever you buy is then yours to keep. Playing the same game through PS+ is only temporary whilst subscribing to the service, but you probably know that already. If you don’t want to buy those games, wait to see if they appear on Plus, but there’s no guarantee that they will.
I do agree to some extent on what you’re saying though. Microsoft had deals throughout the holidays and notified customers what would be on sale beforehand. This gave you the option to wait for the offer to appear. I don’t see why Sony do it differently as people would most likely hesitate buying a certain game now. It would make it a lot easier for them to tell customers what will be available in the upcoming months like the way Sky Movies operate, but they like to surprise people. Sometimes people don’t like to be surprised, especially if it’s the game they just bought. So I can understand why you would be annoyed.
