UPDATE: Many thanks to everyone who contributed this week – it was a great discussion and all your comments have been noted company-wide. The following 10 posters can expect to find a When Vikings Attack! download code in their PMs on the official forum later this week: S-o-h-a-i-l (post 14), Q-v9 (29), Mark917 (47), GothPunk (52), declan__watson (57), kriskrosbbk (135), theJJ88 (142), CaEsAr- (143), VenomousAlbino (160), Lucreto (221/222).
ORIGINAL POST: So, it’s been 48 hours or so now since our big PlayStation 4 reveal on Wednesday, and hopefully you’ve all had a chance to digest everything that was announced – from the DualShock 4, to the cloud service, to – most importantly – the games themselves.
Duly, this week’s debate topic is about as straightforward as they come. We’d love to hear what you think. Which games really impressed? What aspects of the hardware and online functionality stood out for you? And conversely, what reservations do you have?
The 10 most thoughtful posts win a download voucher for When Vikings Attack! Complete Edition, which incorporates the excellent When Vikings Relax! DLC released earlier this month, alongside the full game. It’s Cross Buy, so this one’s good for both PS Vita and PS3 owners. Good luck!

The loss of backwards compatibility is a big let down, and the biggest reason as why I will not get it at launch. The side effects of this decision are that I will hold of buying a lot of games, in order to clear my backlog. For instance I decided to not buy Daggerdale, even though of it having a discount. And a bigger one is that I’m now undecided on which console I will buy next generation.

Can’t wait! I have pre-ordered mine the day i could. Great showing Sony and it only shows, that you (finally) are listening to your fans. All those features, man, that’s gonna be great. Now I just hope that that Holiday 2013 date also includes Europe/Denmark… PLEASE Sony. Japan only want’s their 3DS’s, and we our PlayStation’s. The western market is way more important

Just wondering, will you be releasing Counterstrike: Global Offensive on PS4? Perhaps you could let us know. Because unfortunately it seems that this game has been completely forgotten about by Sony and Valve with no solid news on a release date since August. In fact, Sony gave us no news other than “Not this week” back in August so you could say that we have NEVER had any solid news

I think PS4 will fail just like the PS Vita has because they say simple but there minds are backwards 8GB memory WTH? They should stick a one or two terror byte memory in it. No PS3 games work on PS4 console what a joke that is as this whole conversation on PS4 is a downfall for S.O.N.Y.
Graphics wise and using AMD is a smart move for PS4 but nobody will buy the PS4 as what i just said on the start of this message.
Enuff Said….No Blu Ray Player In PS4 console said CEO of Sony Playstation….. No DVD No CD No BLU-RAY will work in PS4

PS4 Specs: It’s obvious that Sony want the console to last, which is great.I believe that each console generation should last as long as possible, so that we don’t have to buy new ones all the time.
Dualshock 4: The Dualshock 4 looks cool. I really like the design, though iI had hoped for a few more buttons.
Social Features: It gives more reasons to use your Playstation. I like the idea of being able to capture footage and livestream directly thorugh PSN.I really like the idea of a friend being able to take over your game if you’re having a bad time. I also find the concept of helping your friends by dropping items and stuff like that really cool. It looks promising.
Cloud Service: Now THIS is interesting. Being able to play games while you download them is very cool. When I buy a game I want to play it immideatly, so this feature is great. I also love Sony’s approach to remote play. I love my Vita, and having it be even more useful is very good.
Games: The most important things about consoles is games, and Sony seems to have gotten that right. The games shown looks very promising, especially Watch Dogs. I was pleasantly surprised about Killzone. Looking forward for more games.

The games look amazing! I want every single one at launch, and the streaming while you download is a great incentive. The share button is an incredible step forward, I can’t even imagine all the ways this will evolve the gaming experience. And the fleshing out of remote play feels like what the feature has been building to.
For the future, all I hope for is that PlayStation takes steps to becoming more global, with a worldwide launch and as many simultaneous store releases as possible.

Within the code’s contents were four avatars, a game pack and the PS Vita version of the game. Unfortunately I don’t own a Vita, economy and all that. However, I am glad to hear my comment, as well as the others’, were the talk of the lunch room. I didn’t think the weekend debate was such a large topic every week. Warms my heart.

Overall i think the show an 8 out of 10, minus 2 points for the stuff you held back for E3.
The most mind blowing moment for me was when Cerny announced there was 8gb GDDR5 ram in ps4, to put that into perspective the nvidia geforce titan only has 6gb GDDR5 ram and thats the best graphic card on the market right now.
I just have 1 concern, although im totally pumped with the share button announcement i hope its not exclusively locked to facebook so we have a myriad of options when sharing the video like youtube and so on.

@255 “8GB memory WTH? They should stick a one or two terror byte memory in it.”
It’s 8 GB of RAM, not hard drive size! I don’t even think the hard drive size has been confirmed yet. And in case you didn’t know, the PS3 only has like ½ GB of RAM so it’s a huge step up.
And just in case you were suggesting that they should put a couple of tera bytes of RAM into the PS4… Well, not likely to happen in this century.

@255. who cares about Backwards compatibility? if you own ps3 games you own a ps3 so wen you get a ps4 you just keep your ps3 aswell. It won’t fail either, the people who say they won’t buy ps4 are the people that can’t afford 1,& you’ll just have to look on in envy as we all get to play some kick ass games on a sick console. If you think xbox is gunna do better you should be on a microsoft forum with all the people who have microjunk.

Ive been a playstation user since the first one and this is probably the first console that i will not be buying. Simple because it has no backwards compatibility with older games. i have a ton of ps3 games a bought more the 575 items in the playstation store. not being able to transfer that over is a big let down.
Sony lives in a day and age that they have the technical knowledge to let almost every playstation game work on one console.
But they decided to restrict us again from playing our old games.
Its ridicules and dont want to be a part of that sneaky old business model anymore. Im not going to re-buy them again on the ps4 like we had to do with the ps1 and ps2 games on the ps3.
Instead im looking forward to Valve’s plans with the Steam Box.
This is the future.

Part 1
I’ve been thinking about online gaming for a long time now and since PS4 is a “social gaming platform”, I thought it would be nice to share my ideas again (the following is from 2011).
“There are different level of players, but in general, players can be dividend into two main groups – those who play daily and those who play occasionally. So if you belong to the last group and want to play online, there’s a high probability that you will end up playing against a seasoned onliner and that will eliminate the fun factor entirely as that person is way better.
From this we can deduce that online matching has to be a complex process. There’s a need for ingame stats to be added to matching, so you will end up playing with somebody who is on similar level with you. This results in happier gamers who adore their gaming ecosystem.
This calls for standardized ranking system for games which calculate the level of players considering several variables from the game. For example in the case of Test Drive Unlimited, they could be:
* Total distance driven
* Ingame level
* Average time differnce in time trials
* etc
271
Posted on 26 February, 2013 at 9:33 am by weaselEST
Part 2
There should also be the possibility to adjust this matching system in players side, so they could choose who they’d like to play at certain times (equal to their level or maybe challenge themselves and match to players who have higher rank).
In addition there should be official sites where I could review these rankings and add similar players (to me) to my friends list, so I would be able to connect with them easily. This should be a must for every console supplier to evolve the social aspect around its platform.”

Make the Store/PS4 use torrent technique if that’s not already planed, that’s how you make the fastest network on the planet.

i love ps3 and network, why when call of duty black ops 2 dlc was put 4 sale on psstore and you took our money from our wallet was the dlc not available to download til unknown date, supposedly now march1, if this happens out of playstation control yuo should refund $ back to wallet, if you can take it out you should be able to put it back, this did not happen with previous callofduty expansion packs or modern warfare, this has been the most disappointing experience i have had with playstion and i have owned every playstation consoletype made, i am looking forwards to ps4, i hope i get a reply regarding this issue, i will be disapointed if i am just ignored , bye from darren and debra, we hope ps4 is fantastic

This is late, but on the off-chance anyone is still reading new comments – the main concern I have with the PS4 is how much the business practices that have become popular this generation (to the detriment of the gaming experience on the whole) will carry over; online passes specifically. The plans presented for the network are impressive, and logically such a network could only be created and maintained if subsidised by a subscription cost – which is fine, if properly implemented. The PS3′s main draw over the 360 was the free online multiplayer; if possible the new network should maintain this basic free multiplayer service while offering more via tiered subscription packages.
If the network service is as valuable as it appears it’s going to be, then you can expect a large number of people to subscribe to at least a base package. Assuming this, Sony could find themselves in a position to do away with online passes for at least their first party titles – this would be a meaningful step towards un-doing the damage that has been caused by the practice this generation, and would be a great feather in Sony’s cap.
