Music Unlimited update: iOS offline coming soon, Snoop channel, and more

SnoopLionReggaePicks_PrimaryIcon

Hello there PlayStation Blog. What a busy couple of weeks! Here is a quick update of what’s been going on in the world of Music Unlimited and the updates we’re bringing to the service.

Snoop Lion Channel
The former D-O-double-G’s transformation into Snoop Lion has been the talk of the town in recent months and this week has seen the release of his first album Reincarnation under his new moniker. To celebrate this, Snoop himself has exclusively selected a channel’s worth of his favourite Reggae tracks for Music Unlimited that you can now listen to here.

Ask Kodaline your questions
Next month we will be interviewing Dublin-based alternative group Kodaline and we’re calling on you to pitch in your burning questions for the outstanding quintet. Just post your questions below. The new album In a Perfect World is out June 10th, but you can listen to their latest single High Hopes here.

iOS offline coming soon
We’ve recently released an update for iOS which will fix any minor bugs you are experiencing using Music Unlimited on your iPhone. However, we are very excited to announce that our summer 2013 update will feature the long awaited offline capabilities, so stay tuned!

Depeche Mode exclusive
In partnership with our friends at Xperia Lounge, we’re offering an exclusive show case featuring Depeche Mode from Live on Letterman. The shows Emmy award-winning production team have shot Alicia Keys, Mumford and Sons and Taylor Swift in recent months, but this one off performance is up there with the best of them. Check out the exclusive here.

Depeche Mode Xperia Campaign.

New releases
We’re bringing the entire Red Hot Chilli Peppers back catalogue to the service from 30th April, so whether you’re a fanatical about Freaky Styley, or besotted with Blood Sugar Sex Magic, MU will be the go-to destination for your daily funk-rock fix.

In addition, there are plenty of big releases coming to the service in May, starting with Deerhunter’s album Monomania (6th) and the new one from Vampire Weekend, Modern Vampires of the City (13th May). 30 Seconds to Mars‘ Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams is released the following week (20th), as well as the hugely anticipated Daft Punk album ‘Random Access Memories’, featuring the brilliant new single Get Lucky feat. Pharrell Williams. You can listen to it here!

Alternative Dance band Crystal Fighters new single You & I is available at the end of the month (27th). Finally, after six years in the making, a little known desert rock outfit known as Queens of the Stone Age will be releasing their sixth studio album in early June. More on that next time…

“…we are very excited to announce that our summer 2013 update will feature the long awaited offline capabilities…”

Hurray! :)

Now, if that update also just happened to make the iOS client universal, well, that would be the icing on the Music Unlimited cake :)

Would be nice if you could get the android app to work. And get more K-Pop and J-pop!

Hi Tuna74. K-Pop and J-Pop are both coming very soon, as well as new updates for the Android app.

orton131 26 April, 2013 @ 1:48 pm   3

I don’t know why people are still saying the android app doesn’t work, works fine on my phone. I do have problems syncing my music to offline mode though, it’ll randomly freeze or decide it doesn’t want to do a few tracks & I get an error. (running android 2.3.7 btw)

Is Motionless In White’s album Infamous back up now? I noticed it was taken down, presumably to fix?

Also will Sleeping with Sirens new album “Feel” be going up on release day? (June 4th)

Thanks! :)

    Matt Webster 29 April, 2013 @ 10:31 am

Hey Orton131, I’ll investigate the MIW album for you now. New albums are almost always available on the day of release, but we’ll look into “Feel” specifically.

One feature that would be nice is some kind of error-reporting, there are several albums thats incomplete or just plain wrong(cypress hill making salsa with female vocals?), and artists that’s misslabeled (“Bug” vs “The Bug” for example).

Finally iOS offline playlists. Now update the Vita app for high quality mode and don’t forget to include that feature for the iOS update.

Guys you seriously need to improve the smoothness of library operability and playlists across all platforms. I 2nd @4′s suggestion also, the database is a mess. Take John Williams for instance. His entry is shared by 2 people, the film composer AND guitarist.

As in comment 1, please make the IOS app universal. Also, is it not possible to mention the release date of albums or songs?

Will all of daft punks album be DRM online only? and android app on xperia Z still has some bugs to fix.

To Matt Webster as your music Unlimited is a total scam in selling a service that lets you play music its very shamful in saying a free month trail then Automatically take money outta the bank account as you had the free trail straight away!!

I would advise All PlayStation Network Users Not to Install Music Unlimited for this reason unless you wanna pay for Free!

Very Shamful Acts Matt Webster Music Scam Unlimited

Hi SetsunaF_Seiei_, sorry to hear about your concerns with the service. As you can see in the comments below, it’s made clear in the sign-up process that the 30 day trial rolls over, which is the case in the vast majority of subscription services, be it music or otherwise. You can cancel your subscription easily in Account Management at any time, but please bear in mind you can only sign up for 1 x 30 day free trial with your SEN or PSN account.
All details can be found here: http://uk.playstation.com/legal/detail/item332493/Music-Unlimited-30-Day-Free-Trial/

If this is true, what a miserable scheme:

http://www.macbrosplace.com/psns-music-unlimited-free-trial-warning/

And you Sony keep pumping it?

OAP_Yaster 27 April, 2013 @ 3:10 pm   12

In the description for the “Music Unlimited 30 Day Premium Trial” it states “Unless you cancel your subscription prior to the end of the initial 30-day Subscription Period, your subscription will automatically renew into a paid-for subscription. This subscription will renew automatically at the end of the Subscription Period in accordance witht he Terms of Service/User Agreement”. Seems pretty clear. Spotify does the same thing.

@OAP_Yaster

Your Wrong as those functions devices has been removed once you install Music Unlimited the device takes away your psn funds straight away or takes it straight away from bank account details theres no free to trail! even if you delete your bank details they still take your money even if you have no funds in your psn credits the next top up they take it out of that iv tested this myself.

How many times!!

ALWAYS READ THE T&Cs!!!!

PS+ does the same thing. Simple thing to do whenever you get a free months trial or offers that are similar it is safe to assume you are locked into a renewal of contract unless you state otherwise.

This is basic sales technique 101. Nearly all companies operate this way. I really don’t understand why you are surprised!?

A hard lesson learnt. ;-)

EXAMPLE:
If I take SKY’s half price film package for 6 months then at the end of that 6 month period I will still have that service and I will be paying full price unless I have opted out of said service contract.

Like I said it’s normal business practice by 95% of companies.

My Missus took the 1 month free trial for Music Unlimited and made sure she cancelled the auto renewal function.
Her trial ended and she never got billed for anything.
