Remastered PS2 classics launch this Spring in glorious handheld HD

Today we’re really happy to announce that two much-loved PlayStation icons are heading to PS Vita.

First up, 16th April sees the release of The Sly Trilogy, which brings together three PlayStation 2 classics: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honour Among Thieves, all fully remastered in high definition and optimized for PS Vita.

The Sly Trilogy sees the mischievous raccoon and his gang of eccentric friends pull off daring heists in a trio of hugely entertaining platforming adventures. Packed full with mini-games and thrilling missions from across the globe, The Sly Collection masterfully blends stealth, thievery, combat, strategy and exploration into one great value package.

Then on 8th May, The God of War Collection arrives, bringing the original God of War and God of War 2 to your handheld. Experience nonstop action in the brutal world of ancient Greece as the legendary Spartan Kratos seeks revenge on Ares, the God of War, and tries to accomplish what no mortal has ever done… alter the course of Fate itself.

Featuring re-mastered graphics, Trophy support plus Touchscreen and Dual Analogue Controls, this is the perfect combination of both nostalgia and nonstop bloody action!

Both The Sly Trilogy and God of War Collection will be available as a physical release and digitally on PlayStation Store. We’ll confirm pricing details a little closer to launch.

Excellent news! :D
But Sony, PLEASE bring out the 64 Gb card here soon! And a decent price! It’s becoming a rapid bottle-neck in my opinion.

Never played God Of War on PS2. I did play GOW1 and enjoyed it on PS3 and 3. Never got around to playing 2. I will have to get this. Sadly could not get into the sly cooper series.

Will they have cross-play, cross-buy, cross-save and/or cross-trophy support?

solarwind12 10 February, 2014 @ 10:47 pm   4

Fantastic news, just take my money now, GoW on the go, yay.. But may?, that’s ages away.. Hmm, any beta testing needed you know where to look.

Great news, but who are the developers of these two ports?

    Fred Dutton 12 February, 2014 @ 9:09 am

I’m still clarifying for Sly, but God of War Collection for PS Vita is being handled by Sanzaru Games.

Not Cross-Buy.
Calling it now.

solarwind12 10 February, 2014 @ 10:51 pm   7

Cannot see em having any cross anything, be no point buying them if they did.. Most probably just recoded versions for vita only, hopefully that may keep the price low, but am not too bothered in GoWs case what they charge.

This would be 1 & 2′s THIRD release now. How about a new GoW title instead? PLEASE!

Yeah!!! Been waiting for this! God of War Vita was already announced back in the summer, but Sly Cooper is an awesome surprise!

Fred, are these 2 collections Cross-Buy enabled (like the Jak & Daxter HD collection)? I already bought them digitally a while ago, and I ‘d like to revisit them on my PS Vita.

Also, any chance that more HD collections come to Vita? Zone of the Enders (it was to come to the handheld along with its PS3 counterpart, but sadly Kojima canceled it), Ratchet & Clank, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, and MGS Peace Walker (not the unplayable PSP version…) would be perfect.

Kresnik258 10 February, 2014 @ 11:19 pm   10

Gosh darn it. I bought the Sly Collection about 3 weeks ago for PS3 because it had been like 9 months since the ESRB rating and I presumed it wasn’t coming for Vita.

Now I’ll have to pick it up. I do about 90% of my gaming on Vita these days so it’s a lot more convenient.

Hope the quality of the port is better than the Jak Collection. You really need to get that patched.

Don’t suppose these will have crossbuy will they? I already own the digital versions of the PS3 collections and not sure if I want to re buy them again.

Hi, any chance we will get the GoW Ghost of Sparta with trophy support for the Vita? I know we can play the psp version, but it doesn’t have trophies.

CaptainSellers 10 February, 2014 @ 11:38 pm   13

All that’s missing now is Ratchet & Clank

Are they any plans to do that Sony? I’m sure it would see just as many if not more sales than Sly and God of War!

Definitely looking forward to God of War collection on Vita – for some reason they didn’t interest me on PS3, but I’ll be picking up a copy of this (in between all the other great things I’ll be picking up and importing over the next few months.)

Hey Fred – any news on whether we’ll get a system update to remove the 100 bubble limit on Vita. I’ve just finished installing my collection on my new 64Gb card, and with 18 mandatory system icons, I’m sure I’ll hit the bubble limit before I hit storage capacity on the card. Every message board and forum I go to has people asking the same thing – it’s a really unpopular restriction.

    Fred Dutton 11 February, 2014 @ 9:47 am

I’m afraid I’ve got no news to share today about future PS Vita firmware updates.

The sly collection is going to be a day 1 for me!

Shinoda_2qx 10 February, 2014 @ 11:59 pm   16

How about some vita exclusives instead? All 5 of these titles have been ported once already (ps2 -> ps3), do we really need them re-released again? I own the originals on ps2, and I own the disked versions of the re-releases on ps3 (for the trophy support), but I’m not gonna buy them a third time, no matter how good they are.

The vita is an extraordinary handheld.

But it’s being hindered by ports of games a decade old – and older.

It needs exclusives (none of this “exclusive for a year before we update it to HD for PS3 and XBox” either – real exclusives that don’t feel short and tacky).

Oxymoron28 11 February, 2014 @ 12:17 am   18

Sony can you please please please, remove the 100 icon limit on the vita?!

I hope they’re ported better than the Jak Trilogy. The frame rates are atrocious in that collection, I’m surprised I even made it to Jak 3. Bluepoint and Armature would get those collections going 60FPS.

Nath_gamer 11 February, 2014 @ 2:46 am   20

Yus! very welcoming news! :D

Great news on Sly, GOW only to those who had no occasion to play it on ps3/ps2 which I guess is not that many of playstation fans:).But more games on Vita are always welcome!

@Fred: I know this may not be the right topic but I would like to ask is there any chance for Persona titles(not Persona 4 Golden) to be on sale anytime soon? In my opinion regular price is too high for old titles like these but I’d love to discover series after great P4 Golden.

    Fred Dutton 11 February, 2014 @ 9:49 am

They were on sale last year if my memory serves me correctly. I don’t believe there are any price custs coming in the short term, but it’s certainly something that could happen again.

Redworthy 11 February, 2014 @ 3:37 am   22

I own the Sly Trilogy on PS3 (Got it for Christmas) will I have to buy it again if I wanted to play it on Vita or will it be Cross Buy?

If you’ve played something on ps3 why would you want to play it on Vita.I’d choose ps3 over vita everytime apart from exclusives,ps one,psp and minis.

Also don’t understand the draw of remote play why would i want to play it a 1080p game on a 5″ 960 x 544 screen instead of a 51″ 1080p

LeftMonocle 11 February, 2014 @ 7:32 am   25

Did you mean: The Sly Trilogy and God of War Collection coming soon to PS4?

It’s great, but what about new first-party exclusives?

LordRastan 11 February, 2014 @ 8:18 am   27

great news!!!!

but, please, PLEEEEASSEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Don’t make another crap like jak trilogy, with frame rate drops and input lag so high to render the games almost unplayable…

please… I beg you….

cowbanana 11 February, 2014 @ 8:29 am   28

How about some screenshot from The God of War Collection? I love those games, but I’m really worried you had some 3rd rate team port them with atrocious results. You, Sony, have put some really low quality, junk ports out on the Vita!

Could you post some screens/videos to show us the quality? No media at this point is rather worrying.

What about borderlands 2 for vita? We want to see gameplay!

US collection covers are so much better. GOW Collection EU cover is atrocious.
I even imported US Ratchet and Clank Collection because US cover is much better.

FatalExpert 11 February, 2014 @ 9:09 am   31

New games? You’re really ripping it with some of these releases.

INS1GHTFUL 11 February, 2014 @ 9:19 am   32

i already have GOW collection but i never got round to playing it. If the price is right I wouldnt mind getting GOW2.

I would love if kingdom hearts 1.5 and 2.5 came to vita. please nudge squenix. i would much rather play them on the go

Futureshark 11 February, 2014 @ 9:20 am   33

I’ll be getting GoW collection, how about a VITA reissue of OKAMI and ICO & Shadow Of The Colossus next please?
All of those titles would suit the VITA perfectly IMHO.

cowbanana 11 February, 2014 @ 9:20 am   34

God of War Collection, Vita footage:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIx7Di26Xyg

This has somewhat removed my fear of the collection being a horrible port job. The gameplay looks really smooth and all the particle/effects work seems to be intact. Doesn’t look like native resolution, but I can live with that as long the game plays smoothly and otherwise looks nice. Having these classics on a portable is pretty cool.

cowbanana 11 February, 2014 @ 9:22 am   35

I just posted YouTube video links of the GoW collection, together with some positive thoughts, but the comment is awaiting moderation. Good job, nanny-forum software!

before i even think about buying these ports i would like to know what studio did the ports becouse i now know what studio’s i cant trust with porting

and what about the borderlands port ? the us got a release date and we dont

thnx for the reply fred

Great news… :)

MaikelSteneker 11 February, 2014 @ 10:14 am   39

If these have cross buy support, it’s a really nice deakm especially if there’s also a cross save update (but I’m not counting on that).

I think it would be great if Sony supported cross buy between PS3, Vita and PS4 with games like Sly, God of War, Jak & Daxter etc. It’s really way more tempting to buy a system (especially a hanheld) if you already own some games on it.

I hope to see good news on this soon!

Hope these games are good ports and not as Jak & Daxter Trilogy HD…
Can’t play Jak & Daxter on Vita because it has more lag that a Ps4 game on Ps2, what a scam.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EUAbEcNjHg

Anyways, I think we all want to have exclusives like Killzone, Gravity Rush or Tearaway. Would be better if we have more and no only ports of ps2/ps3.

Cheers

kid_Jump94 11 February, 2014 @ 10:38 am   41

ooh nice ;) excited for these two, never played sly or god of war 2 so! ^-^

Lifesavingairbag 11 February, 2014 @ 10:41 am   42

Any chance of an Indie sale in the next few months?

vectormatic 11 February, 2014 @ 10:53 am   43

Hey Fred, perhaps you could pitch this to the guys who make the decisions, but how about porting Killzone:HD to the vita? You guys (well, one of your studios) already did a PS3 port, so there should be some people around with knowledge about the codebase, and KZM proved the Vita can handle a good FPS

Throw KZ:Liberation in there (download code if need be in terms of cart size), and you guys can have my money.

I know it’s completely off topic, but any idea if EU will be seeing the new Gold Headset for PS4/Vita?

@ scarew

yesterday

@ VaVeTi I only see it on US sites, no UK retailer has it listed unless it’s an import.

@ scarew

the sale of the gold headset started yesterday in my country

your country’s playstation crew told us that and i can order them on dutch websites

Gamesgbkiller 11 February, 2014 @ 11:37 am   48

I hope Sly Cooper is better than Jak & Daxter port.

Great news, and I love the new look to the site as well.

    Fred Dutton 11 February, 2014 @ 11:56 am

Thanks! We’re still pushing elements out now so it won’t look ‘as it should’ for another couple of hours. I’ll have a proper post about it up a little later this afternoon.

Nice love the sly trilogy and will definitely play it again on Vita, also I’m not to bothered whether or not it’s cross buy all I care is that the trophies are separate (Need them plats) and I suppose cross save is a nice feature to have too.
