More details on Bloodborne, coming exclusively to PS4 in 2015

Find out more about From Software's extraordinary new action RPG

Hello PlayStation fans. This is Masaaki Yamagiwa from Japan Studio. I am here to talk about a new action RPG, Bloodborne, which will launch early 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation 4 console.

Bloodborne is a new collaboration for us, being developed by FromSoftware and produced by SCE Japan Studio. This game will transport players to a dark and terror-filled gothic world, a world full of deranged beings and nightmarish creatures.

Bloodborne takes place in an ancient, forgotten city called Yharnam, known for an old medical remedy. Over the years, many hopeless and afflicted people have made long pilgrimages to Yharnam in search of help. As the main character, you are one of these travelers. However, you find that Yharnam is also cursed with a horrible endemic illness. You must navigate the perilous streets of this city, fighting off nightmarish creatures, malformed beasts and deranged mobs stricken with this horrific illness. Face your fears as you discover the secrets and mysteries of this dark and horrific world where danger, death and madness lurk around every corner.

In Bloodborne, the combat is based on intense life-threatening battles. One of the ways we are bringing that sense of danger to life is by keeping the deep strategic elements from Demon’s Souls, while also transitioning from the passive and block-and-attack style of Demon’s Souls to a quicker, more offensive and active combat style with close-range weapons and guns.

From the beautiful and melancholic architecture to the debris lining the street, Bloodborne will deliver an extremely rich and detailed world, all thanks to the power of the PlayStation 4 system. In addition, the PS4 system has allowed us to have an expanded draw distance, so we can show more of the world at any one time. New lighting effects allow us to add more atmosphere and tension to the game, making the horrifyingly detailed beasts and giant boss enemies you’ll be facing even more frightening.

I hope to be able to share more about our online features later this year, but I can say that we are developing new kinds of online experiences that allow users to share their adventures. We also look forward to giving fans new ways of playing and sharing thanks to the PS4 system’s Share capabilities.

Special message from Director Hidetaka Miyazaki:

“Creating Bloodborne as a completely new game on the new PlayStation 4 hardware has allowed us to really push the envelope in myriad ways. That being said, in more ways than one, it also very much retains our distinct, signature style. As has been at the core of our development philosophy since Demon’s Souls, we make true games for people who love games. Please watch for more to come on Bloodborne, and thank you very much for your support.”

i hope the game will be more challenging than Demon’s Souls and i hope it will NOT have regenhealth
make a Hardcore game for Hardcore Gamers
don’t dumb down the game please
because im sick and tired playing Casual Games “easy games with handholding a.k.a cancer of gaming”

“Don’t wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” – Jim Rohn :) i hope you’ll understand

Souls series have been well-received even though the difficulty level, so I doubt they need to care about that. So rest easy while you can and prepare for another challenge. :D

i keep my finger crossed :D

To me magic potions that heal instantly every wound and regenerative health are equally lame and ridiculous.
Game should challenge the payers in other ways instead of using the same old expedients.

Just let the geniuses make the game like they want to make it .. these guys made Daemon souls and a large part of the team made DS1 .. both excellent games .. Another team made DS2 which many found to be a lesser game compared to Demon souls and dark souls.

I want difficulty that doesn’t devolve into cheapness. To me, a little hand holding can be fine. But dont then make a boss cheap by letting them teleport, have infinite healing abilities, and only one chance to attack them for every 10 minutes they attack you. Because it ruins it.

I believe every game should have hand holding for the start, then be like a parent watching a child on their first bike after removing the stabalisers. Watching you, making sure you’re ok, but only really popping up to say anything if you’re clearly gonna struggle. Then they let you ride alone. Before you know it, you’re on your own riding up mountains, doing Triathalons and all sorts without any help at all.

At that point, you’re using your knowledge and your skill to overcome tasks that at one point would seem impossible, but are now just a challenge. Every victory seems rewarding, but nothing is easy, and any defeat is because you just didn’t fight as hard as you needed to, rather than being something that has you arguing with the console over how cheap the defeat was because of some stupid teleporting, max damaging, inst-healing boss attack.

As for healing, I’d love an action RPG that had area specific damage. Get too many attacks to your leg, and your limping around (making a mount that much more important) and attacks to the arms leave you without the ability to wield two handed weapons, and weaker attacks with your swords. Too much damage to the head leaves you with migraines, causing the screen to blur randomly. IT’s not perfect, but just something that really affected you until you could get to a base camp and have medical care. Rather than a potion on the road. Have potions that give a little recovery, which slowly fades away (like a pain killer) but to properly heal you need that all important base camp, all adds to the difficulty and without being too cheap.

Since there was no info on The Last Guardian or Persona 5 at the Sony presser, this was the highlight of the day for me. From the moment those “Prpject Beast” screenshots were leaked and speculation about PS4 exclusive “Demon’s Souls 2″ started flying around, I was at the edge of my seat waiting for more details at E3. I suspect that blood will be a very important part of the game both in terms of lore and gameplay. That drop at the beginning of the trailer cannot be there just for show.

GrytEcHoG 11 June, 2014 @ 12:05 pm   15

Thanks sony for bringing this new experience based on demons soul and I love the atmosphere in this game. Looking forward to play this game!

Probably the best announce at Sony’s E3.
The guys at NeoGaf say the demo and was amazing. Fix the frame-rate and I’m Sold at March.
